Chapter 160: Side by Side
After my talk with Ace, I never saw Night visit
again. I’ve been going through rehabilitation and I can now speak well. My mother even hired a tutor so that I could go back to school as soon as possible, only if I wanted to.
"Night’s not coming," I said, causing my mother to flinch. Of course, she must be aware of what dad did to Night. "I want to see him."
"S-Soon my dear. He’s a little busy with school. You know that he’s aiming to beco a doctor, don’t you?" She said, but I know that she’s lying.
I just want to get out of the hospital as soon as possible, then I’ll find Night on my own.
The longer I stayed in the hospital, the mories that were missing slowly ca back as if a slideshow. And I learned that I didn’t end up here because of that ti when Night pushed
off the cliff.
Instead, because I protected him. I know I shouldn’t feel happy that I almost died, but knowing that I did it to protect Night, I feel so delighted. ’I was able to protect him.’
Maybe... Night’s blaming himself again this ti— no, he’s probably blaming himself. I don’t want him to do that, and it was my choice to protect him. I’m glad I protected him.
Days passed quick, and I was discharged from the hospital.
"We’ll be living with each other again." My mommy said while hugging . "Our business recovered thanks to the Yamaguchi-gumi." She added, but dad suddenly grabbed her by the waist as if trying to stop her from talking about it.
’But why?’
We rode in dad’s car and we arrived at a normal-looking house. Unlike the mansion we once had, this one is a two-story house with a garage and a backyard.
"Doesn’t this look aesthetic?" My mom asked. "Your father and I decided that we shouldn’t live in a huge mansion anymore since it’s just the three of us." She added.
"I want to see Night."
Dad opened the gate and said, "You should stop involving yourself with the Yamaguchi-gumi." He said and mom followed him.
"Why?"
We entered the house, and I didn’t even bother looking at the furniture and what it looked like inside because I wanted to et Night as soon as possible.
"No good things will happen if you keep being with the mafia. The oyabun will understand. I cannot lose you again, Noelle." My father said as he looked
straight in the eye. "Do you understand?"
"No." I balled my fists. "It’s not the Yamaguchi-gumi that I want. I want Night."
I heard my father sigh. "He will never be able to escape from the Yamaguchi-gumi. It runs in his blood, and you know that."
Even if I know... I still want to be with him, no matter what happens.
"Your father’s right, Ellie. For now, you should stay in your room and rest— Ellie!"
I ran out of the house as fast as I could. I’m sorry to my parents but I just can’t let Night go. All I want right now is to see him and to be with him.
"Ellie!" I heard my father calling my na. "Noelle Faith Alcantara! Co back here." Hearing him say my full na doesn’t make any changes to what I feel. ’What an Asian thing to do.’
As I keep running away, I suddenly heard the sound of a motorcycle, and it appeared right in front of , stopping
from running.
"What the—"
The guy removed his helt. With a smile, he said, "Get on."
I raised an eyebrow after seeing Aziel and even moved back from him. "What do you want from ?"
"Wow, that’s an." He chuckled. "Don’t you want to et Night? I’m here to help you."
"How did you—"
"Hurry, before your father catches us." He said as he put on a helt on my head. "Let’s go!"
I rode on the motorcycle while holding onto Aziel’s waist, and he quickly started the engine, leaving my father screaming my na.
"Your father’s really screaming at the top of his lungs," Aziel said while chuckling. I ignored him.
"How do you know he’s in the mansion of the Yamaguchi-gumi?" I asked as I noticed that this path is towards the Yamaguchi household.
"It’s because I’m Night’s stalker." He said as if he was mocking . "No, actually I don’t know. But I think those people would know, right?"
Aziel has a point. We both might not know where Night is, but Kenji will know.
Despite how I felt annoyed by Aziel’s constant laughing, I continued ignoring him and just waited for us to arrive in front of the mansion.
"You’re really ignoring , huh? Even though I’m the one who helped you two before."
"Helped with what?"
Aziel chuckled again. "I helped Night to regain his sanity. Didn’t you know what happened after you took that bullet from Junichiro? Night shot Junichiro right on the head and even tried to kill everyone."
S-So, Junichiro’s dead?
"If it wasn’t for , he wouldn’t notice that he was already going berserk and it would be too late to save you."
The more I hear about what happened that day, the more I want to see Night.
As soon as we arrived in front of the Yamaguchi-gumi, I got off the motorcycle and rushed towards the gate.
"You’re not going to thank ?"
I ignored Aziel as I tried to open the gate, but it was locked. "Hello? Is anybody there?"
Night smiled at
when I woke up and stayed with
for a while, but after that, he vanished. I can’t let him do that because of what my dad said.
