"Mom!" Honey was so excited to see her mom on the stairs that she ran over to her.
Ruby Sullivan feared she might accidentally fall at this mont, so she shouted "Slow down, slow down" while quickening her pace down the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs, she imdiately hugged her rushing daughter and planted a big kiss on her cheek. "Oh, Honey’s face slls so good, let mommy sll the other side."
Honey giggled and imdiately offered her other cheek to her mother, "Does this side sll good?"
"Mm, this side slls really good too." Ruby exaggeratedly took a deep breath and then gave a big kiss on the other cheek as well.
"Mom, I’ve missed you so much these past few days." She hugged her mom’s neck, her eyes almost tearing up.
This was probably the longest ti Honey hadn’t seen Ruby Sullivan. Soday in the future, Honey would spend even less ti with her mom, but she might not miss her this much again, so Ruby cherished Honey’s current longing.
"Mom misses you too." She led Honey to sit on the sofa, "It’s my fault. I’ve taken on too much work and haven’t been able to take good care of you."
Honey squeezed her mom’s fingers and muttered, "I wanted Vivian to take my brother and to your office yesterday because I really missed you. But dad wouldn’t let us and even scolded ." She pouted, "He said looking for you during lunch would make you stay late after work and said I was being disobedient."
She lowered her head, growing more aggrieved as she spoke, clearly with a hint of tattling.
Ruby Sullivan looked at her, feeling both heartache and amusent; her Honey had learned to tattle.
Before, Honey only had an assistant around her and couldn’t experience so many emotions, so she seed more naive than children her age.
"Then why didn’t you call mommy?"
"Vivian said she tried to find you at the office before, and you were really busy. Interrupting you would delay you for a long ti, and calling dad would be the sa. Dad’s more available."
In fact, Ethan Sterling wasn’t actually available when he took the call; he was in the conference room fiercely arguing with so unruly board mbers. However, he didn’t dare hang up on his daughter’s call—certainly not since the calls from her mom had already beco calls from their daughter.
However, he wasn’t harsh with Honey because he was in a bad mood during the eting and took it out on her; he simply felt sorry for his ex-wife, who had been working so hard lately, and didn’t want to distract her. He preferred if Ruby Sullivan could sleep a few more minutes.
Her once fine face now had bags under her eyes because of sleep deprivation.
After Honey ntioned all this, she furrowed her little brows into two little bags. "Since dad’s so free, why doesn’t he help mom with work? I’ll have a word with him later; he’s really being a bad dad."
Ruby Sullivan watched her daughter criticize her dad and just realized Honey wasn’t always trying to ingratiate herself with him; she actually threw a tantrum.
Unable to resist, she ruffled her hair playfully, "Yes, Honey, you must help mom criticize dad more."
Honey leaned against her mom and spoke earnestly, "Mom, don’t always bla dad. I know divorce wasn’t easy for either of you, and dad explained it to last night. I also feel I was wrong. With you being so busy, I shouldn’t take up your ti. So, let’s play together once you’re not busy."
Finishing her words, she showed a silly smile again.
Ruby Sullivan was a bit caught off guard—what was up with her daughter’s old-fashioned deanor earlier? Could growing up really be contagious? She didn’t want her daughter to grow up so fast!
Ruby Sullivan beca a bit tense, "Honey, who told you about how tough divorce is?"
Honey blinked her big eyes, not understanding why her mom would ask. She felt she hadn’t gotten it wrong, and she had indeed said the sa to dad yesterday, and he hadn’t corrected her.
"Nina, a new friend I made at kindergarten. Her parents are officially divorced, and she said she forgave them, saying adults have it really hard."
Ruby Sullivan felt both amused and exasperated upon hearing this—what on earth were kids talking about these days?
Just then, Mama Bennett called them for breakfast, and Ethan Sterling also ca down from upstairs.
Ruby Sullivan rembered she hadn’t resolved the conflict between father and daughter yet. She wanted to say sothing when she saw her daughter already happily calling "Dad" and walking over to Ethan Sterling.
"Good girl." Ethan Sterling picked up the little sweetheart and kissed her on the cheek as they walked to the dining table together.
Ruby Sullivan was a bit bewildered.
She held back her curiosity and waited until getting in the car to ask Ethan Sterling about him and their daughter.
"What’s up with and our daughter?" Ethan Sterling donned a seemingly clueless face.
Ruby Sullivan began doubting her mory—was it really failing to the point she misrembered even the events of last night?
Ethan Sterling held back a laugh and responded seriously, "Oh, I rember. Yesterday morning, our daughter was angry at , but after I got ho last night and told her a few stories, we reconciled. Blood is thicker than water, you know, we can’t really stay mad at each other overnight."
"Hey!" Ruby Sullivan squinted her eyes, looking a bit miffed at his smug expression.
Ethan Sterling had to confess, "I just thought you were too exhausted yesterday and tried to help you dry your hair, but you assud I had ulterior motives, so... I casually told a little lie, sorry."
Ruby Sullivan, seeing his sincere look, felt her face heat up, suddenly a bit shy. She had to turn her head, mumbling, "I don’t want to argue with you."
After the busy week passed, Ruby Sullivan’s team managed to deliver Daydream’s prototype to the factory on ti.
That evening, Ethan Sterling hosted a dinner at a Spanish restaurant serving seafood and offered everyone an extra day off on Monday as well.
After cheers erupted, Claire reminded, "Boss, don’t forget the benefits you promised us."
Ruby Sullivan suddenly rembered she hadn’t brought this up with Ethan Sterling yet. She explained it to him on the spot, sowhat worried he might cause her embarrassnt because she had never seen Ethan Sterling host a party, assuming he found it botherso.
Actually, ever since their grandma passed away, The Sterling Family hadn’t hosted another party; firstly, because Vivian didn’t like socializing, and secondly, it was like an ugly scar from the past for Ethan Sterling.
On that day, Ethan Sterling’s marriage beca a laughingstock for everyone, though no one dared show it in front of him due to The Sterling Group’s status.
So when Ethan Sterling listened, his face beca slightly stiff.
"If you’re too busy, forget it. I can ask Naomi Sinclair," Ruby Sullivan, seeing his expression, smiled and gave herself a way out.
But that was genuinely what she thought, after all, she only had two people she could turn to, and Naomi Sinclair wouldn’t mind the hassle, though she might bring up one or two odd conditions.
The ladies in the lab exchanged glances after hearing this, feeling awkward for a mont.
