Milton Rivers nodded: "Thank you for understanding, Uncle Lancaster."

Ti and again, he bowed his head, humble and courteous, all because nothing could go wrong with The Lancaster Family at their hospital.

Mr. Lancaster changed the topic: "Where is Claire Prescott?"

Ethan Lancaster replied, "Outside."

"Call her in, I want to thank her personally."

Imdiately, Ethan took the initiative to call her.

Milton observed silently from the side, sensing sothing amiss.

He noticed that the whole family referred to her familiarly as Claire, as if they were acquainted.

When she ca in, he didn’t dwell on it, tactfully excusing himself, "Uncle Lancaster, I’ll get back to my other duties."

"Alright."

As he was leaving, Milton couldn’t help but glance at Claire Prescott once more.

He felt a little uneasy.

Let it be.

After all, she was already Keane Lowell’s, and The Lancaster Family wouldn’t and couldn’t ddle.

He should go and scold those useless practitioners in his clinic.

After he left.

Claire Prescott looked calmly at the person on the hospital bed, offering so customary words of concern as a doctor: "How are you feeling now? After eating, does your stomach still feel uncomfortable?"

Mr. Lancaster gave a gentle smile, looking at her warmly: "No, my stomach doesn’t hurt anymore."

Claire Prescott moved closer to him, asking him to give her his hand for a pulse check.

During the pulse diagnosis.

Mr. Lancaster gradually noticed the plain gold ring on her right hand, and his expression darkened slightly — his hair mostly white by now, looking rather weathered.

When Ethan had ntioned wanting an alliance with the Prescott Family through marriage, Mr. Lancaster hadn’t paid much attention, letting them go to Valoria. Even if they hadn’t succeeded in their talks, he didn’t consider it a loss.

But now that he looked.

It was a big loss, and his heart filled with regret.

He glanced at Ethan and couldn’t help but ask Claire Prescott, "Do you have a boyfriend, Claire?"

Claire froze for a mont, following his gaze to the gold ring on her middle finger.

Using her right hand for the pulse check, the ring was in plain sight, indeed conspicuous.

And then she realized she had been busy treating patients all afternoon and had forgotten they were mbers of The Lancaster Family, the ones who wished to ally with The Prescott Family.

She nodded and replied, "Yes, I already have soone I like."

Mr. Lancaster fell silent, pondering her marital status quietly.

The ring on her right middle finger, given she’s from the Prescott Family, ant that if she were engaged, The Lancaster Family would have known. So he figured it was probably just a keepsake between young lovers.

He continued asking, "Which family’s young man caught your eye?"

Claire Prescott answered, "My boyfriend is Keane Lowell."

Her tone was exceptionally frank and clear, with no hint of concealnt.

The Lancaster Family eyes were filled with waves of disbelief as they looked at her.

They were shocked for quite a while.

Mr. Lancaster asked, "Do your family know?"

Claire replied, "They know."

Again, there was a wave of shock, and it seed his breath paused for a second.

"Does the Lowell Family know?"

Seeing him asking so persistently whether both families knew about her and Keane, Claire sensed sothing was amiss, and her pulse rhythm beca a bit unsteady.

"I don’t know."

After saying that, she casually shifted the topic, "Uncle, it’s best if you stay quiet, it’s interfering with checking your pulse."

Upon hearing this.

Mr. Lancaster obediently closed his mouth, his brows furrowing.

After a while.

Claire withdrew her hand and said to him, "Today’s prescription can’t be used again. I’ll co by tomorrow to give you a new one."

"Alright." Mr. Lancaster quickly added, "You saved today. Is there anything you want? I can try my best to fulfill it for you."

Calling her "Uncle" repeatedly, as if truly considering her to be family.

Claire laughed at the word "fulfill," "Your thoughts are appreciated, uncle. Healing patients is our duty as doctors. If you want to thank , just pay my visitation fee."

Hearing this.

Mr. Lancaster was montarily stunned, then chuckled at her wit.

He then instructed Ethan, "Later, when you take Claire back, rember to pay her visitation fee."

Before Ethan could speak, Claire interjected, "No need for Mr. Lancaster to take , I’ll just get a cab back."

"We’re like family, no need to be polite. I didn’t expect us to have such a connection. If you have ti, you and your brother should visit us more often. You didn’t co last ti we invited you."

Claire hesitated on how to decline, finally replying with a polite, "Okay."

"Then you have a good rest, Uncle. I’ll head back now."

Mr. Lancaster gave a deep nod.

The more he looked at her, the more he regretted not pursuing a marriage alliance with the Prescott Family.

However.

Just as Claire walked out of the hospital room, Ethan followed her and called out to her.

The two stood facing each other in the middle of the corridor.

Ethan’s sharp gaze seed capable of seeing through anyone, though he deliberately softened it when looking at her.

He stepped closer to Claire, his voice steady, "Thank you for saving my father today."

"No thanks necessary, your father already thanked ." Claire looked at him calmly, "But I do have a question I’d like to ask you, Mr. Lancaster."

"Go ahead."

"When your father was in critical condition, why did you choose to trust ? Weren’t you afraid I might not be able to treat him, risking his life?"

To anyone, she was just a girl in her early twenties, and plenty doubted her dical skills when they first sought her out.

He had never sought her out before, so why trust her so unreservedly when his father’s life was in danger, even persuading his mother to trust her? It was too unusual.

Seeing her furrowed brow and puzzled expression.

Ethan explained, "When my father was in critical danger this afternoon, I found Professor Hanson. He was abroad with his students for academic exchanges and couldn’t return imdiately, so he recomnded you to ."

Professor Hanson.

He was her university ntor.

Claire suddenly understood.

It wasn’t that Ethan trusted her, but that Professor Hanson did, so there was no need for further doubt.

Ethan complinted, "The fact that Professor Hanson vouched for you shows you are indeed excellent in his eyes."

Claire shook her head.

It was just because, during her graduating year, she and Professor Hanson had debated Elder Lee’s "using poison to attack poison" dical theory in his office all day.

Eventually, Professor Hanson conceded and acknowledged her reasoning.

That night, Professor Hanson went ho and didn’t sleep a wink. The very next day, he pulled her out of another teacher’s class, finally asking her a crucial question: "If faced with a similar acute abdominal crisis, would you dare to treat it like this?"

Back then, her answer was, of course, affirmative.

Claire forced a bitter smile, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now."

With that, she turned and left.

However.

Looking up, she saw a noble and handso figure at the end of the corridor.
