She picked up the cloth again, continuing her work. We fell into a comfortable silence as she cleaned my wounds, and I let the small trickle of energy flow between us. My bones were starting to knit – slowly, painfully, but healing.
After what felt like an eternity, she stepped back.
"Okay. You’re not going to die from blood loss, at least. Now what about the wings?"
I focused inward, gathering what little strength I had. The wings fought – damaged flesh never wanted to go back – but eventually, they began to retract. Feathers dissolved into light, the appendages shrinking back into my shoulder blades until only scars remained.
lissa’s eyes were huge. "That’s... that’s impossible."
"You’re looking at a fallen angel and that’s the part you find impossible?"
"Fair point." She shook her head as if to clear it. "Okay. So. We have about two and a half hours before you die."
"Give or take."
"And you need... we need to..."
"Yes."
She took a deep breath, then another. Her hands twisted together – nervous energy seeking outlet.
"I’m going to take a shower," she announced suddenly. "You should too, but..." She glanced at my state.
"I can manage. Slowly."
"Right. Okay. There are towels under the sink. I’ll... I’ll be in my bedroom. When you’re ready."
[Target Nervousness: High]
[But determination: Higher]
She turned to leave, then paused at the door.
"Cain?"
"Yes?"
"Your promise. That I won’t regret this."
I t her eyes, letting her see the truth in mine. "You won’t. I swear it on what’s left of my grace."
She nodded once, then disappeared.
I sat there in her bathroom, listening to the sounds of her moving around the apartnt. A door closing. Water running in another room – her shower.
[Ti Remaining: 2 hours, 38 minutes]
[Quest Update: Target is preparing herself]
[Final Corruption Phase: Imminent]
[Reward: Energy restoration, Fragnt recovery, Survival]
[Recomndation: Clean yourself, recover what strength you can]
[The real test begins soon]
I stood carefully, every movent still agony but manageable now. Stripped off my ruined clothes – the white robes that had marked as Heaven’s executioner, now torn and blood-stained. Turned on her shower.
The hot water was a revelation. Steam filled the small space as I stood under the spray, watching pink-tinted water swirl down the drain. My reflection in the foggy mirror showed a ss – bruised, cut, but healing.
My face was still intact at least. Symtrical features that had been designed for beauty, even if I’d never cared much about it.
Angels were created beautiful. It was simply what we were.
I could hear lissa’s shower through the wall. Could picture her in there, probably overthinking everything, scrubbing her skin raw with nervous energy.
She had no idea what she was in for.
I smiled at my reflection.
By the ti I stepped out – dried off, slightly more presentable – my strength had improved considerably. The minor energy transfer from her touches had done more than I’d expected.
[Current Power Level: 1.2%]
[Enough to move without screaming]
That ant enough to perform.
Enough to make her scream instead.
I wrapped a towel around my waist and left the bathroom. Her apartnt was dark now – she’d turned off all the lights except one coming from under her bedroom door.
An invitation. A point of no return.
[Ti Remaining: 2 hours, 11 minutes]
I walked to her door and knocked gently.
"Co in," her voice called, trying for steady and missing.
I opened the door.
lissa sat on her bed, wearing a silk robe – dark blue, tied loosely at her waist. Her hair was damp from her shower, falling in waves around her shoulders. She’d put on makeup – subtle, but there. Trying to feel in control of a situation that was anything but.
The bedroom was small but tidy. Soft lighting from a lamp on the nightstand. Clean sheets that slled like detergent and her.
She looked up at , and her breath caught.
I was still a ss – bruises covering most of my torso, cuts across my arms and face. But I was also standing straight now, no longer hunched with pain. And the way she looked at ...
[Target Arousal: Spiking]
[Target Assessnt: "He’s beautiful"]
[Even broken, your divine nature calls to her]
"Hi," she said, then laughed nervously. "God, this is weird."
"We really don’t have to – "
"Don’t. We’re doing this. I just... give a second." She stood, pacing. "I’ve had a one-night stand before. I’m not a prude or anything. But this is... different."
"Because I’m an angel."
"Because you’ll die if I don’t." She whirled to face . "That’s a lot of pressure, you know?"
I moved closer – slowly, giving her ti to adjust. "Then don’t think of it as saving my life. Think of it as... a transaction. You give what I need, I give you sothing in return."
"What could you possibly give ?"
I reached out, tucking a strand of damp hair behind her ear. She shivered at the contact.
"Pleasure," I said simply. "The kind no one ever could. I’ll make you feel like a goddess – because for tonight, that’s exactly what you’ll be."
[Target Arousal: 30%]
[Heart Rate: Extrely Elevated]
[Resistance: Crumbling]
"That’s..." she swallowed hard. "That’s a bold claim."
"I don’t make claims I can’t back up."
We stood there, inches apart, the air between us thick with tension and unspoken promises.
[Ti Remaining: 2 hours, 8 minutes]
[Everything is aligned]
[All that’s left is the final push]
"lissa," I said quietly, my voice dropping to sothing intimate, sothing that made her pupils dilate further. "You won’t regret it."
She looked up at – this mortal woman who’d picked up a broken angel and brought him ho, who’d agreed to sothing insane because she couldn’t watch soone die.
And she nodded.
"Okay," she whispered. "Show ."
