"Sigh... If only he’d known then what he knows now," Butler Chandler lanted.
But Kaden Xavier’s silence was his only response.
He stubbornly held the lunchbox, his gaze fixed on the villa’s staircase, hoping to see her slender figure appear.
Butler Chandler followed his gaze and was about to speak when his eyes landed on Kaden’s hands.
His fingers were covered in bandages.
’Was it from making a nutritious al for her?’
Much of Butler Chandler’s anger subsided.
He heaved a long sigh, turned, closed the door, and went back to his room.
It was already the wee hours of the morning by the ti Wren Wynter finished reviewing all the dical files.
She stretched and prepared to rest.
Suddenly, as if drawn by so unseen force, she walked to the window and saw Kaden Xavier was actually still standing by the door. The ground around him was littered with cigarette butts.
Wren Wynter’s expression faltered for a mont, and she pressed her throbbing temples.
After a long while, she threw on a coat, went downstairs, and opened the door. "Are you standing out here trying to get my sympathy?"
"No, I just wanted to..."
"Go ho. I told you, until we find the culprit, I won’t see you again."
"I’m not leaving."
Wren was bewildered by this move of his. "What do you think you’re doing here? Do you want everyone to know our business?"
’She was starting to suspect Kaden Xavier was incapable of understanding plain language.’
"No, I just want to see you."
Wren let out a soft laugh. "Well, you’ve seen , haven’t you? If there’s nothing else, hurry up and leave. Don’t make get a broom to chase you away."
"Don’t worry, I won’t bother you. I just want to be a little closer to you." Kaden Xavier stared intently into her eyes, which held neither love nor hate for him.
"Suit yourself." Wren gave a slight, dismissive smile, not bothering to argue further. She pulled her coat tighter and entered the villa without a backward glance.
’She didn’t believe for a second that Kaden Xavier’s current behavior ant he had fallen in love with her.’
’It was purely a case of him being unused to a woman who once loved him suddenly not loving him anymore. That, combined with a man’s possessiveness, was what drove him to these actions that disrupted her life.’
Back in her room, Wren sent a text ssage to Hugh Hale.
Upon receiving it, Hugh Hale screenshotted the text—which read, "Tell Kaden Xavier to stop harassing , or I’ll sue him for being a stalker fan"—and forwarded it to Kaden Xavier.
When Kaden Xavier saw it, the corner of his lip curled up.
’Wren was still the sa old Wren. She looked gentle and soft, but when her heart hardened, no one could do anything about it.’
...
The next morning, when Wren went downstairs for breakfast, she found the lunchbox Kaden Xavier had been holding yesterday sitting on the table.
She thought Butler Chandler had let Kaden Xavier in.
"Uncle Chandler!"
"Miss Wren, what is it?" Butler Chandler hurried over at the sound of her voice. He saw her staring at the lunchbox on the table and frowning as she asked him, "Did you let Kaden Xavier in?"
"No, Miss Wren. I saw the lunchbox when I went out this morning. It was just left at the door, but Mr. Xavier wasn’t there."
’Hah, she knew it. How could he possibly have the perseverance to stand downstairs all night? He probably waited for her to go to sleep and then rushed off to find his precious long-lost love.’
"Throw it away. I don’t want to see it."
"Yes."
Butler Chandler stepped forward, took the lunchbox, and threw it into the kitchen trash can.
After breakfast, Wren left View Gardens in a calm and unhurried manner.
「The Hospital.」
"Kaden, how are you?" Seraphina Sutton ran into the hospital room, her face etched with worry.
Nathaniel Quinn followed closely behind her.
When Kaden Xavier saw Seraphina Sutton, his brow furrowed instinctively. "Who told you to co here?"
"I... Kaden, I heard you were sick. I was worried, so I ca to see you..."
"That’s not necessary. Assistant Lynch, take Miss Sutton to the office," Kaden Xavier commanded coldly.
