Zane Langley was worried, but Wren Wynter was adamant, so he had no choice but to leave.

He decided to watch from a distance and follow her after she got into her car safely.

Her ride wouldn’t be there for a while, so Wren Wynter waited calmly by the side of the road.

It was the evening rush hour, and traffic was backed up on the overpass.

Wren Wynter pulled on her mask and glanced down at her sneakers, inwardly chuckling at how she still looked like a student.

’No wonder Zane Langley mistook her for an underclassman when they first t.’

"Who are you trying to fool? Everyone knows your family’s rich. Think you’re all that just ’cause you ca back from abroad? Look at all that fancy stuff you’re wearing. Why don’t you just give it to us?"

Suddenly, Wren Wynter heard a jeering voice from nearby.

She frowned.

’Punks, right at the gates of A University?’

’Doesn’t security do anything?’

She turned to look and was instantly stunned.

A group of n in loafers and skinny pants had Lana Xavier surrounded.

The leader, Blondie, was even reaching out to pinch Lana Xavier’s cheek.

Lana Xavier had on heavy, smoky eye makeup and a little black dress. Gold and silver glittered on her neck and wrists, an ostentatious display.

’When did Lana Xavier’s taste get this bad? She’s dressed like a cheap gangster’s girlfriend.’

Lana Xavier looked terrified.

She took off her jewelry and stuffed it all into the lead punk’s hand.

The punk pocketed the jewelry with satisfaction, a lecherous grin spreading across his face.

He closed in on Lana Xavier. His bony fingers lifted her hair as he gripped the nape of her neck with his other hand, leaning in close.

Wren Wynter hadn’t wanted to get involved. ’This is Lana Xavier’s problem, after all.’

’If I ddle, she’ll probably turn around and bla for it later.’

’For all I know, maybe these are her new friends since she ca back.’

But as Wren Wynter stood to the side, the more she listened, the more wrong it all felt. Her brows furrowed, and the hands hanging at her sides clenched into tight fists.

"Lana, why don’t you co with tonight instead of going ho? I’ll take you sowhere nice, show you a good ti, huh?"

Lana Xavier’s face was deathly pale. She shook her head frantically, pressing her hands against Blondie’s chest to keep him at bay.

Her resistance made Blondie lose face. His expression darkened, and he slapped Lana Xavier across the cheek.

"Don’t be an ungrateful bitch! It’s your lucky day that I’ve taken an interest in you. We’re all just out here to have fun, so stop acting so pure. You’re coming with today whether you like it or not! Drag her away!"

At a wave from Blondie, his cronies imdiately surrounded Lana Xavier, grabbing her by the arms to drag her off.

Perhaps because Wren Wynter was wearing a mask, Lana Xavier didn’t notice her. She just shook her head frantically, crying for help and refusing to go.

"Help! I don’t want to go! Please, soone save !"

"I’d like to see who dares save you! Anyone who tries, I’ll break their legs!" Blondie shouted, his arrogance boundless. "My big brother is a police captain. You think anyone dares to cross ?"

Hearing this, the onlookers who had looked ready to intervene quickly changed their minds.

They were just ordinary citizens; they wouldn’t dare cross the brother of a police captain.

"Please, I’m begging you! I don’t want to go! Just let go, and I’ll give you as much money as you want."

"Once I’ve had you, I can get any amount of money I want, right? HAHAHA!" Blondie laughed maniacally.

In the end, Wren Wynter couldn’t just stand by. She picked up a rock from the ground and threw it at Blondie’s head.

"Who?! Who the hell hit ?!"

"Let her go," Wren Wynter said calmly. "If you plan on sticking around The Capital, I’d advise you to release her."

This was Wren Wynter’s version of a friendly reminder.

Lana Xavier was the apple of the Xavier Family’s eye. If anything happened to her, forget Kaden Xavier—her parents alone would make sure these punks lost a few limbs.

Seeing soone ddling, Blondie got pissed. He rolled up his sleeves and stalked toward Wren Wynter.

Unfazed, Wren Wynter simply held up her phone and gave it a little shake. "I’ve already called the police," she said calmly.

"Boss, she called the cops! Maybe we should scram."

Hearing that Wren had called the police, one of the cronies tensed up, his grip on Lana loosening out of subconscious fear.

Seeing her chance, Lana Xavier struggled free and scrambled behind Wren Wynter, clutching her clothes in terror.

"What the hell are you afraid of? My brother’s a police captain! So what if this bitch called the cops? I’m not scared. When my big brother gets here, we’ll see if she’s still smiling."

Blondie patted his chest confidently and strode toward Wren Wynter and Lana Xavier.

Lana Xavier flinched. Afraid Wren Wynter would abandon her, she tugged repeatedly on her clothes and stamred in a trembling voice.

"Save , please! If you save , I can give you lots and lots of money!"

"Lana Xavier, aren’t you usually so headstrong at ho? Where’s that spoiled little princess attitude now? Hm?"

Wren Wynter glanced back at Lana Xavier and took off her mask.

Lana Xavier froze, then gasped, "Wren Wynter! It’s you! Your face... that scar..."

Wren Wynter said nonchalantly, "Just a scratch. My, my, the great heiress of the Xavier Group, frightened to this state by a few street punks. If Kaden Xavier found out, I’m sure he’d be disgusted by how you’re embarrassing him."

"I... I wasn’t..."

Wren Wynter turned back around.

The hideous scar on her face startled Blondie, who cried out, "Ugh, what an ugly woman! Hand over the chick behind you, and I’ll forget this ever happened."

"And if I don’t?"

"You won’t? Then I’ll break your legs!"

Blondie snatched an iron pipe from one of his cronies and swung it at Wren Wynter.

Wren Wynter’s expression hardened. She pulled Lana Xavier back, and the iron pipe smashed onto the ground with a loud CLANG.

Lana Xavier shrieked.

The shriek hurt Wren Wynter’s ears. She whipped her head around and roared at Lana Xavier, "Shut up!"

Lana imdiately fell silent.

"Ms. Wynter!" Zane Langley shouted, running out from the shadows.

He knew it wasn’t safe; it was a good thing he hadn’t actually left.

"Zane Langley?! Why are you still here?"

"Ms. Wynter, I’m glad I didn’t go. If sothing had happened to you, I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself."

Zane Langley stepped in front of the two won, shielding them. His sharp gaze swept over Blondie and his cronies. "Get lost!"

"Oh-ho? You dare try to be a hero?" Blondie sneered. "Get him! If there’s any trouble, I’ll cover for you!"

The cronies picked up their iron pipes and rushed toward Zane and the two won.

Zane Langley was unard, but he didn’t show the slightest hint of fear. "Ms. Wynter, you two go on ahead! I’ve got this!"
