The person in the bedding was sleeping as if very deeply, yet he was not at all peaceful, occasionally having to move, either waving an arm or kicking a leg, and occasionally mumbling a word or two, a sight quite comical to see—so unlike his usual composed self, as if he had taken on a childlike air.

"You really have so nerve, daring to go out for drinks, and getting utterly plastered..." she moved closer, whispered, and poked him in the face. Seeing him wave his hand as if swatting at a mosquito, she quickly dodged to the side, chuckled, then couldn’t help but sigh.

Really... no job is easy, how much resolution must a person who is usually so self-disciplined muster to let himself get into such a state?

She had thought that him managing things at the Lianshun Escort Agency would be a bit easier and safer than traveling outside, but now it seed not necessarily so. Mingling with people was equally a lethal affair for him!

She sat by his side for a while, rested enough, then pulled over a table and dumped the ingredients she had brought onto it, getting busy.

...

In fact, ng Yuhuai hadn’t slept for long. Feeling his mouth dry and flustered, half in a haze he thought of looking for water to drink, but suddenly he slled a strong aroma and imdiately woke up.

It took him quite a while to figure out that he was probably not at ho. He slightly lifted his head and looked around, only to see a small stove under the window with a small fire, and a red pottery jar sat atop it, bubbling with a fragrance wafting from it.

The room was very quiet, the faint sound of another person’s breathing beside him. He turned his head and saw Hua Xiaomai leaning against a pile of quilts, nodding off.

ng knew imdiately that he had probably caused trouble for his wife today.

There was a dull ache in his head, as if pulled by a thread, causing severe pain with every slight movent. He took a deep breath, the aroma hit his nostrils, and his stomach imdiately started grumbling.

Thinking back on it now, the reason he got so drunk today was probably because he hadn’t eaten anything at all, just been filled with alcohol. Now, slling this aroma made it even more unbearable. Just as he was about to get up, Hua Xiaomai woke up.

"Don’t move, you drunkard!" she glared at him irritably, "What, want so water?"

Knowing she must be sowhat upset, and feeling guilty himself, ng Yuhuai smiled ingratiatingly, "What did you cook? It slls so good—but it’s too risky for you to cook and doze off at the sa ti. What if you set the house on fire?"

"You still have the cheek to talk!" Hua Xiaomai glared at him, "I’m dead tired, who would want to sleep on the floor here if not for you? You’re big and tall, can’t lift or move you, other than staying here with you, what other choice do I have?"

She then helped him sit up: "I figured you must have drunk on an empty stomach. Eat sothing quickly, or else how could you sleep?"

After speaking, she went over to the stove, extinguished the fire, and ladled out a bowl for him.

It was just the fish soup for sobering up, yet she had simred it to a milky-white color, the broth was rich, the fish had completely fallen apart, and when poured into a bowl, topped with chopped green onions, pepper, and chili powder, with a couple drops of aromatic vinegar added, one sip and the thick soup mixed with flaky fish at was fragrant, hot, sour, and spicy, reviving the senses.

ng Yuhuai drank half a bowl and then set it down, took her hand, and murmured, "I’m sorry, I today..."

"You don’t need to apologize to , I can’t expect you to make this the last ti. If it were sothing you could have avoided, why would you have drunk so much?" Hua Xiaomai shook her head, "Just rember, the next ti you’re in this situation, eat sothing, wouldn’t you feel better?"

Seeing him obediently nodding in agreent, she continued, "Also, there’s a place for you to stay at the Escort Agency, next ti you get drunk, just don’t bother staggering back to the village. You’ve already given Li Yingchun and the others enough trouble today, not to ntion worrying Mother as well, can you live with that?"

ng Yuhuai didn’t imdiately respond, and after a mont, he said, "... I was afraid of scaring you if I stayed in the city without letting you know beforehand."

"I knew it." Hua Xiaomai frowned at him, then reached out to touch his forehead, "Do you feel unwell anywhere else?"

Before she could finish speaking, he wrapped his arms around her waist, his face against her stomach.

"With my wife here, I feel comfortable everywhere," his voice held a trace of a smile as he whispered.

"Hmm, drunk and still spouting sweet nothings!" Hua Xiaomai couldn’t help but laugh, looking down at him, "I say... all of the Escort Agency’s responsibilities falling on you, if you find it tough, find so people to share the load. You see how I have lots of helpers now at our Daoxiang Garden, right? All n like to drink, next ti you have such a gathering, bring a couple of heavy drinkers with you, they can at least block a few toasts for you!"

"It wouldn’t help." ng Yuhuai said ruefully, "They want to make drink; bringing more people would be useless, I..."

He suddenly stopped speaking because he felt like his face had just been slapped.

Hua Xiaomai clearly felt it too, and was equally startled, her eyes widening as she looked down at her stomach.

If both felt the sa astonishnt, then it couldn’t be mistaken—so, the little thing inside her stomach had just moved for the first ti?

It was her first pregnancy, how could she know that nocturnal fetal movents were normal? She imdiately felt a bit foolish, staring blankly into ng Yuhuai’s eyes.

"He... kicked ..." ng stamred, taking a while to spit out those three words, "He actually kicked ?!" (To be continued. If you like this work, welco to Qidian (qidian) to cast your recomndation ticket and monthly ticket. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please read on m.qidian.)
