Susan’s POV

I clenched my fists in fury, feeling the heat rise to my face as Gloria’s words echoed in my mind from last night’s call. Take Evander under your wing as soon as possible, or else... he will slip through your fingers like sand. The thought of losing him after all these years was unbearable. My heart pounded as a twisted mix of rage and desperation built inside .

"No... no... no... I can’t let this happen!" I muttered through gritted teeth and forced myself to stay composed. It was already challenging enough to keep that little pest, Claire, in check. And now, Evander was openly drifting toward her, as if my years of careful planning ant nothing!

How could he betray like this? After everything I had done— every move I had made, everything that I told him, and every look I had given him. I worked too hard and sacrificed too much to let that pathetic woman win. The very thought made my blood boil.

"As long as I am alive," I hissed to myself, a dark smile tugging at my lips, "I won’t let Evander fall into her hands. I didn’t spend years molding him, making him mine, just to hand him over to her once again." I took a sharp breath, feeling the satisfying chill of my resolve harden within .

Evander belongs to . And if Claire thought otherwise, well... I would make sure she understood just how wrong she was.

I paced the room, frustration simring as I racked my brain for a way to pull Evander’s attention back to . Claire had been creeping further into his life, and I could feel him slipping away. I needed sothing that would shake him and force him to care about again and co back to .

Then, an idea hit —a subtle accident that would leave just the right impression.

I moved to the kitchen and, after a careful glance around, filled the kettle with water and set it to boil. Once it was ready, I poured a bit into a mug, holding it just loosely enough that a sudden "accidental" spill would be believable. Taking a deep breath, I let my hand tilt a little too far, spilling the hot water over my wrist.

The scalding heat seared my skin, and I winced and almost cried out of pain, but I quickly pulled myself together and dialed Angel’s number, and soon enough, she picked up the call.

"Angel," I said in a soft, shaky voice as I was really in burning pain, "I have... burned myself. It’s not serious, but I think I need soone here— I am a bit shaken up and in a lot of pain."

Angel’s voice turned frantic, laced with genuine concern. "Miss Susan! Are you all right? Please don’t move— I... I’m in a eting right now, but I’ll send soone over imdiately!"

"Don’t!" I replied firmly, my voice trembling just enough to sound desperate, but I was in real pain too. "Don’t send just anyone. Call Evander and tell him I’m hurt badly! I need him here."

"Yes! I will call him right away," Angel replied without hesitation, hanging up quickly to reach him.

As soon as the call ended, I set my phone aside. A satisfied smirk tugged at my lips. The plan was working perfectly, but I needed a little extra to make sure he would have no choice but to take care of . I turned my attention to the stairs, bracing myself as I carefully positioned my foot on the edge of a step.

With a deep breath, I took a slight misstep, twisting my ankle just enough to make it look like a genuine accident. Pain shot up my leg, and I bit my lips in pain to stop myself from wincing. The injury would hurt, but it would be worth it if it ant Evander would have to carry in his arms; his concern for would be my reward for .

Now, all I had to do was wait. Soon, Evander would arrive, and this little "accident" would bring him right back to .

Evander’s POV

I sighed in irritation as I picked up my phone and listened to Susan’s assistant, Angel, babble on about so accident. Why was I the one being called to pick her up? Didn’t she have an entire staff for that?

However, I needed to take care of her since I owed her a lot and I couldn’t leave her alone in pain.

Out of so sense of obligation, I found myself heading to the car. Just as I settled into the driver’s seat, a sudden knock on my window made pause. I glanced over, my brows knitting together as I saw Claire standing outside, looking at expectantly.

I rolled down the window and gave her a questioning look. "Claire? What are you doing here?"

Claire tilted her head with a soft and awkward smile. "I heard Susan is hurt, and you were going to see her! I thought you might need so help!"

I hesitated. There was sothing calming about her presence, and part of preferred her company, but I didn’t wish to trouble her because of soone else. "It’s alright! I will take care of this matter! You can stay here and leave after that." I replied firmly.

"Soone I know is in trouble... I couldn’t leave her like this!" Claire said as she slipped into the car and buckled her seatbelt. She gave a small smile. "Let’s get going!"

I looked at her for a mont, then nodded. "All right. If you are up for it, I have no problem."

We drove in silence for a while; the silence creeped between us until Claire finally spoke up. "You seem to care about her a lot," she said, her tone thoughtful.

I glanced over, surprised. "What do you an?"

She shrugged, looking out the window. "Just that... you are always there for her. It’s like you care more about her than anyone else."

Her words hung in the air, making look at her as the car ca to a halt at the red light!
