The rcedes cruised down the road, with Yan Fei humming a tune and heading ho with his wife.
They just had another feast; it was the association’s celebration banquet. As a key figure, Yan Fei had to be there and even had a bit of alcohol. When they first left, Xu Xiaoyan was driving, but once they got on the road, Yan Fei took the wheel.
They could have gone faster, but Xu Xiaoyan thought it was nice this way. The moonlit pastures and farms outside the car window made the couple inside feel especially cozy.
"Do you think you’ll get on the big newspapers this ti?"
Hearing his wife’s question, Yan Fei thought for a mont: "Probably, right? After all, it’s sothing that boosts reputation. Aren’t we about to enter the World Trade Organization? Anyway, I’m a businessman who’s stepped out and made an impact, so there’s a chance."
They were talking about the interview Yan Fei gave to dostic newspaper reporters after the auction. The reporters stationed here were, of course, from leading companies in the dostic newspaper industry — the big newspapers Xu Xiaoyan ntioned (na omitted).
"Hehe!" Xu Xiaoyan chuckled with delight. It was just a little thought of hers; she felt it would be quite an honor if Yan Xiaofei got on the big newspapers.
Actually, they didn’t ask much, nor any sensitive questions. They just asked why Yan Fei chose to start his own business and let him talk about his journey. Yan Fei just said he felt he should step out and set his sights further, and other cliché expressions.
In fact, what Yan Fei really thought was that earning from his own people wasn’t satisfying; earning from foreigners felt better. But this could only be said in private, not in front of a big newspaper reporter.
The girl giggled foolishly for a while, then rembered sothing: "I called Xiao Ya then, and said our beef sold for over 10 million AUD. She said to mail her a few copies of tomorrow’s newspaper, and she’ll put them in the restaurant. People over there recognize this. With the newspaper, raising prices this ti won’t be bad; it will actually be a good thing. Rember to remind tomorrow!"
"Okay!" Yan Fei nodded in agreent. Actually, he didn’t even need to rember; the girl definitely wouldn’t forget. She was just happy inside, finding words to say. "We’ve tid it well, so you should buy a few more copies to keep at our cattle farm and give so to all custors."
So things can’t be changed, so it’s best to turn bad things into good. Since people think foreign stuff is the best, let them see what foreign newspapers say about our beef, and let them see what good beef is — if one million per cow doesn’t make for good beef, what does?
In so people’s words, are those foreigners fools? They’re spending millions, so it must be good stuff!
Whatever foreigners spend a lot on is considered good and whatever they deem valuable is seen as especially valuable; this is the belief of the majority. No one can quickly change others’ perceptions, but Guo Jingya thought early on that this perception could be used to promote her restaurant’s ingredients.
Yan Fei has done this often; in fact, a lot of companies do it this way. Naming products to sound like they are foreign, or creating so international limited company, or labeling it with a Hong Kong na tag, may be clichéd tactics, but they never fail to work.
Seeing his wife so gleeful, Yan Fei’s mind wandered again, fantasizing about what could happen once they get ho. Poor Boss Yan, with little experience, was unaware of the thing called ’car gifting’, thus missing a great opportunity.
...
"Xiaofei, can you book a ticket for tomorrow?" Lin Baoguo ran over right as they arrived ho.
"What’s the rush? It’s easy to get a ticket back." Yan Fei said as he carried a bag of things he had bought in the city, speaking while walking. "Once today’s business is done, you’ll have free ti, so stay longer and have fun. By the way, didn’t you want to practice shooting? It’s just right..."
"I’m not practicing. I need to head back," Lin Baoguo said gloomily. "If I stay a few more days, I won’t want to leave. The corruption here is too much; I have to go quickly."
After the auction in the afternoon, with Yan Fei still socializing, Lin Baoguo returned early with Heizi and the others. On the way, he’d been conflicted, ultimately deciding he needed to leave quickly.
Being here wasn’t doing any good. Originally, a few days of relaxation would have been fine, but right after the auction ended, he felt even more conflicted. He discovered a distressing issue.
Originally, he thought it was frustrating enough to realize his monthly salary wouldn’t even cover soone’s al. But he discovered sothing worse: that his yearly or even decade-long salary wasn’t enough for a al. Now he realized, in fact, what’s even more frustrating than a decade’s salary not covering a al is working an entire lifeti and still not being able to buy a single one of their cows.
The capitalist society is truly corrupt!
So, he planned to hurry back and continue working diligently. If he stayed longer, he might beco shaken!
Director Lin always knew that being a director was already quite good. His ability was just to work on the front line and keep one local jurisdiction safe; beyond that, he had no other skills.
Although there were unsatisfactory aspects to his work, he always found joy in it. Even when he was wronged earlier, he never thought about quitting and didn’t intend to take advantage of his nephew-in-law to do anything else.
