"Bei Ran..." Zhuo Yufeng called out to her, "Are you asleep?"

"Mhm..." Bei Ran mumbled a reply, slightly intoxicated after drinking a few extra glasses of wine, leaning against the passenger seat next to Zhuo Yufeng. She had fallen asleep on the way back.

Zhuo Yufeng pressed the control button for the car window and then looked towards the man under the streetlight at the entrance!

The man under the streetlight, aloof and extraordinary, watched the familiar car that had co to a stop, a half-smoked cigarette still in his hand. The bright light only served to accentuate his cold, otherworldly deanor.

Gu Qingchen had been waiting at the door for Bei Ran to return. Even though he knew she had been with Zhuo Yufeng, he still hoped he would be the first to see her if she ever got hurt.

When he saw Zhuo Yufeng’s car, he stubbed out his cigarette and strode over.

Zhuo Yufeng also got out of the car, "She drank a bit too much and is sowhat inebriated!"

Gu Qingchen nodded, then opened the right-side car door and reached out to carry Bei Ran back in his arms.

Bei Ran nestled quietly in his embrace, not saying a word.

Zhuo Yufeng drove away, vanishing into the night.

Gu Qingchen looked at Bei Ran in his arms; she was sleeping soundly, exuding an air of sweetness.

He carried her to the car, then laid her down in the back seat as he drove ho.

By the ti they got ho, it was very late.

As he carried her back to her room, she stirred in his embrace, "Qingchen..."

"I’m here!" Gu Qingchen looked at her.

Bei Ran opened her eyes, then gazed at him: "Don’t worry about , I’m alright!"

Gu Qingchen didn’t speak, but out of habit, he reached into his coat pocket for a cigarette. His coat was on Bei Ran, so he stretched his hand, took out the cigarette, and lit it in silence.

"Are you angry with for going to see Yufeng?" Bei Ran’s bright eyes widened as she clung to him, both ascending to the rooftop together.

She brewed a pot of tea, and the pair sat down together. Amidst the autumn night, the fragrance of Yulan dicine was fresh and enchanting. White petals fluttered down around them, carried by the wind.

Gu Qingchen smoked in silence, his slender fingers holding the half-smoked cigarette. He was indeed worried about her.

Bei Ran placed a cup of tea before him while sitting across from him, gently sipped her tea, and intently watched him: "I’m not indifferent; it’s not that you aren’t important to . Yufeng is my childhood friend, and you are the man I love most in my life!"

Gu Qingchen’s smoke-free hand held hers, "Bei Ran, you should understand why I don’t want you to go see Zhuo Yufeng, right?"

"I understand. You don’t want to get involved in this case. You don’t want to be in danger!" Bei Ran understood; she was indeed clever. How could she not perceive his well-ant intentions? At that mont, her hand tightly gripped his larger one, "Do you really think I’d let you continue living in the pain of your past? I didn’t partake in your past, but I will surely be in your present and future!"

In that mont, with their fingers interlocked, their interaction had always been void of romantic exchanges, leading a mundane dostic life instead.

But no matter how ordinary it was, having her in his present and future is a romantic life in itself.

"Yet, I’m still a man. Even if you really have a sibling-like relationship with Zhuo Yufeng, I would still be jealous," Gu Qingchen openly declared his possessiveness toward her.

Bei Ran laughed, "Look how generous I am. I’ve never been jealous of you!"

"That’s because you don’t care enough about !" Gu Qingchen huffed.

No, it was because she knew that his heart harbored soone else.

Such a man wouldn’t easily fall for any woman, so Bei Ran never worried about entanglents with other won.

Bei Ran chuckled, her delicate hands gently lifting the white jade teacup, slowly savoring a sip. She wasn’t fussy about tea, but Gu Qingchen liked it, and over ti she too had beco influenced by the tea culture.

Tea can soothe the mind; it represents an upright and pure state of heart.

"I’ve always thought that n who drink tea should be calm and composed," Bei Ran observed him closely.

Gu Qingchen curved his lips slightly: "I also thought I was a calm and composed man, but I never expected that four years of marriage would turn back into a man with passion!"
