I'm currently on a bus heading towards a certain high school.
Advanced Developnt High School.
Located in Tokyo, established by the Japanese governnt, it's a school with an almost 100% advancent rate. Students are cut off from external communication for three years, prohibited from leaving the school grounds, and live in dormitories. However, the campus exceeds 600,000 square ters and is said to be like a town, providing a comfortable living environnt without any inconvenience.
This high school is dedicated to nurturing talent that will support the future, attracting outstanding individuals.
However, I have doubts about this school. Rather, the story seems too good to be true. If the advancent rate really is 100%, then everything is decided the mont you enter this school. Would the Japanese governnt really go so far as to create such a sweet deal?
Well, I guess I'll find out soon enough.
Feeling the air inside the rattling bus, I lowered my gaze back to the novel I was reading.
Lost in the novel and forgetting about ti, I heard the sound signaling our arrival at the school as I sat on the bus. Stepping off the bus and standing in front of the school gate, I couldn't help but feel slightly dumbfounded by the sowhat oversized school building visible even from outside. I had heard stories, but seeing it in person was different.
"Hey."
Lost in thought, I heard a voice nearby.
"You were staring at on the bus. What's the deal?"
Turning to look, I saw a long-haired beauty with black hair talking to a guy with sleepy-looking brown hair. For a mont, I wondered if she was talking about , but it was clear from their interaction that she wasn't.
As I pondered this, the brown-haired guy spoke up.
"Ah, sorry. You seed like you weren't going to give up your seat like . I guess you don't want to get involved in that kind of thing."
It seed there had been so incident on a different bus than mine.
"Don't lump in with you. I didn't give up my seat out of principle."
Isn't that even worse? It seed the brown-haired guy might be thinking the sa thing.
"If you have no business with , then fine."
Saying that, the black-haired girl turned and headed into the school grounds.
Left behind, the brown-haired guy, perhaps interpreting things in his own way, followed after her, just like the black-haired girl. I had just t the brown-haired guy, but I had a feeling we could get along. I didn't know why...
....
After the entrance ceremony concluded, I headed to the bulletin board where the class assignnts were posted, expecting to see a large crowd gathered around it. As I tried to get closer to confirm my own class, I was inevitably pushed back. So this is the rough and tumble of society, I thought incorrectly, resigned to waiting towards the back while reading my novel.
While engrossed in my book, I felt soone pull at my school uniform sleeve a couple of tis from behind. Turning around, I saw a beautiful girl with silvery hair and a fluffy aura emitting negative ions.
"What book are you reading?" she asked suddenly.
I was a bit startled by the abrupt question but answered carefully so as not to stumble, "This? It's a mystery novel."
"Do you like books too?" she inquired further.
"Yeah, books are interesting. Reading is one of my hobbies," I replied.
Upon hearing my answer, she smiled genuinely happy. Wow, she's dazzling!
"Really? I'm glad to hear that. I'm Hiyori Shiina. Nice to et you," she said.
"I'm Hachiman Hikigaya. I'm glad to et soone who likes books too," I responded.
"Yes! Nice to et you, Hikigaya-kun," Hiyori replied cheerfully.
Feeling a bit pleased to have made friends with such a beautiful girl so soon after starting school, we talked about books with Hiyori until the crowd around us thinned out.
As we continued talking about books, the crowd finally thinned out enough for Hiyori and to check our class assignnt together.
"...C Class."
"Hikigaya-kun, are you in C Class too?"
"Yeah, Hiyori, you too?"
"Yes! I'm so glad we're in the sa class!"
As she said that, Hiyori directed a cloudless smile at . Why does she seem to emit negative ions so effortlessly...
"I-I see. Shall we head to class for now?"
"Yes!"
Captivated by Hiyori's smile, I managed to keep the conversation going despite feeling a bit flustered, and we slowly made our way towards our class while resuming our discussion about novels.
Upon arriving at Class C, it was indeed as expected of a national school— the classroom was immaculate, almost like new. There was a whiteboard up front displaying the seating arrangent, and as I checked it, I found myself seated by the window on the left side. Hiyori seed to be seated on the right side near the door.
"Looks like we're not close by, Hikigaya-kun..."
Hiyori seed disappointed that our seats were far apart, and I sensed it was urgent to do sothing about it.
"Hey Hiyori, how about we go to the library today? I'd like to explore and find so interesting books..."
Thinking she must be quite a bookworm, I brought up the topic of the library, which I was genuinely interested in. As soon as I suggested it, Hiyori looked surprised at first but gradually ward up with a gentle smile.
"Yes! Please let join you!"
With Hiyori's enthusiastic response, I bid her farewell and headed towards my seat. A few minutes passed as I observed the class while looking out the window, and I noticed sothing.
This class... they're quick to adapt.
Just monts ago, everyone seed tense and didn't talk much, but gradually, almost everyone in the class was engaged in conversation. Reflecting on it, if I hadn't t Hiyori and ended up in this class alone, I'd probably be on the path to a lonely high school life. It was fortunate to end up in the sa class as Hiyori.
