Khan violently hit the frozen ground, bouncing a few tis on it before his body slid to a stop. The skin on his arms, legs, and torso scread in pain due to the many cuts and burns that littered it, but his mind barely recorded that suffering.
The ntal connection told Khan exactly how much pain Liiza was in, outclassing whatever sensation his body tried to send to his brain. She was powerless and needed his help, and the sa went for their baby, but his perception also captured more worrying events.
Khan’s head snapped up, his glowing gaze looking past the smoke coming from his figure to see the incoming attacks. A barrage of black lightning bolts was flying toward him, while slash-like spells were heading for Liiza.
Both spells were relatively huge and released that glowing black smoke, and their influence was already noticeable. Khan could see the symphony disappearing in his eyes, and the mana inside him was also starting to suffer from a similar fate.
Everything began to go in slow motion as Khan’s brain went into overdrive. Countless calculations happened in his mind, attempting to find a solution to that terrible predicant.
Liiza was relatively nearby. Khan could instantly reach her, dodging the barrage of black lightning bolts in the process. However, the fuming slashes would be upon them by then, and Khan didn’t dare to move Liiza away in her condition.
Khan could still endure the black slashes on his own, protecting Liiza at the sa ti. His spells were useless, but the [Blood Shield] could block those attacks. The aliens had already proven themselves able to break through his defensive technique, but he would probably survive.
The problems would co later. Moving Liiza away would still be troubleso, and the black aliens wouldn’t just wait for Khan to do it safely.
Actually, the black aliens were bound to exploit the mont after the clash. Khan would be even more wounded, forced to stay still while protecting Liiza, surrounded by an energy that could obliterate the mana. It would be the perfect opportunity to kill him.
Nevertheless, Khan didn’t care about his life. He could only think about protecting his wife and child, so his mana moved, opposing the nearing obliterating presence to prepare a sprint.
As for what would happen later, Khan didn’t care, either. He would be a sitting duck, forced to stay still to protect Liiza while being partially powerless, but that didn’t worry him. He would think of sothing, and if he couldn’t, he would just do sothing reckless.
Khan’s body carried the genes of ancient horrors and instincts on how to use them. He didn’t know how much they could achieve in that situation, but they would be his only remaining weapon, so he would give the entirety of himself to them if it saved Liiza.
That conviction went beyond Khan’s usual selflessness. It was a sacrificial drive that stemd from his most basic instincts. That was how a husband and a father had to act, even if it turned him into a slithering monster.
Still, Khan wasn’t the only one imrsed in that brainstorming. Liiza went through similar thoughts and also felt Khan’s resolve, so she mustered the entirety of her self-control, ignoring the pain, to lift an arm to the sky.
"[Ti]!" Liiza cried, her hoarse voice carrying a profound, powerful aning that resonated with the world. Her word echoed with anything it touched, and an unbelievable event unfolded.
The black, fuming spells’ advance abruptly slowed down. Even the world symphony and the very air quickly halted their movent, eventually coming to a stop. The world in Khan’s eyes froze, but he seed immune to those effects.
’[Don’t move],’ Liiza’s voice resounded in Khan’s head, almost making him gasp in surprise. Yet, he managed to suppress that reaction, staying as immobile as possible. He even held his breath and kept his gaze still to follow that order to the letter.
’[I can’t keep this up for long],’ Liiza spoke to Khan’s mind again, ’[And I’ll collapse once it expires. I’ll also hibernate as a safety asure for the baby].’
Khan had to suppress his instinctive reactions once again. He couldn’t express how much he was against that technique’s repercussions, but Liiza probably felt that through the ntal connection.
’[I didn’t want to do it like this],’ Liiza continued, ’[But I’m worried about the baby, so listen to for a bit].’
Khan couldn’t help but be all ears. He had always paid close attention to Liiza’s teachings, and the situation made his focus skyrocket. Yet, Liiza’s following words, or thoughts, didn’t seem to have anything to do with it.
’[Do you rember our cave on Nitis]?’ Liiza asked, knowing Khan couldn’t reply. ’[I know you do. You didn’t allow yourself to forget despite all the sorrow from back then].’
Khan had to refrain from lowering his gaze. Still, Liiza was right. He recalled every mont from Nitis, and even its worst mories were dear to him.
’[Do you rember the day the solar winds hit Nitis]?’ Liiza questioned. ’[They deployed you to deal with the village that day, but we were together when the order arrived].’
Liiza stopped for a second before resuming. ’[I was whining about how popular you had gotten and the fact that I couldn’t publicly call you mine. Normally, I would have jumped on you, but you still owed four hours of sleep].’
Khan recalled that scene perfectly. It was rare to see Liiza flustered, so he had enjoyed watching her whine.
’[I was so ready to forget about the hours when you brought to the waterfall],’ Liiza revealed, ’[But you chose to reassure instead, showing how well your training was going despite our secret relationship].’
’[The only other tis I saw you so happy were when you flew with Snow or were with ],’ Liiza added, and Khan could almost hear a sigh through the thoughts she transmitted to his mind.
A hunch ford in Khan’s mind, as if warning him about sothing he had forgotten. He would frown if he could, but his perfectly still face didn’t stop that realization from gaining ground.
However, Liiza had to add one last point to make sure her ssage got through and Khan received what he needed to deal with their predicant.
’[You had every reason to pursue strength],’ Liiza said. ’[You still do, and most of it cos from your curse, but there was sothing else, too].’
Khan froze for real now, and that reaction intensified when Liiza added her final words. ’[You enjoyed it. You liked it when mana was just innocent magic].’
