Evander’s POV

I was worried about Claire as I dragged her to my mansion, and it hurt to see how much she doubted , more than I could admit. I wanted to tend to her bruises, to soothe her pain, but I could see the way she looked at — with hate, suspicion, and a guardedness that cut to the core. So, for now, I decided to hold back. I would win her trust again, piece by piece, and make sure she never had to feel wary of ever again.

I wanted her to open up, to confide in , to tell everything that was on her mind and in her heart. But I knew that was a distant dream. I had a long way to go before she could see as anything other than a source of her pain.

Despite the pain that I was feeling, I still had a pressing matter on the hand, Gloria. She had sent a legal notice a few days ago, demanding custody of Eliam. I had always known she hated , but this... I hadn’t expected this step. She was going after Eliam, my son, in every way that she possibly could, and it was a line she had no right to cross.

I consulted my lawyer imdiately, desperate for a way to stop her. His advice was blunt and practical: either I remarry with soone else or convince Claire to return to and play the role of my wife.

But how could I ask Claire for help when she was already so hurt? Dragging her into my family’s endless ss felt really wrong. She had endured enough because of , and the last thing I wanted was to burden her even more.

I was determined to fight Gloria on my own, no matter how dirty the battle got. But everything almost shattered when another notice arrived early this morning, and this was more threatening than the first. Gloria was not only coming for Eliam but also targeting Claire once again.

My blood boiled at the thought. Gloria had no limits— she didn’t just want to hurt ; she wanted to destroy everyone I cared about. And I couldn’t allow that to happen.

As much as I hated it, I realized I might not have a choice. If protecting Claire and Eliam ant asking her to stay by my side, I would do it. Not because I wanted to use her, but because I couldn’t bear the thought of losing either of them.

No matter what, I would do whatever it took to keep them safe. This ti, I wouldn’t let anyone—especially Gloria—take what was mine.

I hesitated to bring this topic up with Claire. She had already been through so much, and I didn’t want to add to her burdens. But seeing the way she cared about Eliam and the protectiveness in her eyes I saw for Eliam, I knew I couldn’t keep her in the dark any longer.

If I needed help from her, she needed to know everything. The history I shared with my so-called mother was far from simple. It was a tangled web of betrayal, bla, and pain, and I had kept it buried for so long. Now, it was ti to lay it all out for Claire.

As I began to speak, I could see the shock in her eyes. Every word I said seed to deepen her disbelief, and for a mont, I wondered if I had made the wrong choice in telling her. But then I noticed a change in her. I noticed her expression soften—not with pity, but with understanding. It was clear she was processing everything, but more importantly, she seed ready to stand by .

I had thought that today would be all about my revelations, my truths coming to light. But what I hadn’t expected and what completely stunned —was Claire’s revelation.

Her words caught off guard, and for a mont, I couldn’t process what she was saying. My mind raced to catch up, trying to make sense of the pieces she was now putting on the table.

Claire, what are you really trying to say?" I asked as I raised my brows in suspicion. "Why couldn’t Lexi get pregnant?"

"I... I an..." Claire stamred. It was clear she had sothing she didn’t want to talk about. But I couldn’t let her keep secrets, not when this information might be crucial.

"Claire," I said as my tone was firm but steady, "don’t try to hide anything from . I need to know what you ant when you said Lexi couldn’t get pregnant." I repeated my question, emphasizing every word.

Claire hesitated as she fidgeted with her fingers. It seed she was clearly uncomfortable. "Did... Did Brother Elijah never tell you that?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"What is it?" I pressed, and this ti I had an urgency rising in my tone. "What did my brother hide from ?"

Claire glanced at as her eyes were so full of hesitation that I couldn’t tell why! "Then... then can you tell why Brother Elijah gave up his position in the company as CEO?" She asked cautiously, her gaze searching mine as if she were trying to find out how much I truly knew.

Her question caught off guard, but I quickly brushed it aside. "All I know is that my brother did not wish to be confined to a four-walled office, eting old n at the business etings every day. He loved to travel and wanted to explore the world. That’s why he left the position," I replied in a steady tone but after seeing her like this, I wasn’t sure if what I knew was the real truth!

Claire’s eyes widened in surprise, her tone turning sharper. "Really?" she asked, the disbelief was evident in her voice. "Then... Then it ans you know nothing about your brother at all!"

Her words hit like a brick. After my father left, my brother was the only supporting pillar I had, as I couldn’t expect anything from my mother!

"What do you an by that, Claire?" I demanded, my voice firm as my heart started pounding in anticipation. I just hoped that she wouldn’t reveal sothing that might shatter even further, as I was broken enough.

She hesitated again, her lips pressing together as if she were searching for the right word for . "Evander, there is sothing about your brother and Lexi that you don’t know. Sothing I think you need to hear, but I am not sure if I am the right person to talk about this since this was their personal matter and I accidentally ca across this secret."

I leaned forward as my patience was wearing thin. "Claire, stop beating around the bush. If there is sothing I don’t know, you need to tell now!"

"Your... Your brother was..."
