Chapter 894: Chapter 79- Dietrich – Germany Part 3 (VOLU 5)

Dietrich

Shawn and I woke the next morning a little sore, but very pleased. We were also way more rested than I thought that we would be. And after another shower, or an actually completed one this ti, we got dressed for the day.

Breakfast was ready for us when we got downstairs, and we ate together in the dining room. It was just the two of us in such a large room, but we didn’t feel lonely or anything. We had the most important person in the world with us. Well, the most important person in our own little private world. When we went ho, that circle of people expanded to include others, but when alone it was just the two of us.

“OK, I think that we should just head out imdiately after eating.” Shawn wasn’t even looking at , he was looking at the crude map that we had made yesterday. “We need to destroy their protection spells and get into the mansion. For the sake of the people that you used to know, I hope that they aren’t involved in the case. However, for the sake of the case I hope that they are. We need a break in this thing more than I can even explain.” I understood what he ant. He didn’t want to be hurt if the descendants of my old friend were part of this case, but I agreed with him that if they were we would finally have a break that we never had before. And we needed to end this as soon as we could.

“I hope that we find sothing that points us in the right direction.” I didn’t specify beyond that. I was trying to distance myself from the emotions that I used to have for my forr friend. I needed to prepare myself for the worst case scenario.

.....

“Are we good to go as soon as we are done eating?” He turned away from the map then and looked at .

“Yes. I think that we will be. Shall I bring so help with us?” I was looking around the room and thinking about the various staff mbers that I had here.

“I think we will be fine to start. However, have them on alert. If they get a ssage from one of us, they need to be ready to go in an instant.”

“My love, you are so prepared for this day. I am very proud of you.” I didn’t an to make it sound like he couldn’t strategize at all. I just wanted him to know that I knew he put a lot of thought and effort into this, and that I appreciated it.

“I have planned ahead, that is all. When you overthink things like I do, it happens a lot. I have thought about almost every single way that this trip can succeed and how it can fail. I will, hopefully, be prepared for everything.” He was smiling, but I could still see so of the unease in his eyes. It wasn’t as much as it was yesterday, but it was still there. At least I was able to help him a little bit with how he was feeling.

“Then I think we will be as prepared as possible. You are a very intelligent man, Shawn. And I know that you will not let us walk into a trap.” I thought about the powers that we both had, the ones that Trinity had given us and the ones that we gained over ti. There weren’t many vampires that could hold their own against the two of us, and even fewer humans.

Shawn and I lapsed into silence after that short conversation. We finished our breakfast in silence. Shawn looking at the map and looking at Shawn. He was so handso when he concentrated like this. He was always handso really, but more so like this. However, breakfast didn’t last long, and soon it was ti for us to go.

“A kiss for good luck?” I asked Shawn as we stepped out of the castle and into the fresh air. The sound of the birds, the bugs, and the other animals that were hiding out there were all making a lovely music with the wind in the trees.

“Ha ha ha. You can’t just have a kiss. With you it’s always more.” Shawn laughed at and I just couldn’t help but laugh with him.

“I am not that bad. I can have just a kiss. You should rember that, Geliebte. If I wasn’t content with just a kiss, I would have pounced on you that first night that we t. I have so semblance of self-control. You need to admit that, my love.”

“Fine, I admit that you have so control. But it isn’t that much. Anyway, yes, you can have a kiss for good luck.” He leaned into and kissed on the lips. It was quick and left wanting more, but I didn’t say anything. If I did, he would tell that my control was even less than he thought that it was. I would be content, for now.

Now that I had had my kiss, I took Shawn’s hand and guided him down the steps and into the woods. We were taking the sa path that we were on the day before. The only difference was that we were here alone instead of with a large group. Just the two of us were going to storm Alaric’s mansion. It was just the two of us against the world. Or that was how it seed to at the mont.

We found the first tree in no ti at all. Shadow walking in the trees was really easy to do. There were shadows all over the place. And traveling together was also easy, since we have been doing it for years and years.

Next, we went to the tree that was directly in front of the first one. We wanted to finish in front of the mansion so that we didn’t need to circle back around once the shields were down. Turning left, after destroying the second tree, we moved onto the third one and finally the last.

I was watching the clearing as Shawn finally destroyed the last tree. Like the others, he just punched in the middle of the runic mark and the tree exploded into a million splinters behind where it used to be. The ground near these trees was littered in a ss of large and small chunks of wood, but we weren’t going to clean it up. The animals in the woods around us could use the fragnts of the trees for building their hos. There were going to be a lot of really big bird’s nests, beaver dams, and other habitats that ca from this. At least in so way, we were able to help soone and the environnt with what we had just done.

Now, the clearing that I was watching, where the house should have been, completely changed when the last tree was destroyed. I saw the house, four stories tall and larger than almost all that existed that long ago. At least in this remote part of the country. It was still beautiful though, like it was new. I had a feeling that whoever lived there now was keeping it with runes like they were hiding it with them.

There were also more trees that appeared. And a winding drive that ca from the main road in the distance. The scenery around the house might have changed, but the house was the sa and I could tell that. The flood of nostalgia that I felt when seeing it told that there wasn’t a single roofing tile that had changed about this place.

“This is it. This is Alaric’s ho. This place is almost as familiar to as my own castle. I spent so much ti here with my comrades at the ti. I cannot believe that it is still this nice after so long.” I took a step toward the house in shock. “I had servants and upkeep on my castle as I modernized it, but this place looks like it hasn’t seen the passing of a single day.”

“Don’t go on your own.” Shawn snapped at and grabbed my arm. “We need to go in there together. I don’t care if your forr friend lived here. He died hundreds of years ago. This isn’t his ho anymore. It isn’t the place that you used to spend so much ti. This place is different and the people in there are not the ones that you knew.” Shawn was reminding that I needed to focus and that I was here to work. This was not a trip to an old friend’s house. I can’t believe that I let myself get carried away. I can’t believe that I almost ssed up that badly.

“I am sorry, Shawn, I cannot believe that I made such a mistake. I can only bla it on the fondness of old mories and the good tis that I and my many friends shared at that ti. I have you to thank for keeping grounded like this. Without you, Geliebte, I would be lost.”

“Yeah, yeah.” He acted embarrassed, and I could see a slight twinge of pink in his ears as he looked away from . “At least you know where you ssed up. Now co on, let’s go. We need to see what is in there, together this ti.” He took my hand instead of my arm now, and with that, he started to pull toward the house. He was determined, that was more than obvious. Of what though, I didn’t know.
