"What do you an?" Wren Wynter asked, confused.

But just as she finished speaking, the children, seeing the car wasn’t stopping, flew into a rage. They began grabbing stones from the ground and throwing them at the vehicle.

Director Archer didn’t answer. Clearly used to this, he deftly grabbed a flag that was prepared in the car and mounted it.

Once they saw the flag’s insignia, the children imdiately stopped, standing resentfully by the roadside and muttering curses.

Director Archer glanced at Wren Wynter in the rearview mirror, his round face filled with unconcealed scorn. "See that? There’s your answer."

With that, he stepped on the gas and sped away.

Wren Wynter understood. The Doctors Without Borders logo had worked, becoming their biggest shield for the mont.

"You’ll get used to it," Shaun Quinn said in a low voice.

"Mm," Wren Wynter nodded.

After a long, bumpy ride over terrible roads, they finally arrived at the base camp.

Wren Wynter stepped out of the car, her face pale. A curvaceous Aferian woman rushed toward them.

"Director... Director Archer, more people have arrived!" she said to Director Archer in broken Mandarin.

Director Archer nodded. "Got it. I’ll handle it."

Then, he pointed to Wren Wynter and Shaun Quinn. "These two are new. Take them over; we can use the extra hands."

"Okay." The woman’s gaze fell on Wren Wynter, then shifted to Shaun Quinn.

She couldn’t hide her astonishnt at their good looks.

Director Archer urged, "Catherine, what are you waiting for?"

Catherine pulled her gaze away. "You two, please follow ."

Catherine led Wren Wynter and Shaun Quinn straight into the treatnt area. The groans of the wounded from all sides stung Wren’s ears.

"A dozen or so wounded just ca in from the front lines. They’re all severely injured, and we’re short-staffed. We need doctors to use all their skills and cover multiple areas, even if it’s not their specialty. Are you ready?"

Catherine’s expression had turned professional and serious. "You need to adapt quickly here and start treating patients. Most importantly, the dical conditions here are limited, nothing like the hospitals you’ve worked in before. No matter what discomforts you face, big or small, you must find a way to adjust."

The primitive conditions and the sheer number of injured people in her sight fully awakened the physician’s compassion within Wren.

She nodded firmly in agreent with Catherine’s instructions.

"We’ll do our best."

Catherine’s expression softened slightly. "Thank you for coming. I’ve already reviewed your work histories. You’re both experienced doctors. Is it okay to start right away?"

Wren Wynter and Shaun Quinn exchanged a look, a mutual understanding passing between them. They answered in unison.

"Yes."

Catherine led them to a tent.

Flipping open the flap and stepping inside, the sight made Wren’s pupils contract sharply.

The tent was filled with groaning patients, and she had to take a quiet, deep breath to suppress the numbness creeping into her mind.

These wounded had just been brought from the battlefield. So were missing limbs, so had gaping holes blown into their chests, and others were clearly breathing their last, unable to even make a sound...

And the environnt before her... there wasn’t even a single sterile operating room.

Wren pushed the limits of her ntal fortitude, forcing herself to calm down. Only then could she give the patients the confidence and reassurance they needed for their treatnt.

"The tools are over there. As I said, dical supplies are limited. I’ll give you a quick tour, then you can get started."

Catherine’s voice was filled with sorrow.

These were the warriors of her holand, but because of the war, so many of them now lay here.

So went to the battlefield and never ca back.

Wren blinked back the tears welling in her clear eyes and followed Catherine to the tool station.

Shaun Quinn stood silently beside her, understanding her internal struggle and transformation. He was about to offer a word of encouragent, but she cut him off.

"Shaun, this is going to be a tough fight. But we can do this!"

Shaun Quinn: "Yeah."

"I’m more certain than ever that coming here was the right decision!"

Wren straightened her back, her eyes behind the mask shining with bright resolve.

She was ready to fight Death himself.

And she was determined to use her own strength to save more people!

「anwhile, at Capital View Gardens.」

Kaden Xavier stood at the door, hesitating for a long mont before finally ringing the bell.

Wren had said they should each find their own happiness after the divorce, but he couldn’t bring himself to let her go completely.

Butler Chandler ca out when he heard the doorbell. The smile on his face vanished the mont he saw Kaden Xavier.

"Mr. Xavier, can I help you with sothing?"

"Is Wren here? I’m looking for her."

"Our young miss has gone on a long trip."

Kaden Xavier was clearly skeptical. "A long trip? By herself?"

"Yes."

"Where did she go? When will she be back?"

"Miss Wynter didn’t say, and it’s not our place as servants to ask. Please leave, Mr. Xavier."

Hearing the dismissal, Kaden Xavier assud Butler Chandler was just putting on an act. "Uncle Chandler, tell Wren to co out. I know she’s in there."

Thinking about how Wren had gone to such a faraway place all by herself—thanks in no small part to the man before him—Butler Chandler’s face filled with displeasure. He pulled the door wide open.

"Miss Wynter is not here. If you don’t believe , Mr. Xavier, you can co in and see for yourself."

Kaden Xavier stepped inside without hesitation. He ended up searching all of View Gardens but couldn’t find a trace of Wren.

’Is she really not here?’

Rembering she had once said she would leave for good, a flash of panic went through Kaden Xavier.

But reason quickly returned, and he dismissed the thought.

’She wouldn’t actually leave.’

’If she’s not at ho, then she must be at the hospital!’

He slamd on the accelerator and sped toward City First Hospital.

He burst into the duty office in a fury, only to run right into Mason Shaw, who was just about to leave.

Mason Shaw stopped instinctively. He hadn’t intended to make an issue of it, but when he saw that it was Kaden Xavier, he couldn’t resist the urge to give him a hard ti.

The corner of his eye twitched. He crossed his arms, adopting a confrontational stance.

"Mr. Xavier, in such a rush. Don’t tell you’re here to see Dr. Wynter?"

Kaden Xavier’s face darkened, and his voice involuntarily turned cold. "Do you know where she is?"

Mason Shaw’s handso face blood into a mocking smile.

’Now you’re worried?’

’Where were you before?!’

"What if I do? What if I don’t?"

Kaden Xavier could see he was deliberately trying to pick a fight. His face grew grim. "A good dog doesn’t block the path. The hospital’s right here. I’ll find her myself."

Mason Shaw’s smirk deepened. "Find her? Surely Mr. Xavier doesn’t think Wren is at the hospital?"

Hearing the hidden aning in his words, Kaden Xavier stopped in his tracks and shot back, "Where did she go?"

Mason Shaw scoffed. "Kaden Xavier, in what capacity are you asking about her whereabouts? As her ex-husband? Or as a stranger?"

Kaden Xavier was left speechless. "It’s none of your business."

"Oh? Then it’s only natural that I don’t answer," Mason Shaw said, making a move to leave, but his words were still sharp.

"If you don’t cherish her, soone else will. You’ve already lost that right."

"What did you say?!"

Kaden Xavier lunged forward to block his path, grabbing Mason Shaw by the collar.

Lifting his chin slightly to et Kaden’s furious gaze, Mason Shaw’s smile grew even more derisive. "Are your ears just for decoration, Mr. Xavier? You couldn’t hear from this close?"