"Milady?" I looked behind and saw Kaoru with Kenji. "U-Uhm, did sir Maki allow you to go here?"
What? So daddy inford them that he doesn’t want
to involve myself in the Yamaguchi-gumi again?
"He knows. Now answer , where’s Night?"
Kaoru and Kenji looked at each other. "The young master didn’t inform you?"
"Inform? About what?"
Kenji sighed. "The young master doesn’t live here anymore."
"What?" How could that be? "Was he kicked out because of ? Did the oyabun punish him? It’s all my fault."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Kenji raised both of his hands. "That’s not it, milady."
My forehead creased. "Then what is it?"
"The young master wanted to cut ties with the Yamaguchi-gumi," Kenji said.
"Why would he do—" no, that seems possible. Night didn’t want to beco the heir in the first place. "Then... is he kicked out? What about his father?"
Kenji sighed. "Please let
explain it all first." He said as if he was already tired of . "The young master wanted to create his own path, and he doesn’t want to follow the Yamaguchi-gumi’s ways. At first, we all thought that the oyabun will be against it, but after what happened to the lady, the oyabun let the young master go without a fight."
Grandpa Kenta did? That sa grandpa Kenta that would always scold Night for not being perfect?
"Hiroshi-sama helped a lot as he wished for the young master’s freedom more than anybody else," Kenji added. "The young master is still part of the Yamaguchi-gumi, and he will now use his original surna. However, he is free to choose his path and what he wanted to do."
That’s really good news... but why? "Why didn’t he tell ?" I looked at the ground. "Am I not going to be a part of his future anymore? Because of what my father said?"
I heard Kenji let out a deep sigh. "Let’s go to his apartnt then." He said. "Milady? What are you waiting for? Let’s go."
I was dumbfounded after Kenji said that, so I followed him and Kaoru to the car. ’Is it really fine for us to go to Night’s apartnt without prior notice?’
"The young master and the lady should talk things out. It’s too botherso for
to explain when I’m not the one in a relationship." Kenji said while sighing.
"I’m so glad the lady is awake now," Kaoru said even after what Kenji said. "I cried during the graduation because you couldn’t attend."
That reminds ... "What happened to the swimming team? Did they win?"
Kaoru looked at . "Yes!" He said with a huge smile. "It was amazing because Leslie said that she did it for you."
Hearing that made
smile. I’m glad they weren’t affected by what happened to .
"Milady, we’re here." It wasn’t even that long and Kenji said that. ’We’re already here?’ When I looked outside the window, I saw the huge and luxurious condominium in front of the car.
’So Night’s still living a luxurious life even after leaving the mansion.’ I smiled. "What are we waiting for then? Let’s go."
I saw how Kenji and Kaoru looked at . "Here, this is the card for the young master’s room." Kenji gave
a card and kicked
out of the car. "His house’s on the 8th floor."
They drove away after that and I was left dumbfounded. ’That jerk.’ Even though I was shocked, I still went to where Night’s apartnt was. It wasn’t that hard to know where it was because there was a number on the key card Kenji gave.
No matter how I pushed the doorbell, no one answered, so I decided to just use the key car and opened it. I entered the room and the lights were out. Maybe, Night’s still at school.
I road in the house, and I saw that he kept things plain and simple. There isn’t much here. "It feels like him." When I opened the door to his room, I could sll his scent which I truly miss.
"When are you going to co ho?" I sat on the bed and waited. But maybe I got too comfortable. I didn’t notice I was already fast asleep.
I felt soone’s hand on my head which woke
up. "Good morning." Night said as if he didn’t leave
behind and disappeared for weeks.
His handso face and sparkling eyes stared at . I missed him so much. The way he tucked my hair behind my ear and his soft yet deep husky voice. I missed all of it.
"Your father will get mad if he learned that you ca—"
I pulled him into a kiss, cutting him off.
Night gently pushed
away. "We can’t." He said. "Your father will get mad."
"I love you."
Night froze. "I’ve been waiting to tell you. I did my best in the rehab so that I could tell you again how much I love you."
Tears started falling out of his eyes as he avoided my gaze and looked down. "I couldn’t protect you." He said.
"It’s because it was my turn to protect you." I placed both of my hands on his cheek. "You can’t just abandon , okay?"
"I didn’t... I wanted to change. I want to prove to your father that I am worthy to be with you."
What’s with that? "That sounds so cool." I pulled him into a hug. "I missed you so much."
I felt him whispering sothing into my ear, and my whole face ward up because of it. ’How shaless.’
And that’s how the two of us started becoming each other’s warmth and ho. It took
so long, but I achieved my dream.
To beco Night’s wife, and be by his side, not behind him. Not chasing after him, but walking side by side at the sa pace.