"Yes, sir." Assistant Lynch stepped forward, positioning himself between Seraphina Sutton and Kaden Xavier, a signature smile on his face.
Seraphina Sutton wasn’t ready to give up. She was about to play the victim and plead with Kaden Xavier.
’She really didn’t want to be a janitor anymore. Every day, she had to clean the entire company under the scornful gazes of her forr colleagues, even suffering their insults.’
’She used to be a flight attendant, for crying out loud! How could they treat her like this!’
"Kaden, I..."
"Get out." Kaden Xavier’s tone was firm. He wouldn’t even spare Seraphina Sutton a glance, sitting on the bed with his eyes shut tight.
"Miss Sutton, if you please," Assistant Lynch said.
Though unwilling, Seraphina Sutton didn’t dare to provoke Kaden Xavier at a ti like this. She could only follow Assistant Lynch out of the room in embarrassnt.
Nathaniel Quinn ca in and sat right down on the edge of Kaden Xavier’s bed. His voice was laced with helplessness. "Cole, Seraphina is our good friend, after all. Isn’t it unfair for you to treat her like this?"
"What? Are you going to speak up for her too?" Kaden Xavier demanded sharply.
"I just don’t think it’s right."
"I’ve already done more than enough by arranging a job for her. If she keeps causing trouble, don’t bla for being rciless." A flicker of disgust crossed Kaden Xavier’s eyes.
’Ever since he found out about the rampant misunderstandings regarding his relationship with Seraphina Sutton, he’d felt disgusted, and his aversion to her had only grown.’
Nathaniel Quinn sighed. "Alright. But Cole, how did you manage to land yourself in the hospital? Did sothing happen at the company again?"
Kaden Xavier replied, "No."
"It’s just simple overexertion. Nothing serious, really," Ho-ran Park said as he walked into the room.
Nathaniel Quinn shot to his feet. "You’re a doctor! How can you be so dismissive of a patient? I’m going to file a complaint against you!"
"Nathaniel."
"Go ahead and file your complaint. My contract here is almost up anyway." Ho-ran Park glanced down at the dical chart, walked over to Kaden Xavier, and checked his IV drip.
Nathaniel Quinn was about to retort but was held back by Kaden Xavier. "Thank you, Dr. Park."
Ho-ran Park glanced at Kaden Xavier, then calmly removed the needle and stopped the bleeding on the back of his hand.
"It was just a slight fever, and you exposed yourself to the wind last night before you were better, which is why you collapsed. Your fever has broken now. You can go to the front desk and handle the discharge procedures."
"Okay. Nathaniel, go take care of it for ." Kaden Xavier sent Nathaniel Quinn away.
Ho-ran Park watched Nathaniel Quinn’s departing back and said, "You sent him away on purpose. Did you think I’d show you favoritism because of him? You’re really overthinking it. I..."
"No, I just don’t want him to know too much." Kaden Xavier looked at him and suddenly asked in all seriousness, "What does Wren like most?"
Ho-ran Park froze for a second, then said sarcastically, "Is Mr. Xavier trying to tell a bad joke this early in the morning?"
Kaden Xavier’s brow twitched, and his hand unconsciously clenched into a fist.
"Pardon my bluntness, but you were married to Wren for three years and you never even figured out what she likes. In that case, you shouldn’t try to force it. Just let my little junior sister go sooner rather than later. Everyone can go their separate ways and part on good terms."
Kaden Xavier said, "I never thought about divorcing her. She was the one who suggested it."
"And you don’t know why she wanted to divorce you? Neglecting your own wife to go take care of soone else’s woman—did you think that made you so kind of saint?"
’To this day, Ho-ran Park still rembered eting Wren Wynter again. She was lying in a hospital bed, the tears still glistening at the corners of her eyes.’
’But Kaden Xavier hadn’t shown a shred of concern. Instead, he had been aggressive and overbearing toward her.’
’The re thought of it made his blood boil.’
"Mr. Xavier, not everything can be started over from the beginning."
