The Watson Enterprises office was quiet that morning.
Too quiet.
Jay walked quickly down the hallway, her heels making small click click sounds on the floor. She was holding a folder full of papers.
Inside the eting room, Keifer was already there.
Of course he was.
He was sitting at the table, reading sothing on his laptop. His face looked serious. More serious than usual.
Jay stopped at the door.
"You’re early," she said.
Keifer looked up.
"And you’re not late," he replied. "That’s new."
Jay rolled her eyes and walked inside.
"Don’t start."
"I’m not starting," he said calmly. "I’m working."
Jay sat across from him and dropped her folder on the table.
"Then explain sothing."
Keifer raised an eyebrow.
Jay opened the folder and slid a paper across the table.
"This report says Watson Enterprises changed the delivery numbers yesterday."
Keifer frowned.
"We didn’t."
Jay crossed her arms. "The system says you did."
Keifer turned his laptop so she could see.
His screen showed the sa numbers.
But sothing was different.
"Look closer," he said.
Jay leaned forward.
Her eyes moved across the screen.
Then she blinked.
"Wait."
Keifer nodded slowly.
"Exactly."
The numbers had been changed.
But not by him.
And not by her.
Soone else had edited them.
Jay sat back.
"That’s impossible," she said.
"Nothing in business is impossible," Keifer replied quietly.
At that mont, the door opened.
Honey stepped inside holding her tablet. Percy was right behind her.
Percy looked cheerful like always.
Honey did not.
"Sorry to interrupt," Honey said.
Jay noticed sothing strange.
Honey looked worried.
Very worried.
Keifer noticed too.
"What is it?" he asked.
Honey walked closer to the table.
"I found sothing strange in the company system," she said.
Percy blinked. "Strange how?"
Honey placed the tablet on the table.
"There were edits made to both company files last night."
Jay leaned forward.
"Both?"
Honey nodded.
"Watson Enterprises files and Mariano Enterprises files."
The room went quiet.
Keifer’s eyes darkened.
"Who did it?"
Honey shook her head slowly.
"I don’t know."
Percy frowned.
"Maybe just a mistake?"
Honey looked at him.
"I checked three tis."
She turned the screen toward them.
The editing history appeared.
There was a na.
But it wasn’t soone they knew.
Jay read it out loud.
"User: Admin-47."
Keifer leaned back in his chair.
"We don’t have an Admin-47."
Jay slowly felt a cold feeling in her stomach.
"Neither do we."
Honey looked at both CEOs.
"I didn’t want to say anything before I was sure."
Percy scratched his head.
"So... soone broke into both systems?"
Honey nodded.
"Yes."
Keifer closed his laptop slowly.
Jay looked at him.
For once, they weren’t arguing.
They were thinking the sa thing.
Soone was ssing with their companies.
And none of them knew who.
Keifer stood up.
Jay stood up too.
"What do we do?" Percy asked.
Keifer looked at Jay.
Jay looked back at him.
For the first ti in a long ti, they agreed without speaking.
Jay said quietly,
"We find out who did this."
Keifer nodded.
"And we stop them."
Honey glanced at the screen again.
Her voice was soft.
"But what if this is just the beginning?"
No one answered.
Because deep down...
They all had the sa feeling.
Sothing bigger was coming.
