Rory

"What?!" I demanded again because I couldn’t believe what I had just heard.

Jason’s scowl only deepened as he kept staring at and I let out a disbelieving laugh before sitting up.

"So, let get this straight, your wolf is no more because... because it’s punishing you and you believe it’s because of ? What the hell are you waffling about?" I demanded, resisting the urge to laugh.

Jason picked up his coffee and sipped it for a few seconds before speaking.

"Because I rejected you." He responded flatly and I blinked at him in confusion again, and then he let out an exasperated breath and continued.

"After rejecting you, my wolf went dormant on . So yeah, the enigma part of has been asleep for years, all thanks to you." He explained, mouth twisting at the last part and that was when the actual explanation fully dawned on .

Oh shit. He was being serious?!

He’s really suffering because of ? But how is that possible?

"Wow," I finally blurted, hands pressing against the hot surface of the coffee and Jason shrugged a little but remained silent.

"But you don’t have a scent right now, you haven’t since we crossed paths again," I mumbled slowly and sothing almost painful crossed his face tight before it disappeared.

"That’s cause I’ve been using scent blockers," he explained snd I frowned again.

"Why? And isn’t too much of that harmful?" I asked and he shrugged and rolled his eyes.

"It never hard ." He muttered before leaning forward again.

"And the reason I use it is because now my wolf is basically an ordinary alpha, and it just doesn’t feel right since I was never an ordinary wolf, y’know? It always feels like a part of is missing and I also hate slling like a regular wolf so it’s just best that I block the scent off." He explained and I felt my eyes widened as he spoke. That was the sa thing the doctor said, that killing one’s enigma will leave one feeling like a shell and like he has lost one part of himself.

I let out a sigh and finally drank from my coffee, and then I spoke.

"That sucks."

"Of course it sucked! My whole life got ruined after my wolf went dormant and things just never went back to how it used to be." He said, voice sharp. "And I searched for you, I instantly wanted to make it right, but you were nowhere to be found. You were over here in this country living a beautiful life while I remained back, suffering every damn day."

This ti, I felt anger start to boil inside of and I narrowed my eyes at him, feelimg irritated as I spoke.

"Wait, are you blaming for your wolf punishing you? How is that my fault?" I demanded and he leveled with a glare that I wanted to slap off at once.

"Well, of course it’s your fault! I searched everywhere for you and you were..." he was still speaking when I cut him off, mouth on a thin line.

"That’s because I was facing my own share of suffering!" I snapped and he grew silent. I let out an irritated huff as I continued. "Do you even know half of it? Of course you don’t. People like you who are born into money can’t even begin to comprehend the amount of suffering I passed through before getting to this point in life." I stated firmly and Jason pursed his lips but remained silent this ti.

"Well, you can’t bla . How was I supposed to know?" He demanded and I rolled my eyes.

"By asking questions like a normal person, and besides, don’t forget that I’m seeing you right now as a free will of mine so stop directing your anger at ." I added, even though I was actually here because of my son and Jason let out a loud sigh and nodded once, before going ahead to let out an apology.

Noe that I was finding out that he had been cursed this whole ti, his desperation to see was suddenly making a lot of sense to . I drank from my coffee again while letting my mind wander around.

"So, this whole ti that you were searching for , what did you intend to do after finding ?" I asked this ti and he leaned forward, eyes locked with mine as he began to speak.

"I intended to apologize, and... and to get you to forgive because I know you’d be undoubtedly mad at , then after forgiving , you’d get to accept back as your mate." He explained and ny eyes widened because that was the last thing I expected him to say.

"Oh wow." I muttered and he let out a ragged sigh, fingers dragging through his hair.

I shrugged my shoulders after a few minutes. "But you obviously know and understand that, that can’t work any longer, right?" I began and he pursed his lips but remained silent and I continued.

"I an, even though I do feel a little sorry for you, there’s no way I can accept you as my mate, when you literally rejected as your mate years ago, that’s fair, don’t you think so?" I drawled and he frowned, lips in a thin line but he still remained silent and I continued.

"Anyways, you’ll find to find another way to get your wolf to forgive you or sothing because for one, I already have Kenny and won’t ever leave Kenny no matter what." I paused. "And even if Kenny wasn’t in my life yet, I still won’t accept you to beco my mate." I inford him and he let out a scoff after a few monts, eyes darting around for a few monts before it returned back to .

"But you’re well aware that there’s no other cure for my wolf except you forgive and accept . That’s literally the only thing that can work for my situation." He gritted out and I rolled my eyes and shrugged, feeling unfazed and enjoying this way more than I was supposed to.

"That’s not my business, is it?" I snipped back and he was back to gritting his teeth.

He didn’t respond this ti and we both fell into a silence that stretched out for about ten minutes before he ended up breaking it.

"Is your son for ?" He asked and I flinched, taken aback because that was the last thing I expected him to ask. I an, I knew he had his suspicions since last that night but I didn’t think he’d quickly figure it out, or have the guts to ask to my face like he had just did. Although I shouldn’t be surprised at the way he sotis acts, he was an enigma after all and they were known for being fearless because they were always the most powerful in a room no matter what.

I let out a long breath and dropped my coffee before nodding slowly.

"Yes, he is," I responded quietly. I wanted to actually lie and claim my child belong to soone else, however, since Niko needs the help of his father now, and since I had already told him about his father, I didn’t there was a need to hide it from Jason.

The shock on Jason’s face was starkly evident. His eyes were blown wide while his mouth hung open for about a minute.

"I have a son?" He finally whispered in awe and I nodded again. If I didn’t know how ugly his attitude was, I’d have found his shock endearing right now.

"He’s an enigma." I admitted but this ti, Jason didn’t appear shocked.

"That’s expected since I’m one. I ca into mine at five years. His coming two years earlier is impressive." He mumbled quietly and I felt a frown appear across my face.

"Not so impressive when it’s affecting him so much." I admitted quietly and Jason instantly appeared worried, asking what I ant and I shrugged and told him it was taking a toil on Niko and that the only reason he was still hanging on has to be because of Kenny. An unreadable expression crossed his face at the ntion of Kenny’s na but it was gone just as fast.

"Does... does he know about ?" He asked quietly after a few minutes of silence and I nodded reluctantly.

"Yeah, but just recently. But, he isn’t interested in eting you yet." I tell him and he sucked in a sharp breath before nodding in understanding.

"Although... he’d be needing you soon because of your enigma status. At the hospital, it was recomnded for him to connect with a fellow enigma." I explained, hating that I was doing this right now but having no other choice.

A pinched expression appeared across his face next as he admitted that he wouldn’t be able to help Niko this way with his wolf being dormant, and I realized that we were back at square one.

I pursed my lips and folded my arms. "I guess I’ll have to find another ans of help for my son because I can’t accept you since I have Kenny, I can’t ever leave him, it’s not an option." I pointed out and Jason exhaled before speaking after a few minutes.

"But Kenny doesn’t have to leave the picture. What if... what if I don’t mind that Kenny would remain in the picture?"
