Chapter 1660: Chapter 788: Yang Xing’s Ho – Arrival in Arica_3
There’s a joke that goes, Aricans are so lazy; when we’re working, they’re sleeping. Give it a few years, and we’ll surpass them…
In Sancha River Township, the ones who crack jokes like this are considered “worldly” people. Saying such things carries a hint of flaunting their “broad knowledge.” Most people truly aren’t aware that the ti difference can stretch over ten hours—when we’re sleeping, they’re working, and when we start working, they’re just getting ready for bed.
Before boarding the plane, Yang Xing gave Yan Fei a whole list of instructions, but ironically, it was Yang Xing who ended up feeling unwell during the flight. Along the way, Yan Fei ate and drank without pause, even helping himself to more than half of Yang Xing’s share.
Yang Xing could only shake his head helplessly. This expert, who usually climbs mountains and wades across rivers with ease, couldn’t quite get used to flying. No matter how many tis he’d flown before, it still didn’t sit well with him.
After enduring the journey, they finally reached their destination—a place called Four Fey Market. By then, Yang Xing had sowhat regained his spirit.
Yan Fei took the initiative to handle the luggage and such after they landed, noticing that Yang Xing still wasn’t doing well. He seed so lightheaded that even his gait felt floaty, a far cry from his usual decisive and commanding deanor.
In fairness, a flight lasting over ten hours isn’t sothing the average person can easily handle.
At this mont, it was morning in Arica, and the weather was nice.
Yang Xing mustered his energy to give Yan Fei a quick introduction: “Four Fey Market is one of the places with a significant Chinese population—there are tens of thousands of Chinese people here…”
Listening to Yang Xing’s introduction, Yan Fei didn’t feel like this place resembled a hub for the Chinese community. Starting from the security check line, he hadn’t sensed any goodwill toward Chinese people in this city—in fact, having sharp ears wasn’t always much of an advantage.
Yan Fei had intended to pick up on bits of surrounding information to quickly get a sense of the place. Instead, what reached his ears were malicious terms like “yellow-skinned monkeys.”
So people were even whispering things like, “Here co another couple of gold diggers,” with clear implications that their arrival would an stealing jobs and hogging social resources, among other grievances…
These people assud that Yan Fei and the other yellow-skinned individuals around him either couldn’t hear, couldn’t understand, or wouldn’t dare to respond even if they did. So of the remarks were shockingly brazen and unreserved…
Individual ideologies are often influenced by the social policies and agendas around them. That these people thought this way was inseparable from the policies Arica had toward China over the years.
First and foremost, Arica’s technological embargo against China is a cornerstone of its national policy, one that hasn’t shifted even twenty years later. Any country that purchases Arican technology or weaponry is subjected to a clause prohibiting resale to China.
In trade, Arica’s anti-dumping investigations against various countries always rank Chinese goods at the top of the list.
There are also issues like technical barriers and technological suppression. A barrier ans that whatever I have, I can’t let you obtain; the most famous example being patent protections. Suppression ans that if you do have it, I’ll sell it cheaply enough that having it becos worthless for you. Take airplanes, for example: if you manufacture a certain model, I’ll sell the sa model at a lower price, making it more cost-effective for you to buy it from than to produce your own.
There are countless other tactics in play, too nurous to list here.
For ordinary people, the most palpable effect is Arica’s manipulation of public opinion, which tarnishes China’s image among the global population. Many people are led to believe that the Chinese are backward and ignorant, with even quite a few imagining that Chinese people still wear pigtails…
This is why, at the airport, Yan Fei could hear those people showing little warmth toward the yellow-skinned individuals like him, all rooted in preconceived notions.
