Chapter 1658: Chapter 788: Yang Xing’s Ho – Arriving in Arica

In the end, ng Si’an still couldn’t settle on a thousand catties; the quantity turned out to be more than he’d imagined.

This was because the yield of beef per cow on Yan Fei’s side was fixed. Over the years, the cows had been bred to be larger on average compared to before. It’s the natural order of things—when people live better lives, their average height increases, and it’s no different for cows. Back then, they had to plow fields and pull carts; now they just had to eat enough to not go hungry.

So, the premium beef from three cows would definitely exceed a thousand catties. ng Si’an had a hard ti deciding on the one thousand-catty quantity; there was no way he’d agree to reduce it, so he had to increase it.

That was a small matter for the two of them.

Although ng Si’an often complained about being broke and having to ask his family for money, opening a small shop like this was really not a big deal for him. Usually, he’d run errands for the family, and the funds he controlled, aside from paying Yan Fei’s deposit, were enough to start a shop without even having to ask for more. He could just repurpose the money temporarily.

After they finished discussing this, Yan Fei drove off to et Yang Xing.

Where Yang Xing lived wasn’t too far away, as the Capital wasn’t all that big at that ti. It couldn’t compare to the rapid urban expansion that ca later. The thriving areas outside several of the future rings were still farmland, wasteland, or villages at that point.

The people living in these areas never imagined that within a few years, they’d beco urban residents. Once their shabby houses were demolished for redevelopnt, they’d instantly turn into multimillionaires or even billionaires.

Yang Xing’s residence was in one of these remote places. It was outside the Third Ring, and it took a while to get there. Yan Fei finally found the place called Yushu Village, and by the ti he inquired his way to Yang Xing’s ho, it was nearly noon.

Yang Xing had gotten a phone call and ca running out. When he t Yan Fei’s car, he guided him to his doorstep. As soon as Yan Fei got out of the car, Yang Xing said, “Co in and sit down first. I happened to be ho today organizing so things; otherwise, you’d have to go to the research institute to find . It’s much easier to locate than my house.”

As soon as he stepped inside, Yan Fei was stunned. “Teacher Yang, why are you piling all of this stuff in your own courtyard?”

Yan Fei’s surprise was justified. The entrance led to a sizable yard, which turned out to be filled with fossils. The courtyard, spanning what seed like half an acre, was packed to the brim.

“There isn’t enough space at the institute, and my house happens to have room where I can conveniently conduct research. Once everything is sorted, these will be sent to their proper places. For now, this is the best I can do,” Yang Xing explained.

He added, looking a bit embarrassed, “The institute actually provides dormitories, but I find them inconvenient, so I’ve been wanting to get my own place. But I didn’t have enough money, so I had to settle for sothing farther out. It’s cheap here—these few rooms with a yard cost only about a hundred thousand yuan in total.”

“It is pretty far,” Yan Fei nodded. “It’s not even close to the Third Ring. Isn’t commuting to work a hassle for you?”

“What’s the problem? Your teacher’s wife found a teaching job at a nearby school, and I’m not old yet—I just ride a bike for exercise,” Yang Xing said with a laugh. “Our kid is off at school, so it’s just the two of us here. Don’t be shy, have a seat.”

But there really wasn’t much of a place to sit indoors. Yan Fei began to admire that unseen teacher’s wife, who sohow tolerated Yang Xing piling the house with clutter. While these were fossils, cleaned-up ones didn’t look like anything more than skeleton fragnts.

Might as well sit outside in the yard!

The yard had a shed, inside of which were heaps upon heaps of rounded stone lumps. These were fossilized dinosaur eggs arranged by type, with labels on them. The scene was so vivid that, if anyone poked holes into the eggs, it would look just like i Chaofeng practicing her martial arts.

It was truly remarkable how Professor Yang’s family managed to put up with him.

“Most of this will soon be moved out; these were just excavated not too long ago and will leave shortly,” Yang Xing said, catching Yan Fei looking at the area. Feeling awkward, he explained again, “Take a seat; I’ll just finish organizing this quickly.”

“Mmm-hmm!” Yan Fei nodded without knowing what else to say. When Yang Xing was in his professional environnt, he was full of theories, but at ho, he seed a bit constrained.

It wasn’t just the house being far or the yard being ssy… Actually, that wasn’t quite right either—Yang Xing probably saw these fossils as highly organized.

“Aren’t you worried about leaving all this stuff here? What if soone steals it?” Yan Fei made small talk.

“What’s there to steal? Regular people can’t even lift this stuff. Besides, there’s nothing especially valuable here; it’s just everyday items—not worth much,” Yang Xing finally found sothing to say as the host. “Take this, for instance—this is a very common hadrosaur thigh bone…”

As soon as Yan Fei heard the first sentence, he realized he’d asked a silly question. First of all, the stolen value of these fossils wasn’t high. Secondly, theft wasn’t practical unless soone were like him, capable of carrying thousands of pounds of stone away. And on top of that, this was the Capital—any thief trying this would likely be the clumsiest of amateurs. Honestly, soone with that kind of strength might as well get a job hauling cargo at the train station—it’d pay far better.

Lastly, he should’ve avoided bringing up that topic entirely. A yard full of bones was Yang Xing’s treasure, but to Yan Fei—who’d seen too much of this stuff—it wasn’t a stretch to imagine picking out a large bone to boil for soup…

“Hang on. No, what you’re saying isn’t right—this isn’t Microraptor,” Yan Fei suddenly interrupted Yang Xing, pointing to a piece of fossil that had just been pieced together. “Take a closer look. This fossil has four wings, but it’s clearly different from Microraptor. Its hind legs are much stronger and bulkier.”

“Ah, I was wondering why this looked so awkward!” Yang Xing suddenly understood. “Let see… Hmm, like this, yes, this…”
