Sarah’s POV

When we arrived at the police station, I stayed behind in Reagan’s car. He had rushed inside since we had already planned our day together—mall, movies, lunch, maybe so fun activities afterward. Nothing extravagant, just the kind of simple, ordinary things that felt so special to now. Things couples do on their first dates. Things I’d always secretly wanted.

Reagan had left his phone charging on the dashboard, which I thought was fine—he wasn’t planning to stay long anyway. But then it started ringing, the screen lighting up with Violet. His mom. My heart jumped, but I answered it without hesitation.

"Hello?"

[Sarah?] Violet’s voice imdiately ca through, warm and familiar. She always recognized —she’d been like a second mother ever since I was paired with Nicholas years ago. Even now, she never failed to check in on . [Why are you answering Reagan’s phone? Is he alright?]

"Oh, yes, he’s fine," I quickly assured her. "He just stepped out for a bit. I stayed in the car. We’re actually on our way to see a movie. Do you want to get him for you?"

[Uhm, yes, please. It’s urgent. I’d be grateful. I’ll call again in ten minutes, thank you, dear.]

"Of course," I said softly, smiling despite myself. She always called dear. It ward in a way I hadn’t felt in so long.

The call ended, and I glanced at the phone in my hand. With a little sigh, I gathered my things, switched off the engine, and stepped out of the car.

Inside, the kind desk officer at the front desk assisted imdiately. She offered a small smile and escorted to a private room where Reagan was.

"You can go straight in if you want," she said kindly.

"Thank you," I replied, smiling back as she walked away.

I reached for the door, phone in hand, ready to give it to him with an excuse that it’s an urgent call from his mom. But before I could push it open, Nancy’s voice sliced through the air. Harsh. Bitter. Sarcastic.

I froze, my hand hovering at the handle, my smile fading as her angry words spilled into the hallway.

"And you believed her? That bitch is just using you so she can be near Nick again. Once you turn around, she’ll seduce him and ruin everything he has with Georgia!"

Her words made my chest tighten, but before I could even react, Reagan’s voice thundered back. I had never heard him so angry before—it was raw, fierce, and terrifying.

"Just like you did, right? You spiked Raymond’s drink, made him hallucinate just so you could ruin what he and Georgia had. You think I didn’t know? That ship wasn’t big, Nancy, and the mariti world is smaller than you think.

Be thankful I haven’t told Raymond yet, or he would kill you himself! What he feels for Georgia is real—and you couldn’t stand it. You ruined their relationship because you don’t know how to have sothing like it. You’re selfish, bitter, and cruel. You play with n’s hearts like toys. You want everyone else to be miserable just because you are. You are such a slut, Nancy!"

I clutched my mouth with both hands. Hearing him so enraged shook to the core. Reagan had always been the calm one, steady and patient with , but here... his voice burned with fire I didn’t know he had. And all of it—it wasn’t just anger. It was him standing up for love. For .

"Fine! I’m a slut!" Nancy spat back. "But that doesn’t change the fact that Sarah doesn’t love you. She loves Nick, and you know it! And you’re just okay with that?"

My heart dropped to my stomach.

But Reagan didn’t falter. His voice ca firm, steady, and heartbreakingly tender.

"Yes. I’m okay with that. I’ll do everything I can to help her forget Nick. Because in ti, she’ll learn to love too."

Tears welled in my eyes. I pressed harder against the doorfra, afraid my knees would give out. How could he say sothing so selfless, so full of quiet hope, when I hadn’t even realized just how deeply he already felt?

Nancy’s laugh rang out, bitter and mocking. "I didn’t know Mr. Reagan Knight was this naive. You’re so pathetically naive, Reagan. You think you can change her heart? I can’t wait to see that."

"You will see it," Reagan shot back, voice steady and resolute. "I’ll even send you an invitation to our wedding. But you won’t make it—you’ll be rotting in prison. Goodbye, Nancy."

Silence should have followed. But instead, Nancy’s laughter grew louder, echoing through the thin walls like a warning.

I stepped back from the door, my chest heaving. My whole body trembled, but not just from shock—my heart had never felt so full and fragile all at once. He believed in . He believed in us. Even when I didn’t know what to believe myself.

"I will not rot in jail," she spat. "You and Raymond will help get out of here—because if you don’t, the three of us will go down together. Have you forgotten David Lewis? Georgia’s brother—the one who was murdered?

I know what you and Raymond did. This isn’t a threat. I have proof. I was there when you two were panicking—I recorded you confessing to each other what you did. Leave here, and I’ll drag you both down with . You think Sarah will still marry you once she finds out you had a hand in Nick’s disgrace? She won’t—she’ll never forgive you—"

The words cut off as tal screeched against concrete. A cold silence, then Reagan’s voice, raw and fierce, broke through.

"You will not do that!" he roared.

"She’s using you, Reagan! Wake up!" Nancy shot back, venom in every syllable.

But Reagan didn’t waver. "No. She promised to marry . Our parents approve. Stop slandering Sarah— you don’t know anything."

Nancy laughed, cruel and short. "You’re such a fool. She’s only playing you so her parents will stop pressuring her. She would probably crawl on Nick’s bed and suck his dick so good to make him sleep with her again."

Reagan’s reply was a low, dangerous line. "Careful with that filthy mouth of yours. Keep saying things like that, and other charges from and Sarah will follow. I’m not helping you. That’s final."

"You’ll help, Reagan, or we all burn," Nancy hissed. "Don’t believe now—you’ll see. By tonight, the sa officers who let you in here will be the ones arresting you and Raymond."
