"The new gang that swore loyalty just got wiped out," The other Beta reported, almost sheepishly.
Jael’s brows lifted in surprise. He had been of the opinion that the High Council had called a montary truce as they sched up a new plan to convince Asher.
But then again, this was a no-na gang who had been desperate to enjoy the benefits that ca with being associated with a Mafia House. They were like sewer rats, content to do little dirty jobs in exchange for protection and influence.
It was unlikely that the High Council was the culprit.
"It wasn’t the High Council." The report went on, his subordinate already guessing his thought process, "...but so amateur gang. They didn’t even hide their tracks."
"We were about to send in a report. Should we take out the amateur gang?"
Jael was amused; the wiped-out gang was pretty no-na already. How much smaller was the gang that completely took them out to be called amateurs?
"I’ll handle it," He said instead, walking past to the surprisingly decent apartnt up ahead.
It was the wiped-out gang base of operations, and their ho essentially. It was more decent than most gangs preferred.
There was a carved up gang mber right at the entrance to the apartnt, his death was brutal, it was startling. It made him reorient his thoughts about what could possibly be the rivalry between the two gangs.
Not all the gang mbers were carved up like pigs, so had the more familiar gunshot wounds that were more likely to turn up. The gang mbers who had been butchered seed to have been the work of a single person.
There were more n lingering around the apartnt, open respect and admiration in their eyes as they sighted him.
"Clean up here and return to the club," He handed to them after getting his fill of looking around, heading back out.
The amateur gang that had done this had already been tracked down, and frankly, they weren’t obligated to exact revenge.
If the gangs affiliated with them couldn’t even keep their own skin, then they were completely worthless.
But he was curious, even most well-accomplished gangs downtown didn’t have enemies who held such a deep grudge. He planned to get so answers, he would take this over dealing with whatever Asher had going on.
Jael had no plans to take the fight to the amateur gang, it would be like beating up a couple of kids. He simply planned to ask questions, and if they got antsy and made a move, then they could warm up his guns.
It was a pretty cold afternoon.
He got in his car and drove off, driving deeper into the dilapidated parts of downtown. The completely lawless corners that only those born in the underbelly of Haines dare to step into.
The houses and buildings were all boarded up, and even as he slowly cruised down the potholed street, he caught shadows out of the corners of his eyes behind cracked windows and dingy alleys.
He parked and got out, the house that was his destination was no better off than the houses around. The windows were boarded up, but it seed to be mostly in one piece.
Jael casually walked up to the broken stairs of the house like he was paying a house visit, noting that the eyes that had been trailing him had hastily disappeared when they confird his identity.
He didn’t knock, standing silently like he was waiting for sothing.

Inside the boarded-up house, there was silent chaos.
A young Alpha with striking features was seated on a sunken and torn-up couch in a nondescript room, his expression calm despite the bright fervor in his eyes.
"Rae, Tony confird it, Jael is right outside." A scrawny Beta whispered frantically to the Alpha.
On the other side of the couch, a tatted man was pacing, silently freaking out.
Rae just swept his green eyes over both cowardly n, his gaze cold. "Wasn’t this the goal? What the fuck are you cunts sweating about?"
His coarse words were at odds with his youthful and dazzling features, lips twisted in a sneer.
"What if he’s here to get rid of us?" The Beta’s voice dropped even lower, starting to shiver.
The pacing man cursed explosively, stopping to equally give attention to the calm Alpha on the couch.
"Rae, what are we gonna do?" He asked frenziedly, his fists clenching and unclenching like he was fighting the urge to grasp the Alpha’s slender shoulders to shake him violently.
"Why the fuck are you asking ? We planned this together." He retorted, completely unaffected by their nervous ltdown.
"Yeah, fuck!" The tatted Beta swore, "But it wasn’t supposed to work," He raved, tearing at his unwashed, unbrushed hair. "We weren’t supposed to catch the attention of fucking Jael."
Rae looked away like he was hiding his nerves, but he was instead hiding a pleased smile, looking back at the blubbering n with a composed expression.
"I don’t care what was supposed to happen or not," He said calmly, the direct opposite of the raving and panicking n. "I’m not leaving this fucking couch."
Confusion blood in the eyes of the gang mbers, swirling in their beady eyes alongside fear and desperation.
When Rae brought up the plan that they could go around targeting gangs affiliated with Mafia King Asher to catch their attention and admiration, and to also land a deal with them, they had been in reluctant awe.
It was a dream out of reach - they were bottom feeders, pickpocketing and robbing stores their whole lives to survive. They would rather run than fight - cowards were the vultures who swooped down on the dead bodies of the brave to filch what they could from their cooling, bleeding bodies.
And they were content to be vultures, whatever kept a bullet out of their heads and a blade out of their guts. Until they stumbled into Rae.
The Alpha was slender and pretty, he looked completely out of place. Like a discarded gem in a pile of soot.
He seed innocent and harmless, and was particularly so when he smiled, alluring green eyes softening. But he wasn’t - the Alpha was the devil.
