High Priestess Bova appeared frenzied, shouting as she charged towards Carlotta, causing Carlotta to imdiately tense up.
Although the intelligence had ntioned the High Priestess’s condition was problematic, this was still soone who once stood as the strongest in a certain world, an imnsely terrifying Exalted. Deep down, Carlotta still felt uneasy.
However, the High Priestess wasn’t charging at Carlotta. Imdiately upon rushing forward, she sped toward the distance. Judging from that direction, it seed she was heading toward the Tower of Babel.
"Scared to death..."
Trenton flew back.
When the High Priestess charged, he imdiately fled into the distance, extrely cowardly. Only after realizing she wasn’t targeting them did he calm down and return.
Carlotta glanced at Trenton.
Fortunately, Trenton hadn’t run in the direction of the Tower of Babel earlier. Otherwise, he would’ve run right into the High Priestess on her way there, creating a terrifying misunderstanding.
Then Carlotta retracted her gaze and quickly piloted the alchemical airship to chase after the High Priestess.
The High Priestess was likely the only one who knew what had happened in the past. She naturally couldn’t just ignore her, she needed sufficient information. Otherwise, waiting for her intelligence to reveal what happened in the distant past might take far too long.
"So fast!"
After chasing for a while, Carlotta frowned. The alchemical airship simply couldn’t keep up with the High Priestess.
She imdiately stored the airship, activated the Speed Card, then exploded forward with astonishing speed, pursuing the High Priestess.
"Wait for !"
Trenton was giving it his all to catch up.
He’d just returned to the cabin of the airship when he suddenly fell through empty space, then saw a sweet-looking girl with long red hair appear. He even froze montarily.
This girl was the owner of the alchemical airship?
Before he could react, she had already rushed away at a terrifying speed, making Trenton’s face turn green.
If both she and the High Priestess left this place, would he remain trapped in this world forever, unable to return?
Thinking about this possibility, Trenton desperately chased after them, yet the distance between them continued to widen.
"Wait for !"
Trenton grew anxious and couldn’t help shouting.
Carlotta didn’t care about Trenton. Her eyes were fixed on the High Priestess, who was growing farther away. At this mont, she also couldn’t help but wanted to shout, "Wait for !"
Even using the Speed Card, she couldn’t catch up to the High Priestess. Their strength difference was simply too great.
"Whoosh!"
The High Priestess entered the Tower of Babel.
Carlotta hastily rushed after, quickly disappearing inside, only to imdiately lose sight of the High Priestess.
"Where is she going? No matter where, she should be heading upward?"
Carlotta muttered to herself.
She changed at the map in her intelligence. Every floor’s entrance and exit within the Tower of Babel was clearly visible to her.
She quickly rushed toward the correct passage, moving at astonishing speed. It didn’t take long before she found the correct path to enter the second floor.
Then the third floor, the fourth floor...
When she arrived at the fifth floor, Carlotta saw the retreating back of the High Priestess. This ti, she didn’t chase. Instead, she went directly to the correct passage and waited there.
During this process, she took out the alchemical airship again, activated its translation system, and quickly began learning the language of World No. 2.
She hadn’t studied for long when the High Priestess flew over.
Carlotta stowed the airship and, speaking the sowhat unfamiliar language of World No. 2, said, "What happened back then? Can you tell ?"
"Boom!"
The High Priestess passed like a gust of wind, instantly blasting Carlotta away, then continued entering the fifth floor.
Carlotta had no choice but to follow into the fifth floor, only to find the High Priestess had already flown to the wrong location.
For the High Priestess, even finding the next floor’s path within the Tower of Babel requires so searching.
Carlotta once again reached the correct location and waited.
Soon after, the High Priestess arrived as expected.
Using the language of World No. 2, Carlotta tried a different approach this ti, "I think we could cooperate. I can help you. You just need to answer my questions. Look, I can easily find the path to the next floor of the Tower of Babel."
The High Priestess still didn’t speak, directly entering the passage to the next floor.
Carlotta shortened and continued downward.
Then, on the seventh floor, eighth floor, ninth floor... all the way to the 120th floor, she stopped at each passage, greeting the High Priestess in advance.
