"Who likes her?" Pei Liyan said, annoyed, unable to help himself from cursing, "Get lost."
"Fine! You don’t like her, but there’s no need to swear at people!" He Zheng chuckled, "If this is really a case of love turned to hate, only the person who tied the bell can untie it!"
"She’s not smart!" Pei Liyan took a deep drag of his cigarette and said, "And now she’s trying to threaten ."
"That really is going too far," He Zheng sighed, "By the way, was that group of phone numbers hers?"
Pei Liyan changed the subject. "Let’s not talk about the past," he said.
Seeing Pei Liyan’s response, He Zheng was taken aback, knowing there were so things that shouldn’t be brought up, because they were off-limits.
He nodded and said, "It’s just such a sha about Qiao Xiang suddenly acting like this, given that she’s a girl we both watched grow up."
Pei Liyan frowned, "If you’re so concerned, why not marry her? Take her as your wife and we’ll be brothers-in-law."
"Oh co on," He Zheng replied, making a face as if he was choked by the suggestion, "Even if you have no feelings for her, there’s no need to involve . Besides, there’s Yichen!"
Pei Liyan scoffed, "I think you’re even more anxious than Yichen."
He Zheng said, "Yichen isn’t here. If he were, I dare say he would fight to the death to stop us!"
Pei Liyan didn’t speak because he knew He Zheng was right.
Fu Yichen probably loved Qiao Xiang to the death.
At that mont, Lu Heming called, "President Pei, we’re at the police station. Mr. Fu Yichen has arrived, pulled so strings, and is speaking on Miss Qiao’s behalf; they want to take Miss Qiao away without even taking her statent."
"When did he get here?" Pei Liyan asked in a deep voice.
"He just arrived," Lu Heming said, "Judging by his deanor, he must have received a call from Miss Qiao in the morning and rushed over. At the hospital, Miss Qiao made two phone calls, one to Elder Qiao and one to Mr. Fu Yichen."
"Just let the law take its course," Pei Liyan said in a deep voice, "I just want the truth."
Lu Heming was taken aback, since the truth was almost out, with the three kidnappers having spilled the details, but Qiao Xiang was denying it.
Lu Heming hesitated and then said, "What if the police yield to Mr. Fu’s influence?"
"Then you tell the officer in charge of this case that we will file a complaint against him," Pei Liyan said.
"Understood!" said Lu Heming.
After the call, He Zheng couldn’t hold back a snigger, "You’re actually going to file a complaint, you’re really sothing. Yichen is going to be heartbroken over this."
"Did you grow up with Qiao Xiang?" Pei Liyan asked sternly, "You seem to be terribly sentintal too, why don’t you go keep her company?"
"I didn’t offend you, did I?" He Zheng said, a bit speechless, "How can you say that to ?"
Pei Liyan just gave him a cold look, "Think what you want!"
He stood up and walked away.
He Zheng got up and followed him, "Hey, what am I supposed to think?"
It was only later that it occurred to him to say, Pei Liyan likes Qiao Xiang, and yet he got such a reaction from him, suggesting He Zheng go keep Qiao Xiang company.
He hadn’t said anything wrong. For those several years, both the Pei Family and the Qiao Family had been trying to match them together.
Catching up with hurried steps, He Zheng saw Pei Liyan’s brooding face, put his arm around Pei Liyan’s shoulders in a aningful way, and smiled deeply, "You’re afraid that my words will cause a misunderstanding with Qiao Rui, aren’t you? Tell the truth, have you really fallen for Qiao Rui?"
Pei Liyan’s eyes deepened, tilted his head to glance at He Zheng’s hand on his shoulder, "Get your paw off ."
He Zheng was so startled that he imdiately let go.
At that mont, Pei Liyan’s phone vibrated with a new ssage.
It was a ssage from Fu Yichen: Brother Pei, I’m begging you this ti, please show rcy and let Qiao Xiang off the hook, will you?
Seeing the ssage, Pei Liyan, already a bit irritated, felt even more annoyed.
He handed the phone to He Zheng.
He Zheng looked at it and frowned too, "Yichen knows he’s asking too much, that’s why he didn’t dare to call and instead sent you a ssage!"
Pei Liyan’s lips curled into a sneer, "You go reply to him!"
"?" He Zheng was taken aback. "Alright, I know you don’t want this brother to suffer, I’ll make the trip myself."
Pei Liyan said gravely, "Take He Lan with you!"
He Zheng was startled, then imdiately understood, Pei Liyan wanted He Lan to shut Fu Yichen up.
"Got it!"
When Pei Liyan and He Zheng found He Lan, they discovered that Qiao Rui wasn’t there, only Si Ran and He Lan.
Pei Liyan frowned instantly, "Where’s Qiao Rui?"
"She went to the restroom!" said He Lan.
Pei Liyan turned and walked back. "Si Ran, you go with He Zheng and He Lan to the police station to assist He Zheng in dealing with Qiao Xiang’s matter."
Si Ran was taken aback but imdiately responded, "Yes!"
When Pei Liyan found Qiao Rui, she was on the phone, inside the hotel suite.
Naturally, Huang Ying had also inford Qiao Rui about Fu Yichen’s arrival in Liancheng.
"It’s okay, let her make a fuss." Qiao Rui said, "I also want to see what kind of waves she can stir up."
Just then, Pei Liyan entered the room and heard this remark.
His eyes narrowed, and he silently approached.
Qiao Rui just happened to turn her head back, t his half-narrowed eyes, and startled, said into the phone, "I have to go, hanging up now!"
She hung up the phone and asked Pei Liyan, "Why did you co up?"
Pei Liyan walked up to her, lowered his gaze to Qiao Rui’s side profile, his brows knitted together, "Who were you calling?"
Qiao Rui’s heart skipped a beat, but her face remained calm as she replied, "A friend."
Pei Liyan’s eyes were cool and piercing as he glanced at her. "Didn’t you say you were going to the toilet? How co you ended up making a phone call?"
"Just along the way." Qiao Rui knew this guy was suspicious of her, and she tried to calm herself. She walked over and nestled into his arms, giggling, "Why did you co up to find ? Don’t tell you missed after not seeing for a mont."
Pei Liyan, unfazed by her deliberate provocation, replied with his usual handso composure, "Indeed, I missed you. I thought you were tired, but it seems you still have the energy to make calls and take a stroll."
Qiao Rui was taken aback, then chuckled, "I still have that bit of energy."
She looked up to et the man’s sharp gaze.
Neither of them spoke.
Qiao Rui said, "Alright, stop looking at like that, I was just asking a friend to check on my elder sister’s situation."
Pei Liyan’s gaze remained on her face, and upon hearing this, he simply arched an eyebrow. His expression remained calm, seemingly not too curious.
But Qiao Rui knew he was very perceptive.
If she didn’t show so sincerity, he was likely to investigate further.
That wouldn’t be good for anyone.
She looked at him for a while, then lifted her red lips and smiled, "Alright, I admit it, I got a bit angry!"
"Angry?" Pei Liyan furrowed his eyebrows, his gaze still fixed on her.
"Jealous!" Qiao Rui pouted her red lips, snuggling into his embrace and said, "My elder sister always wants to get close to you. Seeing her act so provocatively, I got angry, so when she goes after , naturally, I have to strike back!"
Pei Liyan was startled, "You an, you’re jealous because of ?"
"If I were jealous over another man, would you allow it?"
"Don’t even think about it!" The man huffed softly and lowered his head to whisper in Qiao Rui’s ear, "Do you want to offer yourself to to shut up?"
Qiao Rui tiptoed, and her red lips sealed his.
