"lo, you should know, I won’t allow you to sleep till 11:30 a.m., wait for the hangover to pass, and then leisurely co for training. My training camp starts at eight every morning, and anyone arriving after 7:50 will be considered late, and the training is tough, are you sure you want to join?" On the phone, Roger gave Carlo Anthony a heads-up.
His training camp is not a place where you can co and go as you please; he doesn’t want Anthony to show up and then be inconsistent. The seriousness of the camp must be maintained, or everyone will think the rules are arbitrary.
This is also why Roger was so upset when Gary Payton unilaterally left the training camp last sumr.
To be honest, Roger didn’t really care whether Gary Payton trained or not; the problem was that he undermined the atmosphere.
After hearing Roger’s warning, Sweet lon was obviously a little angry: "Roger, of course I can stick to it! What the heck? Is this all the trust you have in ? Don’t worry, I’ll be the most hardworking person in your camp!"
Why the sudden inspiration for Anthony?
Because he was greatly stimulated by the Dream Team’s training this sumr.
When Kobe used his influence to get the whole team to wake up early for training, Wade could keep up, Paul could keep up, and Jas could keep up.
Only Sweet lon decided to sleep in after just three days of persistence.
Since then, Sweet lon noticed that Jas seed to get closer with other teammates while his own relationships grew distant.
In the end, that team completely beca Kobe and LeBron’s team.
Carlo Anthony never thought he was worse than Jas, in fact, in this tiline, Sweet lon always believed he was stronger than Jas.
He had never missed the playoffs in his career, while Jas only reached the playoffs for the first ti last season. Mind you, Anthony was in the more competitive West.
He always targeted Roger, LeBron Jas? Anthony couldn’t be bothered to even glance at him.
This sumr, however, he saw with his own eyes how LBJ beca more valued than him on the Dream Team.
In the Dream Team, he felt that he and LBJ were not even treated as athletes on the sa level.
That’s when he resolved to change.
First, he needed to endure early training.
The Sweet lon from the original tiline definitely wouldn’t have thought it was so unacceptable to be inferior to LeBron Jas. Early in his career, LBJ didn’t have so many clownish acts; he was genuinely the Chosen One.
But this tiline’s Jas isn’t that great, so Sweet lon can’t accept being inferior to him.
Seeing Anthony so determined, Roger was, of course, ready to welco him with open arms.
Three days into training camp, Roger found that Carlo Anthony really had a lot of issues.
His defense was terrible because he focused all his energy on offense.
That’s understandable if you can dominate offensively; you can slack a little on defense.
But Carlo Anthony didn’t have that kind of offensive dominance.
Yes, his output was high, but his efficiency severely devalued his scoring.
Yet Anthony clearly had all the skills and was very refined, so why was his efficiency not improving?
Roger asked Jeff Hornacek and Joe Abunassar to help analyze Anthony’s playstyle, and they ca to a reliable conclusion: Anthony drove to the basket too frequently.
That’s right, he drove to the basket too often.
Including Roger, everyone had the wrong impression that Anthony was the type of jump shooter who liked to finish from mid-range, similar to Kevin Durant.
Impressions can deceive, but numbers don’t lie.
Last season, Carlo Anthony’s shots at the basket accounted for 45% of his attempts. Even for a power forward, that’s a scary number, let alone Anthony who played small forward.
Mind you, the small forward LBJ, notorious for only driving to the basket, never had a season with over 40% of his shots at the basket in his entire career.
No one knows why Anthony is so obsessed with the interior, but he just loves to do it.
But liking to drive to the basket seems contradictory to low efficiency because scoring near the basket is usually the high-efficiency choice.
This involves the second issue Anthony faces: His finishing rate at the basket is simply too low.
He’s not a monster like Victor Wembanyama who can casually score by just reaching out; he doesn’t need to compare his finishing rate with drive specialists like Wade and Jas because he can’t even compare to Paul Pierce, a relatively diocre scorer at driving.
There are many reasons for Anthony’s low efficiency in driving, such as his lack of skill in dribble penetration or his poor timing when shooting near the basket. Not just in the NBA, but even in international competitions, Anthony is always the one getting blocked.
In short, low efficiency in driving yet a penchant for driving is the real reason for Anthony’s inefficiency.
As for mid-range? That was not a problem; mid-range was actually his most efficient scoring thod.
Roger gave Anthony so practical advice.
He suggested Anthony reduce long twos and, if you’re going to shoot long twos, might as well take a three-pointer.
He also suggested that Anthony reduce driving, and instead of wasting effort on penetration, save that energy for defense.