This ti, the High Priestess didn’t leave on her own. Instead, she stopped there, staring directly at Carlotta.
No matter which way she went, Carlotta always arrived at the passage one step ahead. This was highly unusual. There was no way she could truly remain indifferent.
So she stopped, her eyes fixed intently on Carlotta, as if probing sothing.
Seeing that the High Priestess seed willing to communicate, Carlotta spoke in the language of World No. 2, "Can we talk now? Where do you want to go? I can shorten your ti. But, I want to know what happened in the past. What was the War of the Gods about? Where did the gods finally go?"
The High Priestess fell silent for a mont, then said: "I don’t know."
"You don’t know?"
Carlotta found it hard to believe.
The High Priestess said calmly, "Do you know how many ages have passed since then?"
Carlotta froze.
She truly didn’t know this. She only knew that everything had withered, that ti had decayed all things.
Even alchemical constructs capable of lasting indefinitely had been directly scrapped. Such an expanse of ti couldn’t possibly be described in re centuries or millennia. It might have to reach back to a far more distant era.
Thinking of this, Carlotta’s expression also beca sowhat unusual. Even after such an incredibly long passage of ti, the High Priestess was still able to revive. Could an Exalted’s lifespan really be that long?
Or was it... the Eternal Heart?
Earlier intelligence had ntioned that the High Priestess survived using the divine artifact, the Eternal Heart. The function of the Eternal Heart was to maintain a being’s state, eternally unchanged!
The High Priestess spoke again, "I don’t know how many ages have passed either. During the long years, I was in slumber, repairing myself, because back then I nearly died too. The gods took pity on and bestowed upon this divine artifact, allowing to sleep. But that’s all I know. Because the divine artifact is damaged, I couldn’t remain in a complete state to endure into later generations."
In simple terms, her mories were fragnted.
She didn’t clearly rember what had happened in the past. She only knew the gods had died, all beings had died, nothing had remained.
But why these events occurred, even she could no longer explain. That’s why she wanted to understand the truth.
She told Carlotta that the top floor of the Tower of Babel was the abode of the gods. She wanted to go there to find out what had happened.
Carlotta’s heart trembled, "Can an Exalted actually reach the top of the Tower of Babel?"
In World One, the top floor of the Tower of Babel was the goal of many, as nurous people believed an astonishing secret lay hidden there. The reason for the Tower of Babel’s existence might be discovered at its peak.
Yet throughout the long ages, millions of individuals had attempted to reach the top floor of the Tower of Babel, but whether famous Weavers famous across the continent or near-gods bordering on myth, none had ever located the summit.
This Tower of Babel seed endless, with no one able to glimpse the scenery of its highest level.
But now, the High Priestess declared that she wanted to rise to the top!
Facing Carlotta’s confusion, the High Priestess said, "Under normal circumstances, the summit of the Tower of Babel is the dwelling place of gods. Indeed, not everyone has the determination to arrive there. Only those recognized by the gods can reach that ethereal, elusive peak."
Undoubtedly, the High Priestess was soone acknowledged by the gods.
She asked Carlotta to provide the correct path, wanting to reach the top as quickly as possible. At the sa ti, she was puzzled, unable to understand why Carlotta could exactly locate the summit.
To this, Carlotta didn’t elaborate much.
"So matters are my secrets. Please don’t inquire further. I’ll help you as much as I can."
Carlotta then pointed out the route to the next floor.
The High Priestess didn’t say more. Compared to probing Carlotta’s secrets, she was more eager to reach the summit quickly and understand what she had forgotten. She desperately wanted the answers from the past, especially since an entire world had withered because of it. She didn’t want to forget the process that led to this outco.
Thus, the two began cooperating.
With Carlotta guiding the correct direction, the High Priestess’s speed climbing the tower increased dramatically. Rising rapidly, it wasn’t long before they leapt past the two-hundredth floor and continued ascending.
Floor after floor of the Tower of Babel’s scenery unfolded before their eyes during this process. Regardless of the floor, each was desolate, lacking even a trace of life. The lifeless atmosphere from the outside world completely perated the Tower of Babel.
