After hanging up the phone, Chu Feng inford He Zhen and asked An Rongrong to stay with the elders, as he himself went to deal with the flu outbreak.
"Drive carefully," An Rongrong cautioned Chu Feng.
Chu Feng said, "I’ll be careful. You chat with my brother and sister-in-law for a bit, and we’ll co back for lunch at noon."
Chu Feng arrived quickly at East River’s First People’s Hospital.
By the ti Chu Feng reached the hospital, the fever clinic was completely overwheld with patients.
"I’m sorry, you cannot enter. This area has been declared off-limits. If you need dical attention, please go to another hospital," a mber of the ard police blocked Chu Feng at the entrance as he tried to proceed.
"A military restricted area?" Chu Feng furrowed his brows, wondering what a flu outbreak had to do with a military restricted area.
Standing at the entrance, Chu Feng made a phone call to He Jianguo, and soon, He Jianguo’s secretary Liu Wenqing ran out, sweating profusely.
"Secretary Liu, happy new year," Chu Feng greeted with a smile.
Liu Wenqing barely had ti to return the greeting and imdiately started pulling Chu Feng inside at a run.
"What exactly happened?" Chu Feng inquired, frowning.
Panting, Liu Wenqing said as they ran, "Secretary He has been infected too, and the situation is extrely critical. Only you, Young Master Chu, can save Secretary He now."
Seeing the urgency in Liu Wenqing’s bearing, Chu Feng realized the severity of the situation and hurriedly followed Liu Wenqing upstairs without delay.
Upon reaching the top floor, Chu Feng saw that the entire level was completely sealed off.
Doctors, nurses, as well as security personnel, were all dressed in biochemical hazard suits.
"Young Master Chu, would you please change into a protective suit?" Liu Wenqing, already suited up, urged Chu Feng.
Chu Feng responded, "I don’t need to, let’s go straight to see Jianguo."
With Spiritual Energy as his shield, if even Chu Feng were to be infected by the bacteria, then there wouldn’t be many on Earth who could survive.
"No, you cannot enter without wearing a protective suit; otherwise, you will also be quarantined," the doctor in charge of the protective suits said adamantly.
Liu Wenqing suggested, "Young Master Chu, better to change into it for safety."
Not wanting to cause trouble for Liu Wenqing, Chu Feng complied and donned the protective suit.
After changing, Chu Feng, accompanied by Liu Wenqing, entered the so-called ’epidemic zone’.
The rooms here were already completely full; Chu Feng roughly estimated that there were at least two hundred patients.
All of them had pallid complexions, coughing nonstop, and occasionally showing signs of asthma.
The staff in charge disinfected the entire area every ten minutes, as if facing a formidable enemy.
Chu Feng and Liu Wenqing quickly found He Jianguo, who was lying on a bed, his breathing weak.
He Jianguo had a room to himself, not only because of his status as the City Party Secretary of Jianguo City but also because he was the most critically ill.
Upon entering He Jianguo’s room, Chu Feng imdiately removed his protective suit.
Wearing such a thing made Chu Feng feel uncomfortable and would interfere with his diagnosis and treatnt.
Liu Wenqing, aware of Chu Feng’s capabilities, did not interfere when he saw Chu Feng remove the protective suit.
He Jianguo had already lost consciousness. Chu Feng took his pulse and found it to be extrely weak, almost imperceptible.
Chu Feng decisively administered acupuncture to He Jianguo to save his life before considering anything else.
After ten minutes, He Jianguo, whose body was now full of silver needles, was finally out of mortal danger.
"Secretary Liu, what exactly is going on?" After ensuring He Jianguo was stable, Chu Feng finally had a chance to inquire about the situation.
Liu Wenqing explained, "We aren’t sure ourselves what’s happening. It started as an outbreak of an unidentified flu, but unexpectedly, it turned out to be highly contagious, almost like a biological weapon. Moreover, as ti goes by, the virus seems to induce symptoms faster. Secretary He ca here to inspect the situation, but just after his arrival, he was infected within less than an hour, and his condition is very severe."
"When did Jianguo lose consciousness?" asked Chu Feng.
Liu Wenqing replied, "Ten minutes ago."
Chu Feng’s brow furrowed upon hearing Liu Wenqing’s words.
Half an hour ago, Chu Feng received a call from He Jianguo, who was fine at the ti. In just half an hour, He Jianguo beca so ill that he was close to death. This was not so flu; it was practically poison.
Liu Wenqing continued, "Before collapsing, Secretary He specifically instructed us to control all patients and prevent this flu from causing a large-scale outbreak in society. But now, it seems the situation is much more dangerous than we thought. Experts have just studied the virus and found it can be transmitted through droplets, with a high infection and onset rate. It’s entirely different from the flu viruses we’ve known before, and there’s no cure yet. I’m worried that what Secretary He feared might indeed co true.
Now, during the Spring Festival, it’s inevitable that people will visit relatives, and so of them ate their New Year’s Eve dinner at restaurants. We can’t even begin to estimate how many people have been exposed, and I worry that so might not recognize the danger and continue visiting relatives, the consequences of which are unimaginable."
After Liu Wenqing finished speaking, Chu Feng started to frown deeply. If things developed as Liu Wenqing described, the situation would indeed be dire.
Chu Feng had taken He Jianguo’s pulse a short while ago and, apart from using Spiritual Energy, couldn’t think of any other imdiate way to save He Jianguo.
But Chu Feng could only save one He Jianguo; what about the others?
"Can’t we inform everyone through television?" asked Chu Feng.
Liu Wenqing replied, "With Secretary He incapacitated, we cannot make that decision. We’ve reported to the Provincial Committee, and they are now in a eting to discuss what to do. We can’t act rashly. After all, it’s the Spring Festival, and if this matter is not handled properly, it could lead to greater turmoil."
Chu Feng said, "Secretary Liu, would you step out for a mont? I need to make a phone call."
Chu Feng felt that the situation was out of the ordinary and decided to inform Huang Lan, asking Dragon Soul to employ its advanced scientific research to find a solution.
After the call connected, Chu Feng updated Huang Lan on the situation in East River.
Huang Lan took it seriously upon hearing the details and imdiately reported the situation to the higher-ups of Dragon Soul.
"Chu Feng, do you have a blood test report at hand? Take a photo and send it to us. Dr. Robert thinks that these symptoms resemble a kind of gene virus he studied years ago," Huang Lan called back five minutes later, relaying to Chu Feng.
