She was later told he was present in his office, one of the many legally that he possessed.
Evelyn wanted to scoff at that. It didn’t matter if he was in a business that was their legal front or not, he would never allow her to enter any of his illegal ones.
Hesistance was clear on the face of the guard whom she had told that she wanted to visit Salvatore.
From the corner of her eyes she could see one of them turned around and place a phone next to their ear. They were definitely calling one of the Guards of Salvatore.
"Are you sure, madam?" Theo confird again, "the don would prefer if you sort this out at ho."
Of course he would.
Wives, unless in the business, were not appreciated in the workplaces unless they have been called by the husband.
And by the looks of it, Salvatore appreciated her to stay at ho, especially given that she had been inside the house for the past two years and completely out of public eye.
"Let’s go, Theo," Evelyn opened the door of the car herself before climbing and closing it shut.
It was a smooth flow after that. Salvatore must not have said no because they were not driving back ho.
Salvatore said yes, but why?
Before she knew it, the car stopped in front of a huge building and her guard was opening her door.
"One of his etings has been cancelled," she was told by Theo as he led the way to the office where her husband was, "the one he is in currently could not be dropped."
"That’s fine." Honestly, there was nothing that she could probably take as an offence in this situation.
His appointnts were fixed probably months ago and by barging in his schedule without thinking before, she had burdened him with more work than unnecessary.
Once the doors to the left opened to the top floor where he, the CEO operated, she was led directly into his room.
"He has asked you to wait," Theo pulled out a chair for her to sit in. "The don is wrapping up the eting as soon as he can."
Wasn’t just her thinking about it like this or was Salvatore taking this way more seriously than necessary?
Perhaps she should have waited for him at ho and talked to him about it over dinner.
Feeling a bit remorseful, Evelyn turned to Theo. "Could you tell him to take as much first ti he needs? In fact, can you fit to have lunch with him?"
At the mont, she had no more desire to talk with him knowing that she had pulled him out of work.
Arabella already has been taken care of and rushing him into matters like this was not going to give her any quicker results.
Theo didn’t have any change in his expressions as he shook his head. "It has already been done. If the don has cancelled sothing, he cannot go back on his word."
She knew that, and as much as she wanted to snap at him to tell him that, did not an to dean by reminding her of the fact that she had heard from her father a thousand tis.
Made n on the high chain of hierarchy can never go back on the words.
So she patiently waited while staring at his office. There was nothing that could be considered personal here. It was definitely designed and decorated by an interior designer but there was nothing that could say that this man had a family.
Theo retreated back into the corner of the room and stood near the door. Everyone was sure that soone else must be standing on the outside too.
Slowly she got up and moved to the chair behind the desk from the visiting ones that she had been sitting on.
A little, wicked thought of snooping to her mind. He was the percentage seems to have an OCD when it ca to cleanliness and organisation which only prompted had to check how were his desk draws doing.
The guard standing inside the office posed no concern to her. Salvatore would probably be inford by the security caras in his office before Theo could.
The mont the door opened, sothing flew out of it with the force that she had opened it with.
Since she was already doing sothing she was not supposed to, Evelyn stood up dutifully and walked closer to the paper that had fallen a few tres away.
She bent down and picked it up before flipping it over—
Her lips parted. It was her in the picture but not her when she had expected him to see her.
It was from the ti when she had been working in a Diner because it had been hard on her financially when she was dating that idiot.
"How?" Evelyn whispered, staring at the picture, baffled by the tiline of it.
When had he co across her when she was working like won who appeared that she had not taken a bath for god knows how long?
"Evelyn,"
She yelped and jumped away at how close he appeared to be.
His eyes flickered to the picture in her hand and he plucked it out of her fingers. "It belongs to ."
It did.
She nodded, a bit ashad of the fact that she had been caught snooping. "Sorry,"
He nodded before pointing at his chair that was behind his desk, making her sit on it.
"What is it that you wanted to talk about?" He took a seat in front of her on the visiting chairs and the next thing she knew, he had opened a file.
"I was visiting Arabella at the orphanage," she was mindful of what she was staying in case anyone was listening in. "Alexis was there and she was making sure that the funds went to the right place. There was sothing she said..struck."
"What?"
She bit her lip for a second before answering, "she said that it was only soti before Arabella would get adopted and how I should remain in the reality that opportunity is not far."
Salvatore nodded his head slowly before raising it, "What do you want to do about it? Because she was not wrong."
"Exactly," she snapped her fingers. " Can I adopt Arabella?"
His eyebrows moved up for a quick second before they ca back and he regained his expression. "What?"
Evelyn nodded. "We do not have a child yet and arabella would be an adopted girl and the world would know about it. So technically no one would feel threatened or oppose the idea because she is never going to have a claim To The throne."
Salvatore cocked an eyebrow up and caught on to what she was talking about. She basically repeated his words from the morning.
Was this what he had been planning for all along?
That hint of amusent in his eyes made her doubt her entire reason for coming here.
She had not been the one aning in this situation, but..
This had been his plan all along. She was going to be enchanted by the little girl and when she would be told that the little girl did not long to her, it was obvious that Evelyn was going to take the matter in her own hands.
Instead of feeling relieved about figuring it out or the fact that this had been in her favour, Evelyn felt dirty.
She felt used.
"What’s wrong, Evelyn?" The subtle smirk playing on his lips irritated her. "What are you thinking about?"
"You manipulated ." She accused, throwing a pointed finger at him. "This had been planned by you all along! You knew I was going to co for adoption and that is why you pushed — was Alexis involved as well?"
That seed highly unlikely but she was not going to put it past Salvatore or his father.
Salvatore sighed before going back to his file and turned a page. "My mother was not involved in this but it was predictable."
"She was going to tell you the truth in the most polite and subtle way possible. That is what she does, and that is what was expected."
"Yes but you used her too?!" She shook her head in disbelief. "That is exactly what you did. You used her in your plan."
He tutted but concentrated on the file. "Have you gone deaf and dumb? Your brain refuse to understand what you have heard?"
Evelyn’s cheek burned. "No!"
"Then?" Salvatore, very calmly, proceeded. "Why do you not understand that this did not involve my mother but only you?"
Maybe, Alexis had always been predictable. After all, she only had a few things to do and by the looks of it she never left the chance of doing it.
But this bastard had certainly not left the opportunity to manipulate her.
Having enough of the conversation and the feeling of dirt crawling on her skin Evelyn got up and walked to his side before leaning down and her lips next to his ear, "you have manipulated and half and tonight when you co ho,"
She grinned, "you better co with the child."
Before the man could utter a word, she turned around and strutted out of the door.
