A piercing screech of brakes tore through the sky as Old Sullivan collapsed in front of a white Ferrari. In that mont, Ruby Sullivan felt as though ti suddenly ca to a halt, as if an invisible machine had sucked away the sound around her. This feeling was sowhat akin to the tis she had struggled on the edge of life and death, only her mind was clearer and her body could still move.
She ran frantically towards him, her eyes only on her father lying on the ground.
The next second, she was suddenly yanked by a trendous force, her body swaying where she stood, crashing into soone due to inertia and finally coming to a halt.
"Wenny!"
Ruby Sullivan was dazed for a mont, turning her head to see who had pulled her, only then did she hear the sound.
Not far away, a driver stuck his head out of a car window and cursed viciously, "If you want to die, find a better car to do it with!" Then he sped away with a step on the gas pedal, leaving a trail of dust.
"Dad!" Ruby didn’t even catch what the man was saying, snapping out of her daze only to rember sothing even more important.
"Calm down for a mont, President Sullivan Sr. should be alright." Howard had been scared to death just now. A mont ago, it was as if he watched Ruby almost crash into the car. Had he been a mont later, even if the driver slamd on the brakes, it would have likely resulted in a collision. It was a close call.
Across the road, the owner of the Ferrari had already helped Brandon Sullivan up and seed to be explaining sothing, pointing in their direction.
Seeing Ruby Sullivan’s soulless appearance, Howard couldn’t let go and continued holding on to her as they cautiously crossed the road.
Looking at her father, who seed to have beco a bit hunched over at so point, Ruby suddenly felt tears welling in her eyes, "How are you? Does it hurt anywhere?"
"I’m fine, I’m fine." Brandon Sullivan laughed warmly, like one of those old n who bask in the sun and chat idly at the village entrance, lacking sharpness and appearing sowhat slow, "It’s my fault, I forgot to look for cars when crossing the street."
Howard was apologizing to the Ferrari’s owner, as the old man had dashed out first. Thankfully there was no rear-end collision with the Ferrari just now, otherwise, even if his car stopped in ti due to its performance, there was a great chance of a secondary accident.
Although the car owner was a young guy, he was well-mannered, "Here is my business card. If the old man needs to go to the hospital, you can contact . Please, don’t let him go out alone next ti."
Having said that, the young man drove off.
Howard handed the business card to Ruby Sullivan, who made a point of rembering the man’s na, thinking she should rember his kindness if they ever t again in the future.
After thoroughly checking Old Sullivan to ensure he was okay, Ruby first sent a ssage to Rhonda Sullivan, informing her that he was found, and then to Chloe’s assistant, Lara, "Is it over?"
"Almost, Chloe still wants to take the stage and bow with you, Wenny. Can you co over now?"
Ruby glanced at Brandon Sullivan and sighed, "Give five minutes." She hung up the phone, insinuated Howard to take Brandon Sullivan to rcy Hospital for a check-up, and then made her way there casually.
Seeing his daughter about to leave, Brandon urgently grabbed her hand, furrowed his brows, and stamred for a while before finally organizing his thoughts, "I’m fine, no need for the hospital. I just missed you, wanted to see you, you go ahead and work, I... I can take a cab ho."
"You know I’m busy, why co and make a fuss?" Ruby didn’t know where her anger ca from, but she burst out with a shout, and then froze, tears following in its wake.
Brandon watched his daughter with cloudy old eyes, lips twitching with a slight tremor, saying, "Don’t cry, you’ll look bad with a tear-streaked face..." He was a bit bewildered, knowing everything clearly in his heart but unable to articulate it, feeling a bit anxious and stomping his feet slightly.
Howard hurried to diate, "Boss, you go to the show first, I’ll take care of President Sullivan Sr."
"Thank you." Ruby wiped her nose, saw the green light on, and quickly paced across the zebra crossing.
Watching Ruby’s retreating figure, Brandon let out a long sigh, his voice choked as he said, "My daughter has always been strong. Her mother passed away early, and I’ve always felt guilty inside, always wanting to give her the best, only to... to raise her into a little chubby girl. I know she’s always been self-conscious about it, but what’s there to be self-conscious about? My daughter is naturally beautiful, even as a chubby girl, she was a beauty, just like her mother."
As Brandon spoke, tears began to fall, as though he saw his wife who had left early.
Seeing him like this, Howard couldn’t help but think of his own parents back ho.
He had been away for years, and being Ethan Sterling’s personal assistant, he was on call 24/7 no matter the day, spending very little ti with his parents each year.
He had always wanted to bring them to Ariston, but the two elders feared disturbing the couple’s life and refused to co, reluctant to bother them, not even ntioning minor ailnts.
Last year, his mother had her gallbladder removed, and he only found out during New Year’s.
"President Sullivan Sr., would you like to take a look inside the show? Ruby will be going on stage to give a thank-you speech."
Hearing this, Brandon’s eyes imdiately lit up with eager excitent, yet he wavered, "I... won’t cause any trouble, will I?"
"No trouble at all, I’ll be with you." Howard smiled as he held Brandon’s arm, leading him toward the show venue across the street.
anwhile, Ruby arrived breathlessly backstage at the show. Several people imdiately surrounded her, helping her change coats, apply makeup, and do her hair. In less than five minutes, she was all tidied up.
Chloe ca over and hooked her arm, "I’m a bit nervous."
Despite the chaos in her heart, Ruby felt strangely calm upon hearing this, "It’s okay, I’m here."
Over the years, she and Chloe were always like this, one getting frantic while the other had to bear the weight, always having soone to hold steady.
"Chloe, Wenny, ready to go on stage!"
The staff signaled them, and the two exchanged a smile, holding hands as they walked onto the runway, followed by a lineup of tall, well-shaped models, making them appear particularly petite.
They all walked to the front of the stage and finally settled in place, posing simply as the confetti cannons went off, marking the successful end of the show. Everyone held hands and stood at the edge of the runway, bowing to the audience in gratitude.
The young designers of tamorphosis were in the audience, clapping like seals, full of excitent.
The models gradually retreated backstage, and the staff handed Chloe a microphone for the final thank-you speech.
Chloe took a deep breath, glanced at Ruby beside her, and said, "Thank you to every guest who ca today. Though I’ve participated in many big shows, I’ve never held my own solo event. This ti, it fulfilled my dream."
"And I must thank the person standing next to . Wenny, if not for her encouragent, I might never have had the courage to establish tamorphosis. Finally, I hope all fashion magazines continue to follow our developnts, and may big buyers not miss us, feel free to place orders! Furthermore, here’s a sneak peek, the joint physical store of tamorphosis and Nirvana is about to open, and we hope everyone cos to support us then!"
Chloe finished and handed the microphone to Ruby, her previously tense heart finally relaxing, knowing that the upcoming Q&A session had been well-prepared and would not pose any difficult questions.