As I observed the class, a man with glasses who appeared to be the teacher finally entered.
"Congratulations on your enrollnt, new students. I'm Kazuma Sakagami, your horoom teacher for Class C. Let explain a few things about this school. Firstly, there are no class changes by year here. I will be your horoom teacher for all three years, so please rely on from now on."
Sakagami began distributing what seed like terminals and materials we had received before coming to this school.
"The mobile terminal you just received will also serve as your student ID, so don't lose it. You can use it to access facilities on campus and purchase items at shops. Points earned can be used like cash, so be careful not to overspend."
He paused briefly, his brows furrowing, before continuing.
"And here at this school, there's nothing you can't buy... as long as it's within the school grounds."
That last part felt a bit odd.
"Points will be automatically deposited into your account monthly, with each point equivalent to one yen."
After Mr. Sakagami finished his explanation, the class erupted into a stir. It was like handing a large sum of money to high school students all at once. Truly befitting a school operated by the governnt.
"This school asures students' abilities. You all have the potential to be here. That concludes my explanation. Any questions?"
Amidst the still-excited class, a long-haired guy who looked like a delinquent raised his hand. Wasn't he... Ryuuen?
"Is the evaluation criteria at this school based on individuals or classes?"
"...I can't answer that question. Any other questions?"
At first glance, it seed like an unrelated question, but Ryuuen was smiling eerily.
"...I guess not. Well then, class is dismissed for today."
As Sakagami left the room, the entire class beca quite noisy, discussing their plans for after school. For high school students, 100,000 points was a significant sum. And with it distributed monthly, their excitent was understandable.
"Hikigaya-kun, shall we go now?"
Hiyori approached with a cheerful deanor, prompting to rise from my seat.
"Yeah, let's go."
Thinking back, if I hadn't t Hiyori, I probably wouldn't have been able to make any plans after school...
"Shiina, can I have a mont?"
On our way to the library, I stopped Shiina to talk about what we were about to do.
"Is sothing the matter?"
"I was thinking, would you like to explore the school a bit? There's sothing I want to check out. Can we take a little detour?"
"It's okay, let's go to the library afterwards."
With Shiina's permission, I thanked her and we headed off to explore the school. As expected, we found surveillance caras in places like the gymnasium and classrooms that would likely be used for classes later.
"Could it be... Hikigaya-kun, are you looking for surveillance caras?"
"Yeah, Shiina, you noticed too. This school has a lot of peculiarities."
"I thought so too. This school seems too lax. Probably, next month's allocation of points won't just be 100,000 points."
I was a bit surprised. Shiina was quite sharp. For her to assert that, she might have caught on to how this school operates.
"Well, anyway. Instead of that, let's finish exploring and go to the library!"
Huh? I thought it was quite important... Well, Shiina seems happy, so I'll go along with it. After that, we had a pleasant ti in the library discussing our thoughts on books with Shiina.
"Hey! You guys!"
As we were about to leave after our discussion in the library, soone called out to us from behind. When I turned around, it was Ishizaki from the sa class.
"Yeah, it's Ishizaki, right? In the sa class."
"That's right! I was just about to head ho, but I saw you guys and wanted to say hi! Let's walk ho together!"
Oh... He looks like a delinquent type, but he's actually a really nice guy. A good example of not judging people by appearances.
"Sure, no problem. I'm Hachiman Hikigaya. Nice to et you."
"I'm Hiyori Shiina. Nice to et you too."
"Yeah! Nice to et you, Hikigaya and Shiina!"
I gave a casual greeting while Shiina responded politely, and Ishizaki cheerfully replied. The three of us then walked and chatted as we made our way towards the student dormitory.
After a while, a very large building ca into view ahead of us. This was probably the dormitory where we would be spending our ti.
"Wow, it's huge."
"Wow, it's really big."
"Yeah, it is."
Shiina and Ishizaki comnted on the dormitory as they looked up at it. It's probably the largest dormitory you'll find anywhere other than at this school.
Inside the dormitory, everything was neatly arranged, with designated rooms for each person. It seed like the girls' rooms were on the upper floors and the boys' were on the lower floors.
"It seems I'm on the upper floor, so I'll excuse myself for today."
"Sure, let's go to the library again soti."
"Yes!"
As we were having this conversation, I felt a sowhat awkward glance from Ishizaki.
"You two dating or what? Jealous!"
Uh oh... What's Ishizaki saying? If this leads to sothing weird with Shiina... I need to say sothing to Shiina. But before I could, Shiina hurriedly blushed and ran off.
It might be over. I should tell Ishizaki we're not dating and hope nothing changes with Shiina tomorrow. With those thoughts, I headed towards my own room.
.....
When I entered my room, it was neatly arranged with a bed and a desk. These were the bare essentials for a student.
I placed my belongings down haphazardly and lay back on the bed, closing my eyes.
Reflecting on today, it was full of new experiences.
I'm looking forward to what might happen in my student life from now on. It's starting to feel a bit exciting.
