Davian shook his hand off after shaking the exec he couldn’t care to rember the na of, disliking how he had been staring at Lake; he moved closer to the Oga as a group of guests spotted him.
Lake stood quietly at Davian’s side while the group of executives tried to curry his favor. Davian’s reaction to them, reminded him of just how cold and forbidding the Alpha could be.
He had gotten so used to the warm, defanged version of Davian that he forgot that the Alpha could be this cold and intimidating.
He stiffened when the conversation quickly shifted to him as Davian was giving them nothing to work with.
"What a surprise for you to bring a partner to the festival this ti..." A scantily dressed Beta sidled closer to him. "Do I know him..."
She trailed off on her last word, staring at Lake like she had seen a ghost when she got close enough to catch a whiff of his scent, her horrified expression dropping to his neck.
Davian put himself in between them, his disapproval loud on his face. "You don’t." He said bluntly, walking away right in the middle of their conversation.
They didn’t go very far before they had to speak to another group so Lake could still hear the conversation the past group were having after they left.
"That male Oga," The lady that had addressed him was saying, "He’s pregnant and mated..."
"He is?" Another voice chid in, disbelief dripping down his voice.
"How many glasses have you had to drink, Marie?" Soone else accused.
"Less than you have," Marie bit back viciously, "But I’m being serious, I saw and slled him."
"Mafia King Davian wouldn’t bring soone else’s pregnant mate, would he?"
"So that’s his mate?"
They moved on then so Lake couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation but he didn’t have to because the next group they left practically repeated the sa conversation.
"Do you want to have a seat?" Davian turned to him.
Lake considered it, he really didn’t want to walk around the entire festival grounds with Davian, but he also didn’t want the Alpha out of his sight. He had to settle for one though.
"I don’t mind," He replied, wincing when one of the rotating lights attached to poles situated all over flashed in his eyes.
The festival was too loud, too bright, too much. He missed the quiet of the mansion.
Davian quickly led the way to a nearby tiki bar, "How about sothing to drink?"
Lake really liked being the sole focus of Davian’s attention while the entire festival grounds clambered to have even just a mont with him.
"As long as it’s not fizzy wine," He said with a soft smile, the wind blowing through his hair.
Davian wouldn’t make that mistake even if he was blackout drunk, ordering a chocolate mocktail without bothering to ask Lake, already knowing what he would like.
"Will you sit here while I go socialize?" He suggested, saying the word ’socialize’ with a grimace.
The tiki bar had an ample view of the festivities while providing so respite, if he tried really hard, he could probably keep an eye on Davian the entire ti.
"Let’s have a drink together when you’re done," Lake agreed, getting comfortable on his stool.
There was only one person at the tiki bar other than the bartender and they seed to already be passed out drunk.
Davian had a familiar glint of determination in his eyes, "Sure. Call if you need anything," He reminded, lingering for as long as he could.
Lake didn’t urge him to leave, they had the entire night to spend at the festival, after all. It was just that the sooner Davian got his duties out of the way, the sooner they could leave.
The Alpha eventually left, reluctantly making his way over to a nearby group of executives who had been eyeing their interaction the entire ti.
Lake just slowly sipped his mocktail, wondering if he could have another one or five before Davian returned.
It wasn’t like he could get drunk off the mocktails, that much sugar wasn’t healthier either though.
He looked through the nu as he sipped sparingly on his drink, maybe he could find sothing else that wasn’t as packed with sugar to keep him occupied while he waited for Davian.
As he browsed through the nu, he felt soone tap him on the shoulder, making him glance at them.
"Do you work here?" A pretty Oga asked flippantly, and without giving him a chance to respond, went right on to make her order.
"I’d like a glass of dry white wine, Sauvignon Blanc." She spoke impatiently like she was in a hurry.
Lake just silently studied her, she looked familiar in a way that he couldn’t place, wondering where he had seen her before.
He then glanced at the tiki bar in hopes of figuring out how she had co to that conclusion, only to find it unmanned, the barista wandered off sowhere.
"Did you not hear ?" She doubled down, starting to get irritated.
Lake couldn’t see how she could make such a mistake considering how he was dressed but he let it slide anyway. "I don’t work at this bar stand," He humored her, "The bartender wandered off sowhere."
"It’s just pouring so wine, can’t you do it?" She insisted, displeasure in her dark eyes.
Now Lake was starting to get a bit ticked off but before he could respond the uniford bartender hurried back, bowing in apology.
"I apologize, Lady Blackburn, please what will you have?" He asked, eager to please.
That soothed the Oga’s ego and she slid into the booth to repeat her order.
Hearing the Oga’s na didn’t help Lake place where he had seen her face but with a title like that, she was probably a celebrity or an heiress, or both.
He might have seen her on a billboard or on the television a couple of tis.
Seeing as he was no longer dealing with a case of mistaken identity, he refocused on the nu in front of him.
