Claire’s POV

My eyes widened in shock. Evander was in a coma? How could sothing so significant happen, and no one thought to tell ? Was I truly no one? A flood of questions rushed through my mind, each one hitting harder than the last.

Why didn’t anyone inform ? Not even a whisper about it. I had been in the hospital too, recovering for a week, filing for divorce, and then packing my things to leave the Kensington Mansion. There must have been so many opportunities to tell ... yet no one bothered.

Did I really an so little?

And then another thought hit like a ton of bricks—why wasn’t there any news coverage? How could a major accident involving a wealthy family like the Kensingtons go unnoticed by the dia? There wasn’t even a single report about it.

My heart clenched, weighed down by the disappointnt and confusion. The more I thought about it, the more my pain deepened, not just for myself but for what we both had endured in silence. We had been broken in different ways, carrying burdens we didn’t even know the other had.

I felt the sting of betrayal all over again.

No one spoke for a while, the air thick with unspoken words, until a small, milky voice broke the silence.

"Daddy!" Eliam’s cheerful call echoed through the room as he ran in, with Susan right behind him. She looked as elegant as ever, her expression poised, but for a fleeting mont, her face showed surprise when she saw standing next to Evander.

"Forgive ," Susan said in her usual soft, calm tone. "Eliam didn’t want to stay at ho. He kept asking to co here." Her voice was sweet, but I couldn’t help but sense sothing underneath it.

Evander’s eyes narrowed at Eliam as the little boy ran straight to , wrapping his small arms around my legs. "Yes, Daddy! Aunt Susan is right. Eliam wanted to et Mommy as soon as possible!" he exclaid with a proud grin.

Mommy?

A wave of shock crashed over . Why does this little boy keep calling ’Mommy’? And worse—he was doing it right in front of Susan. Wasn’t she supposed to be his mother? My mind raced, trying to make sense of the situation.

Susan’s face twitched, but she remained composed. I could feel her eyes on , waiting for my reaction, and Evander stood silently, his expression unreadable.

Just what in the world was going on here?

"Why were you at my ho this early?" Evander’s voice was cold, colder than I had ever heard it, even towards .

Susan flinched under his gaze, her confidence faltering. "Evander... I—I just went there to..." she stamred, clearly trying to explain, but Evander wasn’t having it.

"Go back to the office. I’m on leave today," he said, cutting her off sharply, dismissing her with a wave of his hand as though her presence annoyed him.

Susan looked like she wanted to argue, her lips parting as if to speak, but when she saw the steel in his eyes, she stayed silent. She turned to leave, but not before casting a final glance filled with her usual contempt. That familiar hatred burned in her eyes, like she blad for everything wrong in her life.

As the door clicked shut behind her, Eliam looked at . "That Aunty is bad, Daddy!" He complained as he hid behind . "She didn’t even let eat and rushed here! She kept asking to call her Mommy all the ti!"

"What!" Evander’s eyes widened in surprise as he looked at and the kids hiding behind . "Tell more," he said, his tone firm yet restrained.

It was strange hearing him ask for more information with just a few words.

Evander had always been a man of few words. Back when we were married, conversations between us were practically nonexistent. He never gave a complint, never really acknowledged unless he had to. I always thought it was just , that he only treated with such distance.

But seeing him now, it hit . This was how he had always been, cold and detached, not just with but in general. I wasn’t special. I had been married to this man for five years, and sohow, I realized, I barely knew him at all.

In those years, how could I have really known him? He was hardly ever ho. We t once or twice a month, if I was lucky. Even at family events, where I was expected to be there, whether I wanted to attend or not, he was always detached. It wasn’t wrong to say that the man in front of was practically a stranger.

Eliam didn’t say a word as he continued to hide behind , flinching at every cold glare Evander threw his way.

"Eliam has recently started speaking after seeing you at the award function," Evander said, his tone surprisingly gentle.

But why was he telling this? Why did his son call his own mother as Auntie? Just what the hell?

He turned to Eliam. "Don’t worry, she won’t co to you anymore!" Evander’s voice was firm as he walked away after taking Eliam with him, his face calm, but I could sense a shift in his deanor.

He looked furious! But why? Did my presence really upset him that much? I couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to make him so angry. There was so much left unsaid between us, and his sudden outburst only added to the confusion swirling in my mind. I wanted to understand what was happening.

I never said I wanted to co near them.
