Hua Xiaomai slightly tilted her head; from this angle, she could just see the slightly damp hair at his temples and the fine beads of sweat on the back of his neck.

"Exactly, we have a bullock cart!" ng Yuhuai smacked his forehead, "Why didn’t you remind ?"
"...I forgot too." Hua Xiaomai chuckled and stuck out her tongue.
"You weren’t much better than ," ng Yuhuai said with a smile, then took her hand into his and whispered, "Doctor Xing said the first pregnancy is especially hard. For now, just rest assuredly, and leave the rest to ..."
"Do you need to tell that?" Hua Xiaomai cut him off, half-joking, half-serious, "Don’t worry, the little restaurant is temporarily closed, what do I have to busy myself with? Starting today, I’m going to rely on you for everything. I absolutely won’t lift a finger myself as long as you can handle it for – unless you actually get annoyed by , huh?"
"You can try," ng Yuhuai said with a smile, threateningly glancing at her.
The courtyard was blazing with sunlight, but inside the house it was sowhat cooler. The couple sat at the table talking intermittently when they suddenly heard the loud voice of ng’s mother outside.
"Isn’t that so? They just got back from the County and are probably resting inside now. You all co into the living room too, this sun could literally fry soone!"
Hua Xiaomai was in the middle of saying sothing, but at that voice, she paused and exchanged a glance with ng Yuhuai. The couple stood up in unison, opened the door, and stepped out only to see Mrs. ng leading Mrs. Feng and her two daughters-in-law towards them.
"Oh, little sister Xiaomai!" Perhaps noticing the movent behind her, Mrs. Feng’s eldest daughter-in-law turned around, quickly stepped forward, and grasped her hand with a beaming smile, "ng’s mother told us you’re expecting, so we ca to check on you. They said... these past few days you’ve been feeling unwell? Don’t worry, everyone gets through it. If there’s anything you don’t understand, just ask us."
The second daughter-in-law also smiled, nodding repeatedly, "Just yesterday morning at the grain market I saw you still lively and quarreling with Old Master Liu, but who knew you were already carrying a little one. Starting today, you really should avoid arguing with people!"
As Hua Xiaomai stepped out, ng’s mother quickly headed towards her, gently pulled her aside, and turned to Mrs. Feng, "Look at her, she doesn’t look like she’s put on even a couple of pounds!
