Angelo quietly walked behind Caspian and Silvia, he wouldn’t have co to this conclusion at any other ti, but he couldn’t help but think that they were a little bit alike.
Ogas were usually easy to spot a mile away, but Caspian was the epito of one. His beauty was delicate and frail, it made others want to protect him, but even with all that, it was clear that he was the one running the mansion.
He lingered at the door to the kitchen, overwheld by the number of people in the large kitchen.
A stern-faced middle-aged woman walked up to them, she was in an apron and slled of spices. "Is sothing the matter, Missus?"
"Could you help pack up so pies and desserts for Angelo?" Caspian requested, not noticing the way he was addressed, completely used to it.
His guests were not as accustod to it, however, having a difficult ti keeping their reactions off their faces.
Katya zeroed in on Angelo, her stern expression breaking into a smile. Her clear bias towards Ogas was sothing she didn’t bother to hide. "Of course, co along, dear." She invited Angelo in, sitting him in a quiet corner.
Angelo’s pale green eyes were grim as he watched Silvia walk away with Caspian, while chatting carefreely.
"Just the pie is fine," He spoke up, not interested in hanging around for too long.
"Are you sure?" Katya asked, "There’s pudding and strawberry mousse."
That was enough to catch and hold Angelo’s attention, he forgot about Silvia for a mont, focusing on the generous cook. "Can I have them all?" He asked tentatively.
"Of course," Katya bead, "I’ll even get you so sugar cookies for the road."
Angelo watched her bustle away, slouching slightly. It was strange, no one had addressed him differently, but he couldn’t help but feel self-conscious about how not like an Oga he was.
Maybe it was because this was the first ti he was treated with the gentleness that was mostly reserved for Ogas, he felt like a bit of an impostor.
He fiddled with his braid, whipping around when he felt soone staring at him. He saw ginger hair peeking in through the kitchen door, beady eyes staring at him.
Angelo relaxed, he rembered the Oga, Rosie. And he could easily guess why she was here. Before he could brace himself for a conversation with her, a familiar figure arrived and dragged her off.
It was Jael. Mafia King Asher’s right-hand man. The Beta hadn’t acted any differently, treating him like they were just eting for the first ti, it didn’t matter either way to Angelo.
He glanced in the direction that Silvia had walked off in, curious. As soon as the nice cook returned, he would go right over to confirm for himself if she was truly playing gas.
Katya didn’t keep him waiting long, returning with a neatly packed bag that slled like sugar and strawberries. "You should find them in the study," She inford him, noting his gaze. "It’s just right behind that door."
"Thank you," Angelo said softly.
"It’s my pleasure..." She started to say, only to be interrupted by soone walking up to her.
Angelo didn’t hang around, starting for the door he had been pointed to with the bag in his hand. He carefully opened the door when he got to it, noting that no one batted an eyelid at his presence.
Silvia and Caspian were inside the room as he had been told, they were seated behind a desk, focused on the laptop on the desk. And if he hadn’t seen it himself, he wouldn’t have believed it if soone else told him.
Angelo walked over with his precious bag of treats, disbelief in his eyes as he watched Silvia casually play like she had done it so many tis.
Caspian was so excited by her prowess that he was on his feet cheering her on. He mostly played MOBA and FPS gas, so he was no good at puzzles.
Soon, the study was crowded, Asher and Jael wearing various looks of shock and disbelief, while Rosie was just as pumped up as Caspian.
Patty didn’t join the noisy crowd, going over to stand beside Angelo, who was a safe distance away, quietly observing the scene.
"I unplugged the laptop," She leaned close to whisper to him.
Angelo slowly turned to the Beta, who struck him as timid, stunned speechless.
"You want to go ho, don’t you?" Patty kept up the conversation, "The laptop should die soon."
"I see," He muttered, fresh out of what else to say to her.
Angelo didn’t doubt the quiet Beta’s solemnly spoken words, but a few monts after she told him what she did, the laptop screen went blank.
There was complete silence in the room before Asher high-fived Jael. "My streak remains unbeaten," He bragged, grinning.
"The laptop died," Caspian defended, "It doesn’t count."
Asher pulled him into his arms, "Wrong. You’re supposed to take your mate’s side."
Silvia rose to her feet, her smile serene. She had never had this, the fullness that ca from being around so many people who cared about her.
Growing up as an orphan downtown ant that she had to fight tooth and nails for whatever she wanted. Nothing was given freely on a platter, especially not friendly company.
"We’ll have to reschedule today’s competition then," She decided.
Rosie was already nodding, she was no good at the ga, but she would cheer on anyone who could beat Jael. Mafia King Asher was collateral damage.
"Yes, let’s- mmph..." Caspian was about to agree before he was cut off by a kiss, Asher turning his back to the room to keep everyone’s eyes off his mate.
"We’ll take our leave then," Silvia said dryly, approaching Angelo. "Thanks again for having us over for dinner."
"It was a pleasure," Caspian broke free of his mate to reply, his face flushed a soft red. "Do co again."
Silvia was very tempted to, for a few hours tonight, she had forgotten about all that she had to deal with, it was a nice break. But she made no promises, following after Jael, who offered to lead them out.
"Thanks, Jael." Angelo murmured when they got outside the mansion.
Jael was surprised by this address, but he said nothing to it, staying outside until they were well out of the gates before returning to the warm, lively mansion.
