Chapter 1643: Chapter 782: Act with Conscience

“Pfft…”

The newspaper in front of Yan Wenhai on the table was sprayed with tea, and he didn’t even realize that most of the tea in the cup in his other hand had splashed out. He stared at the phone in disbelief, asking, “What? You say you beca the factory manager? Are you kidding ? Where’s our son? Let him take the phone…”

The three other people in the office were all looking at him puzzled, wondering what had gotten into Secretary Yan, usually so composed. Who on earth beca a factory manager to surprise him like this?

“Can’t I be the factory manager? Our son said if I wanted to do it, I could do it, so what’s the problem? Just because you can be a leader, doesn’t an I can’t be a factory manager?” Lin Xiui said, instantly switching from housewife mode to factory manager mode. “I can’t talk now. At noon, our factory’s leadership team is having a lunch gathering, and they’ll announce this, so I need to prepare so remarks!”

Leadership team… lunch gathering… remarks…

Listening to the beeping sound coming from the phone, Yan Wenhai held it, utterly confused… These words, usually so familiar, sounded so awkward coming from his own wife’s mouth.

Was it because she was just learning to say these words, and didn’t say them smoothly?

He looked out and saw the sun was in the south, so it should still have co from the east.

But why did everything seem so off?

Was the person who just called him really the wife he’d shared a bed with for twenty years?

“Old Yan, what’s wrong with you?” While Yan Wenhai was still in a daze, the others in the office were equally bewildered, not daring to ask what earth-shattering news had just been revealed. Just in ti, soone ca in and seeing his distraught state, casually asked.

“Oh, Old Li’s here, nothing, nothing.” Yan Wenhai replied with his usual politeness.

“If sothing’s up, just say. I may not be able to help much, but at least I can drink a couple of shots with you.” Old Li, in charge of logistics, was also a section chief. He usually got along well with Yan Wenhai. He wasn’t much of a talker, but they had a good rapport, so his simple offer was enough.

Only then did Yan Wenhai co to his senses, looking at Old Li and couldn’t help but smile wryly: “My wife made just for fun, she just told she’s going to the at Processing Factory as the manager!”

“Your wife? Which wife?” Old Li was montarily confused.

“You… how many wives can I have, Xiui!” Yan Wenhai said, amused yet exasperated.

“Xiui beca the factory manager?” Old Li was so surprised that his glasses almost fell off. “She…”

And so, the two of them chuckled bitterly together.

Only now did the others in the office understand. In this office, to put it bluntly, most of the people were simply ‘idlers.’ They held positions of not low rank but had little actual work to do. For instance, Secretary Yan now, as a party committee secretary, had fewer responsibilities than a group leader who didn’t manage production…

Understanding the reason, those present were left speechless: Are you showing off your son’s prowess? Your wife couldn’t sit still in the office, so she turned around and beca a factory manager there. Although the at Processing Factory’s current operational scale doesn’t yet compare to the fertilizer factory, it’s only a matter of ti before it catches up or even surpasses it in everyone’s minds.

You’re just showing off, aren’t you?

An old man slowly spoke: “The at Processing Factory, isn’t that Boss Yan’s factory now? Having your wife be the manager, what’s the big deal? It’s just a title, and it can help Boss Yan by pacifying the workers’ heart. It’s a good thing!”

These words were very much on point. The old man was the chairman of the union, responsible for union matters. This position, well, in the forr iron rice bowl enterprises, such a position existed. The authority was both significant and not, and the benefits were high enough. Sotis, it required doing so ideological work for the workers. Being able to handle this position showed a very fair perspective on matters.

“Chairman Yang really got it right in one sentence.” Old Li instantly understood and laughed. “Stop fussing over it! What, you feel unbalanced because you’re still a secretary while your wife beca a factory manager? Hahaha…”

Yan Wenhai thought about it and felt it was true. Anyway, since his wife’s decision was supported by their son, as a husband and father, he shouldn’t interfere. So be it!

Seeing his expression, Old Li knew that he had resigned to the fact and joked, “Old Yan, you’d better step up, or else your wife’s going to have a leg up on you, and losing authority in the household is no small thing. Co on, don’t think about it. It’s lunchti now. Chairman Yang, let’s all go have a couple of drinks together this afternoon.”

Those in leadership at the factory all had the right to get so entertainnt expenses reimbursed, though folks like Chief Li and Chairman Yang rarely used it. But since it’s there, they figured they might as well use it. Sotis, they might go out to eat and drink a bit with close acquaintances, as a part of their work to maintain relationships.

After all, if you don’t use the entertainnt budget… it ends up gone anyway.

“Co on, you guys decide where to go. Let’s toast Secretary Yan. His family just got a new factory manager,” Chairman Yang joked. After all, it wasn’t coming out of anyone’s pocket, so there was no need to be polite.

The other two also stood up with smiles. No need to worry about leaving a few minutes early. In this office, just by looking at their titles, one could tell they were remarkable—there was a chairman and a secretary, so leaving a bit early wasn’t a big deal.
