Chapter 30: Exhausted
"Greetings again. I am Tomoe Yamaguchi." Lady Tomoe showed
a graceful bow. "I will be your teacher starting from today." She smiled, which made
smile. "Please, do introduce yourself." Her smile looks scary, but I know she won’t hurt . I think?
"My na is Noelle Alcantara." I said, even though I had already told her my na before.
"Do you have any background on how the yakuza works? Do you know the roles of the boss’s wife?" Does the boss’s wife really have lots of roles in the group? "The boss’s wife’s role is to support the boss, to help ease his pain, and to beco his sanctuary." What? I don’t understand. That sounded like it ca out of a drama.
Lady Tomoe chuckled, which made
flustered. Is she laughing at ? "I know the lady has no idea what I am talking about, but you shall know it from now on." She said as she got back her composure after laughing at . "Since the boss’s wife also must attend etings and parties, that includes tea parties, the lady must learn how to brew tea on her own and serve it with elegance."
My mommy knows how to brew and serve tea, but I never knew I would learn it too. Wait, why would I learn to brew tea? I thought the one who holds the tea parties should be doing it. "U-Uhm, we’re starting now?"
"Yes, is there a problem?" The tone of her voice and her smile makes
sit straight. Is it just , or does it feel like she hates ? "If the lady wants to postpone the wedding more than this, then we can delay learning this." She said. It feels like she’s saying the opposite, making
uncomfortable.
"I-I’ll learn it today." It feels like she’ll get angry if I don’t.
Tomoe smiled. "Okay, let’s do it."
She showed
the basics of doing it, and that’s it. "It’s your turn, young lady." Lady Tomoe said with that sa fake-looking smile. I don’t know if I can do it correctly on the first try, but there’s no way I’ll know if I don’t try. "That’s not how you do it. Do it again." The mont I tried copying what lady Tomoe did, she told
that, which made
stop.
’W-What did I do wrong? I only placed my hand on the handle.’
"Again."
"Do it again."
"Please, do it properly."
No matter how much I try to do what lady Tomoe wants
to do, she’s not satisfied with anything. I’ve been trying to copy how my mom and Rika do it, but everything appears wrong in lady Tomoe’s eyes.
’Is she bullying , or am I really doing it wrong?’ I shook my head to remove that thought out of my head. I heard lady Tomoe sigh. "That’s enough for today. It’s ti for the lady’s dinner, and you’ll have your study session with the young master right after."
’I don’t have ti to rest?!’
"L-Lady Tomoe, what did I—"
"Just call
Tomoe after class." She said as she bowed slightly and went out of the room. Her companions followed her, but they gave
a death glare before leaving. W-What? Even Rika, who’s staying inside, noticed it, and she looked at
with a worried expression on her face.
"You saw that too, right?"
Rika nodded. "Yes, do lady Tomoe’s attendants hate the young miss?" She muttered, and I also thought the sa. Do they think I’m getting in the way of their lady? It’s because I’m the one who’s getting married to Night? "Shall I help the lady prepare for her study session with the young master after dinner?"
I shook my head. "I won’t be attending the study session, and I’ll be eating in my room."
Even though worried, Rika followed my instructions as I walked back to my room. This day is tiring. What more if I start attending club activities? I’ll be tired physically and ntally. Just thinking about it makes
lose my energy.
"So you’re really just passing
by?" My forehead creased when I heard Night’s voice behind my back. I didn’t notice that I had passed him by; it must be because I was exhausted. "You’re not going to greet ?"
"What do you want?" Why is he picking a fight with ? "Good day, young master. Is that enough?" I rolled my eyes as I turned my back and walked away. He’s acting as if he cares about
even though he doesn’t.
As soon as I entered my room, I slamd my body on the bed, and my eyes quickly shut down. It’s too tiring. "I’ll get up when Rika gets inside," I told myself as I took a nap without even changing into my pajamas.
"Young miss."
I grunted as I tossed and turned on the bed. "Young miss!" I opened my eyes after hearing Rika shouting in my room. Right, I need to eat dinner before studying at 10. "You’re going to be late for school."
I imdiately got up from the bed after hearing that. "Late? What ti is it?"
"It’s already 7:40, young miss. Your class starts at 8." Shoot! I slept the whole night without being able to study! "I brought the lady’s food so that you can eat it—"
"No need. Just help
change into my uniform." Even though reluctant, Rika helped
change and tied my hair into a ponytail. There’s no ti for
to eat breakfast since the swimming team has a morning assembly today, and I can’t skip it. "Tell Kaoru to hurry to the car."
"Kaoru’s waiting in the car, young miss."
With that, I rushed to the car without being able to greet everyone, and I told Kenji to hurry up. "The lady’s energetic today. Did you have a good sleep?"
"Shut up and just drive." I’m tired of dealing with his teasing.
"Our lady’s so an towards ." He chuckled but still listened to my words, and we arrived at the school earlier than expected. "Right, lady Tomoe wants
to remind the lady that she’ll be moving the bridal lessons to after dinner since you have club activities and about the study session with the young master—"
I didn’t wait for Kenji to finish as I hurried out of the car and ran toward the indoor pool. This is bad! If those mbers started to hate
because I was late on my first day, I don’t know how I would handle it. ’Please.’ I was already begging inside my head as I opened the door.
"Oh, Noelle." Ericka waved her hand at
with a smile on her face. "Class is already starting. Why did you co here?" She said while I walked towards her, observing the whole place. Why is there no one else here but her?
"Ah! Right, the assembly." She stood up from the chair near the storage room. "Miss Samantha canceled it yesterday night. Didn’t you receive the text I sent you?" W-What? Ericka texted ? I searched for my phone in my bag, and there was really a text there.
"Why did the coach cancel the assembly?"
Ericka giggled. "It’s because she has a hangover today. She’ll be attending the training later, though." She said as she wrapped her arm around my shoulder. "We should get going. Your first teacher will probably scold you if you’re late for her class.
That’s right! I need to run, but wait... "Why are you here if there’s no morning assembly?"
She shrugged. "Don’t know. I just felt like looking at the pool before sleeping in class." Ericka laughed. "I’m just kidding. Let’s go!"
I sighed out of relief as we walked toward our classrooms. Kaoru was already standing in front of our classroom when I arrived. He must have been confused since I ran out of the car without waiting for him.
"What are you still doing there? Let’s get in." I pulled Kaoru into the classroom, and thankfully, Miss Valencia was still not there. "Oh? Ace." And Candace is finally back, but it’s weird. She’s wearing a face mask, and her eyes look tired again. Is she working the night shift in that convenience store where she has a part-ti job?
"Are you okay? Do you have a cold?"
Ace grunted. "A little. But I’m fine." She said with a hoarse voice. It doesn’t sound like she’s okay. "What about you? I heard from Andrei that you’re preparing for a special examination. Do you want
to help?" She coughed after asking that, making
feel bad. How can I ask her for help when she’s already looking sick like this?
I smiled. "No, I’m handling it well." I patted her head like how she usually does to . "You should just think of recovering fast. Do you want
to get you so dicine from the infirmary?" After asking her that, I heard her laugh. It’s rare for Ace to catch a cold. I’m really worried about her condition.
"I’m fine. Just lacking sleep." She said. "You’re joining the swimming team again, right?"
I nodded. "You’re finally moving forward towards your dream." Hearing that caused
to stop.
My dream? That’s right, but why do I feel exhausted?
