Claire’s POV

I was gripped with fear as I trembled at the thought that the man I once called "father," the one I had barely escaped from, was here once again. He was back, and it was clear he intended to control all over again, forcing to do his bidding. The very idea of it made my skin crawl.

This man was the biggest reason for it if my relationship with Evander was in ruins, And now, he was trying to use to get close to Evander again, manipulating as a way to claw his way back into Evander’s life. But why? What more could he possibly want?

As far as I knew, Evander still had business connections with him. What else did this man need from him? Why couldn’t he just let , let us, go?

"I am telling you, I won’t let you use Evander anymore! We are divorced!" I said firmly, my voice steady despite the fear tightening in my chest. My words earned another slap from him, and this ti I stumbled back, hitting the floor hard with a painful thud.

"You really think you can do as you please?" George sneered as his eyes were dark with anger. He reached into a kitchen drawer, pulling out a knife, and started toward . My heart raced, fear filling as he drew closer. I was sure sothing terrible was about to happen.

Then, loud knocks echoed from the door, attracting our attention. The noise gave a sliver of hope, but uncertainty crept in. I wasn’t sure who I had called or who was on the other side. Could they really help — or could they be even worse?

"Who the hell is here now?!" George cursed, glancing toward the door but then dismissing it as he continued to stalk toward .

But the knocking didn’t stop. Whoever was on the other side kept pounding on the door; each knock grew louder and more urgent.

"Who the hell did you call?!" George hissed as his glare was sharp and dangerous. I could see the fury in his eyes, and the way he gripped the knife told he was barely holding back from using it on . His frustration mounted with every knock, making him curse under his breath as he finally turned and stord toward the door.

"M-Mr. Evander!" George stamred as his voice trembled. I could see the fear in his eyes as he took a step back, clearly intimidated by Evander’s presence.

But why was Evander here? Had I sohow called him without realizing it? I struggled to get to my feet, but the pain from my fall held down, making it hard to move.

"I am her husband," Evander replied firmly, his tone unwavering. "I have every right to be wherever she is." His words made my heart skip. Husband? I thought, startled. Then again, he had said he hadn’t divorced . So, of course, he wouldn’t back down from calling himself that.

"I... I understand! But I thought Claire divorced you?" George’s voice trembled as he tried to keep his cool, though his fear was all too obvious.

Evander’s POV

My blood boiled as I saw the knife in George’s hand. I didn’t know exactly what he had done in the apartnt, but after overhearing that call and seeing him now, I knew he wasn’t here for any fatherly visit.

What had gone so wrong? How could this man do sothing like this to his own daughter? I thought as I held Eliam close, then shoved George aside and stepped inside. My heart sank as I spotted Claire on the floor, looking broken and defeated.

I rushed to Claire’s side and kneeled down to help her. Her face was pale, and bruises were forming where she’d been struck; her cheeks were red and swollen. She looked up at , her eyes filled with pain and a glint of relief.

"Claire... are you alright?" I asked softly, trying to keep my voice calm, though anger still simred beneath the surface. She gave a weak nod, but I could see she was struggling.

George stumbled back, clearly rattled but still clutching the knife. He glared at us, his face twisted in frustration. "Mr. Evander... She divorced you, and I just wanted to punish her. He spat at Claire as his tone dripped with anger. "She is my daughter. I have every right to punish..."

"She is your daughter, but that doesn’t give you the right to hurt her," I shot back, keeping my gaze steady as I moved Claire carefully to her feet. "You have crossed a line, George, and you are going to pay for it."

"And... You have no right to interfere in our matter! If we have a problem, then we can take care of it! Who the hell are you to interfere?" I galred at him. I wished to kill Geroge then and there; however, my eyes fell on Eliam beside , whose eyes were filled with tears seeing Claire in this condition.

George’s hand shook as he still gripped the knife tightly, but he seed unsure now. He hesitated, but nothing ca out of his mouth.

I hugged Eliam and then turned to Claire as I gave her a reassuring glance. "I am here now. He won’t lay another finger on you." I whispered.

For the first ti in what felt like ages, she let out a shaky breath and leaned toward for support, making my heart skip a beat.