Due to no obstacles along the way, after so ti, Carlotta and the High Priestess reached the three-hundredth floor.
Inside the vast, boundless desolate space, the High Priestess slowed her steps. She showed a reverent expression, slowly walking forward along the path.
Seeing this, Carlotta followed slowly as well.
Suddenly, surprise appeared in Carlotta’s eyes.
As the High Priestess advanced with a reverent posture, an indescribable fluctuation erged beneath her feet. Wherever she stepped, golden footprints began to form, each radiating light imbued with a sacred sensation.
Initially, the footprints appeared where the High Priestess had walked, but then they advanced one step ahead of her, spreading forward, making it seem as though the High Priestess was stepping precisely onto the footprints’ locations.
After these golden footprints extended a certain distance, they were no longer confined to the ground. Instead, they began ascending, imprinting themselves into the air and continuously rising.
Eventually, the footprints connected to an empty, void-like location.
The High Priestess walked through the air, reaching the end of the footprints. Then she turned back, grabbed Carlotta’s hand, and took one more step forward, thus entering that void-like location in a mysterious manner.
Carlotta felt her vision blurred, and the surroundings instantly changed.
It was like a banquet hall with no lights on. In the dim environnt, a rotting stench spreads out. The furniture visible around was extrely old and decrepit, appearing as if it would completely collapse at the slightest touch.
And indeed, that was exactly what happened.
Carlotta simply took a step, creating a breeze that brushed against a nearby cabinet. The cabinet instantly turned to dust, scattering across the floor.
"How could this be?"
The High Priestess was stunned by the scene before her.
Was this the dwelling place of a god?
Although she had forgotten many things, she still had a clear concept in her heart of what the god’s dwelling roughly looked like. In her mories, a god’s abode was naturally sacred and inviolable, constantly surrounded by holy light, the most noble and magnificent place.
But what was before presented to her now?
Utter decay, desolation beyond asure, how could this be the dwelling place of a god?
"Can you discover anything, milady?"
Carlotta asked the High Priestess.
The High Priestess couldn’t provide any answer. Her expression was dazed as she walked through this vast area, trying to trigger her mories through the decayed surroundings.
Seeing this, Carlotta didn’t want to disturb her. She also began moving around, attempting to find sothing, yet still discovered nothing.
She glanced at her intelligence, only to find another day’s report had arrived.
She and the High Priestess had entered the Tower of Babel, climbing a full three hundred floors. Even though she knew the locations of all the passages, such a long distance still unavoidably consud an entire day.
However, after reviewing the intelligence, Carlotta couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
Today’s intelligence was scarce and mostly worthless, ntioning only how the White Goat faction in World One had encountered this or that, and reporting Trenton’s pursuit of them, along with information on his current whereabouts.
Regarding matters of the gods, or information about past divine wars, did the intelligence refuse to provide anything?
Carlotta felt helpless. In the past, if she wanted intelligence to include certain content, she only needed to continuously engage with that aspect to increase the likelihood of related intelligence appearing.
But now, despite having followed the High Priestess all the way to the god’s dwelling, not a single piece of relevant intelligence appears.
Even if the probability had increased, was it still not enough?
Carlotta couldn’t force such things, so she could only continue focusing her gaze on the High Priestess.
After circling the area, the High Priestess sighed, "I’ve found nothing. Here... nothing remains."
She seed sorrowful.
In the past, the area of this place alone far exceeded what she saw now. But as decay set in and spatial properties dissipated, the space had shrunk, with other aspects deteriorating even further.
"I plan to go and see other worlds."
The High Priestess said seriously.
"Then let’s go."
Carlotta replied.
The two exited the god’s dwelling and began descending, making their way all the way down to floor two hundred and one.
Once again, Carlotta led the way. She directly guided the High Priestess to the vortex on this floor, returning to World One.
Upon arriving in World One, the High Priestess’s eyes revealed a peculiar gleam.
From afar, the roars of massive monsters echoed, shaking the surroundings. Even the air carries a vibrant sense of life.
"Truly unexpected."
The High Priestess murmured, then said to Carlotta, "I won’t stay in this world. I’m going to worlds once ruled by gods."
