Evander’s POV
I looked around for Claire, but she was nowhere to be found. My frustration mounted with every passing second. I needed to see her—to tell her that I was here for her, no matter what. To let her know that I was willing to wait for her, no matter how long it took.
But the longer I searched, the more agitated I beca. My chest felt tight as if the very air was suffocating . Where are you, Claire?
I was still looking for her when my cell phone buzzed in my pocket, but I ignored it. It was a call from my mansion, but nothing— not even that— could distract from my mission at hand.
Just as I was about to lose hope, I heard faint footsteps echoing in the corridor. My heart leaped in my chest. I recognized that sound, that rhythm of movent. It had to be her.
I turned toward the corner without hesitation and saw her pacing back and forth, her silhouette lit by the dim corridor lights. My feet moved on their own, closing the distance between us until I was close enough to act.
I didn’t wait. I wrapped my arms around her from behind, pulling her into . Her warmth, her scent—it hit all at once.
"Claire," I whispered, my voice low and raw. "I can’t stay away from you. I won’t. I will wait for as long as it takes, but please... don’t push away."
Her body tensed against , but she didn’t pull away. I leaned closer, my lips grazing her ear as I spoke. "I need you to know how much I love you. I will never hurt you again. I swear it." I repeated myself once again.
As her response earlier had shocked . She had asked not to hurt her and asked to give her so ti, wanting to hug her close.
But before I could embrace her tighter, a noise interrupted us as soone’s footsteps approached us.
I acted instinctively, grabbing Claire’s hand and pulling her toward the nearest door. I pushed it open and pulled her inside with .
The room was small— no rather it was cramped. It was barely big enough for one person, let alone two.
Our bodies were pressed together in the confined space, and I beca acutely aware of every point of contact between us. Her chest rose and fell against mine, her breath warm against my neck.
"Evander..." she whispered, her voice barely audible in the tight space.
I could feel the tension radiating between us. The heat of her body, the way her lips parted slightly as she looked up at , the way her cheeks flushed under the faint light seeping through the cracks of the door—it was maddening.
My hands, which had been braced on the wall behind her, twitched with the urge to touch her, to pull her even closer.
"I am sorry," I murmured, my voice hoarse. "I didn’t an to—"
"Then why are you still holding like this?" She cut off; her tone was teasing, but her eyes betrayed the turmoil within them.
I swallowed hard, my self-control teetering on a knife’s edge. "Because I can’t let you go," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
Her lips parted as if she wanted to say sothing, but no words ca. Instead, her gaze flickered to my lips, lingering there for a mont too long.
My heart thundered in my chest as I leaned in, our faces now re inches apart. "Claire," I murmured, my voice heavy with emotion. "If you want to stop, tell now."
She didn’t respond. Instead, her eyes locked with mine, wide and full of conflicting emotions. The silence stretched, heavy and electric, until it was almost unbearable.
I tilted my head, my breath mingling with hers, and for one agonizing second, and in that second, I felt everything around had disappeared.
As I leaned closer, the space between us seed to shrink to nothing. Our lips were dangerously close, and I could feel the heat radiating from her. Her breath quickened, shallow and uneven, as her long eyelashes quivered in anticipation.
My heart pounded in my chest, and I struggled to keep my composure. "If you permit ..." I murmured, my voice low and hoarse, trembling with restrained desire. I paused, my lips hovering re inches from hers. "I would like to kiss you."
Her wide eyes searched mine, and for a fleeting mont, I thought she might give an answer. But before the words could escape her lips, my sweaty palm—pressed against the wall for support—betrayed . It slipped suddenly, throwing off balance.
In that unguarded mont, my lips crashed onto hers.
The kiss wasn’t planned, and it wasn’t gentle. It was raw, accidental, and electric. Her soft lips lded against mine in a collision of surprise and tension that neither of us had prepared for.
I froze, unsure of what to do, expecting her to push away, to yell, or to run. But instead, she stood still, her breath hitching against my mouth.
The room felt even smaller now, the air thick with an unspoken energy. Slowly, hesitantly, I pulled back an inch, enough to see her face.
Her cheeks were flushed a deep crimson, and her lips slightly parted as though she wanted to say sothing but couldn’t find the words. I couldn’t tell if she was angry, shocked, or sothing else entirely.
"I... I amm... I didn’t an—" I stamred, my voice was shaky as my hand moved instinctively to steady her arm.
"You..." she started but stopped, her fingers brushing her lips as if still processing what had just happened.
"I’m sorry," I whispered, my forehead almost touching hers now. "I didn’t an for it to happen like this, but...
