Grandpa Li lay quietly on the bed, not speaking for a long while. Only when he saw his granddaughter’s worried gaze did he force a smile and said, "Don’t worry, Grandpa is fine. At my age, I’ve seen it all. This is nothing."

Li Xianglu smiled and said, "Yes, Grandpa, try to be positive. I think the situation is going to get better. Look, Uncle Qin has already returned, and Grandpa An will be back soon too."

Mr. Li shook his head and said, "You don’t know, your Grandpa An is different. He was injured back then. He recuperated in the countryside for over a year before he rejoined the troops. It was because of this that he was isolated for an investigation by the organization. Soone accused your Grandpa An of being a traitor, and no matter when, ’traitor’ isn’t a label that’s easily removed."

Li Xianglu frowned and asked, "Didn’t Grandpa An explain it? Didn’t he find the villagers to prove his innocence?"

Grandpa Li hadn’t expected his granddaughter to be so astute. He sat up, leaning on the bedrail, and said, "It’s also your Grandpa An’s bad luck. The people sent by the organization didn’t find that family, so the matter couldn’t be clarified. That’s why even if your Grandpa An had made great contributions, it was all in vain. The eldest and the second son are both dead, now only your Uncle is left as the sole survivor."

Li Xianglu fell silent, then after a while, as if she had thought of sothing, she asked, "Doesn’t Uncle have a food supply then?"

Grandpa Li sighed and said, "He does, both your Uncle and the two children have it. It’s just that your little aunt doesn’t, as she is registered under a rural household."

Oh, no wonder we’re short on food at ho, but the little aunt doesn’t look like she’s from the countryside.

Seemingly noticing his granddaughter’s confusion, Grandpa Li explained, "Your little aunt was an adopted child of that family. She was a child that a military officer couldn’t take with him and was temporarily left at that farr’s house. Ten years passed without the officer returning, with no news if he was alive or dead, and later she married your Uncle and ca to Shanghai."

So that’s the story, no wonder she looks so gentle and elegant, and to have such a backstory.

Mr. Li seed to recall sothing, suddenly sat up, and started rummaging through his cotton jacket, pulling out the animal skin map from an inside pocket, and imdiately burst into laughter, "Oh, how could I forget about this treasure, let’s get it out, turn it into so cash, and send so to your Uncle An."

Mr. Li didn’t have much money left, and Li Xianglu had no salary. Their monthly inco wasn’t low, one hundred and eight yuan, and they didn’t spend much, so they had saved a tidy sum. But to give An Chenggang a lump sum of money, their savings wouldn’t suffice. It was better to sell so items.

Li Xianglu hadn’t expected her grandfather to bring out the treasure map this ti. She happily took it over and carefully examined it, hmm, the place marked is actually the location of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Mr. Li, seeing his granddaughter looking at the map, said, "We’ll discuss it when Qin Xi cos back this afternoon, tomorrow we’ll go and see if the place is convenient or not. Maybe soone else has already found the goods."

Li Xianglu shook her head, "No, Grandpa, these items are hidden in the sewer, who would bother going there?"

Mr. Li hadn’t examined the map closely and wasn’t very clear about the markings on it. After looking at it for a long ti, he didn’t understand it was indicating the sewage system.

Li Xianglu blinked, almost hating herself to death. How could she be so indiscreet? This was a treasure map, and it used traditional thods to mark the location of each spot. The manhole cover was indicated by a circle with an equals sign, sothing an ordinary person wouldn’t recognize at all.

Mr. Li didn’t dwell on how his granddaughter understood the map; hearing that the goods were still there made him very happy. His stomach suddenly growled, and he laughed a bit embarrassedly, "You haven’t eaten your fill either, have you?"

Li Xianglu smiled and nodded, calling over Qin Zhen from next door, who wanted to sleep a little longer, so the two of them went down and each ate a bowl of plain noodles.

Li Xianglu, however, made the excuse of going out for a walk, and after Mr. Li nagged her for a while, he finally let her leave.

This ti, Li Xianglu did not go to sell things but went to Huai Country to buy a piece of blue khaki cloth. She found a state-run tailor shop, spent five cents, and had soone sew her a large pocket. Then she filled it on the road with fifty kilograms of various grains, rice, millet, a large bag of peanuts, two won’s sweaters, one large cotton coat from Huai Country, and then took it all to the nearby Post Office. The address was written as per the one on the envelope Mr. Li had.

Yes, this was a shipnt to An Chenggang. Actually, Li Xianglu knew she couldn’t sympathize with everyone; there were so many suffering people in this era, mostly due to identity problems and other issues. But the children were not at fault.

Thinking of those innocent children, her heart ached with sorrow. These items, acquired from an uncertain source, couldn’t be sent over openly. After spending a high postage fee of five yuan, she successfully mailed them off.

Li Xianglu’s heart was imnsely relieved, feeling happier than if she had indulged in the most delicious food. Just thinking about the children’s expressions when they received these items made her want to laugh out loud.

It was just after four when she returned to the guesthouse. Qin Xi had not yet co back, and Qin Zhen was aimlessly wandering around bored. Seeing Li Xianglu’s arrival, he excitedly said, "Shall we go for a stroll?"

Li Xianglu shook her head, "It’s too late, maybe tomorrow. Grandpa said he’ll take us to Shanghai First Mall to shop the day after tomorrow, and we’ll also go to International Restaurant to eat."

Upon hearing this, Qin Zhen lit up like a lamp, joyfully bouncing around.

Li Xianglu shook her head and returned to her room, fetched a towel, and decided to take a bath. She had only quickly wiped herself down the previous day and had not showered. Now that she could take a full shower, she hurried to do so.

As soon as Li Xianglu finished her bath, she saw Qin Xi talking to Grandpa at the doorway, and when Qin Xi saw her, he frowned, went inside to get a dry towel, and placed it on her head, saying, "Why didn’t you dry off before coming out?"

Li Xianglu’s face turned slightly red, and she embarrassingly wrapped herself with the towel and returned to her own room.

Qin Xi didn’t feel there was anything wrong with his actions. Seeing her walking back towards the room, he shouted, "Make sure you’re dry before you co out again."

By the ti Li Xianglu ca out again it was already half-past five, and her hair was dry. She had sneakily taken out the hairdryer from the Storage Ring and dried it in secret. Luckily, it was a low-power one, quiet enough not to raise alarm.

When Qin Xi saw that she had returned, he reached out to touch her hair, satisfied that it was dry, and nodded approvingly, saying, "Let’s go, ti to eat."

For dinner, they ordered several dishes, with stead buns and crab at porridge as the staples. Li Xianglu didn’t eat the buns and only had a bowl of porridge, which was incredibly delicious.

When they got back, Qin Xi sent Qin Zhen to take a bath while he went to his room with the grandfather-granddaughter pair.

Mr. Li turned on the ceiling light and also a table lamp, then carefully handed over the map.

Qin Xi was taken aback the mont he saw it – this was a treasure map, and not just any, but one from twenty years ago in modern tis. If its hiding spot was still intact, it was likely still there, and he couldn’t help but curiously look at Mr. Li and Li Xianglu, wondering where the two had gotten this map from!
