Chapter 1341: Tests

The massive beam lit up the environnt, shining for a few seconds before disappearing altogether, replaced by charred, glassy ground and fuming trails.

A vast, deep, conical gorge expanded from Khan and Liiza’s position, stretching far into the distance, establishing a solid canyon in that otherwise ever-changing desert. The area’s very topography had changed, but those results didn’t convince Khan.

The beam was vast and powerful. Its execution was also rather effortless and short. It was a more widespread but portable version of Khan’s lightning bolts that conveyed equal, if not superior, might.

However, Khan was capable of much more now. The purple-red storm still active in the distance vouched for that. anwhile, that beam felt like nothing more than a useful trick, viable in battle due to its flexibility, but limited compared to what Khan should be able to summon.

“[A beam is a simple but efficient offensive thod],” Liiza declared. “[It’s not a wrong path, but you used your previous culmination to regress now. Try to do the opposite].”

Liiza’s words were rather vague, making Khan wonder if that was how others felt when he tried to explain his view of the mana. Still, he obviously understood her, so he put those thoughts aside, focusing on the matter at hand.

Khan kept his clawed hand stretched forward, releasing more mana. Energy escaped his fingertips without taking the shape of sparks. Five purple-red trails blew out of them, partially dispersing in the windless environnt.

Under Khan’s control, the bright trails changed direction, converging toward his palm to create a spinning mass of unstable energy. His mana accumulated there until his fingers forcefully stretched, making the attack reach the critical point.

Sothing far more blinding and briefer invaded the environnt at that point. A flash of purple-red light suddenly illuminated the area and imdiately disappeared. A single thundering noise followed, but the spell had already unleashed its effects.

The beam had solidified the gorge’s surfaces, lting them into a glass-like material. However, the second spell destroyed that stability, causing an eruption of grey sand from the very bottom of that canyon.

Waves of sandy ground erupted upward, destroying the massive gorge and subrging it. That giant structure disappeared as quickly as it had ford, leaving behind an even ssier area.

Needless to say, that iteration of the sa technique was leagues above the previous. It wasn’t only far faster. Its destructive power also seed to surpass Khan’s ordinary lightning bolts without losing any flexibility.

A beam born from Khan’s sparks was bound to carry the latter’s limits. Yet, a lightning bolt created through Khan’s newfound basic energy didn’t have those restrictions, allowing it to surpass his previous power levels.

Liiza was about to utter a praise when she sensed sothing through the ntal connection. A faint feeling of enlightennt dawned upon Khan, silencing Liiza so that he could concentrate.

Khan studied his still-stretched hand, making more mana escape his fingertips. His fingers released five new purple-red trails, which amassed power as they stretched higher into the sky.

The purple-red trails of energy also began to release a humming noise, gaining a sharp, bloodthirsty nature that didn’t change their color, transforming into proper slashes once Khan waved his hand.

The slashes dug into the just-settled sand, carving five holes on its surface before disappearing deep under it. There didn’t seem to be a limit to their range, and the tallic sand barely posed any resistance, letting them dig until they escaped Khan’s perception.

The attack was similar to what the shorter black alien had launched toward Liiza, but Khan had wielded sothing similar years before that fateful battle. That was his Divine Reaper, which seed to have gained a new, superior shape.

“[Better],” Liiza exclaid. “[It still resembles your curse, but it’s better].”

Khan finally retracted his hand, using it to scratch his head. He felt free and unburdened, but translating that sentint into spells without accounting for the bad habits developed throughout years of struggles was far from easy.

“[Don’t be so hard on yourself],” Liiza scolded, leaving Khan’s shoulder to straighten herself on his crossed legs. “[I spent years before and after eting you studying myself and my elent on a broad but straightforward path].”

Liiza reached for Khan’s chest, clawing her fingers on it while gazing at the purple-red sand around them.

“[Instead],” Liiza continued, “[You walk on many paths. You have the Niqols’ control, the Nele’s kindness, the humans’ technical understanding, and the ancient horror’s drives].”

That was the limit of Liiza’s teachings. She was exceptional as a Guru and Shaman, but Khan was in uncharted territory, a path no one had trod.

“[You will rediscover yourself one step at a ti],” Liiza reassured. “[And if you falter, I’ll be there to push you down].”

Khan threw a knowing look at Liiza, smirking, but she turned, facing him while wrapping her hands around his neck.

“[Show your runes],” Liiza requested, her face hinting at a reward Khan desperately craved.

Khan complied, tilting his head in concentration while his influence abided by his thoughts, conveying orders to the symphony.

Bright energy gathered above Khan’s figure, gradually forming a line. A second eventually materialized, and more followed, creating a stable but ethereal rune that hovered in the air.

Khan only needed to will it for the rune to activate, and a suction force spread through the environnt. The symphony, air, and purple-red sand rose to gather toward that floating symbol, shattering to deliver raw energy.

Liiza inspected the process, a wise, cold expression on her face. Her knowledgeable eyes studied more than the simple accumulation of energy, delving as deep as the unique anings Khan had inscribed into each line.

Eventually, the rune stopped absorbing energy. It didn’t reach its limits, but Khan knew he didn’t need to continue keeping the spell active. Even unleashing its accumulated mana was superfluous since the ntal connection told him Liiza had seen enough.

“[I’ll spend more ti teaching the Niqols’ symbols],” Liiza decided, her glowing gaze still on the rune above. “[You shouldn’t replicate them, but understanding them will help you].”

Khan was about to say sothing when Liiza suddenly pushed him down, sending purple-red sand everywhere once his back hit the ground. A white light also shone on him, trying to hide the lip between Liiza’s teeth.

“[I’m all healed],” Liiza whispered, blushing as her eyes grew unfocused.

Khan imdiately fell into a daze, losing track of his surroundings, cutting away everything except his wife. However, a red symbol suddenly lit up on Liiza’s right wrist, making her groan in frustration.

“[Yeza is hungry],” Liiza muttered, lying down, securing herself on top of Khan, knowing that his figure had already started flying back to the camp.
