Eve was stunned by what she had just heard.
Returning to your root.
That sentence was like a death sentence for her because her root was that of a whore’s daughter.
’Does that an she wants to be a hooker just like her?!’
At first, Eve didn’t want to entertain the idea that her mother wanted her to be a sex worker.
But knowing Julia, it wasn’t entirely impossible.
After all, Eve ran away from ho because she didn’t want to get involved with her mother’s work. She wanted to have a good life, a better one than having to numb her feelings and stay in the brothel forever.
"How could a mother say that to her own daughter..." Eve muttered. The idea sent a chill down her spine, and it only made her want to struggle even harder than before, knowing that her mother might want to drag her back to hell.
’I can’t just stand still and do nothing. I have to talk with Alex about this,’ Eve thought as she quickly called Alex’s phone, and it didn’t take long for the call to connect.
—
"Yes, Sweetheart?" Alex asked in a relaxed, and sowhat lazy tone. He was probably lounging in his study right now since he said he had no plans until next week.
And from his tone, Eve also guessed that Alex didn’t know about the news, at least not yet.
Thus, she decided to drop the bomb imdiately.
"Check the latest news on any social dia you have."
"Hm? What’s the sudden fuss? Is there sothing important there?"
"Yes... Pierre had leaked one of my most important projects," Eve revealed.
...
There was a long silence after she dropped the bomb. She assud that Alex was checking his socials, and just as she expected, the mont he returned to the phone, his tone beca severe.
"I’ll deal with this bastard imdiately, and about the leaked docunt, I’ll pay whatever the amount of the compensation. Damn, that wimp really took off guard," Alex chuckled mirthlessly. "It’s been a while since things aren’t going my way. So, I’ll be busy until tomorrow, Eve."
Eve certainly didn’t want Alex to pay for the damage, since she knew how expensive that could be, especially with a lawsuit involved.
"I’ll try to do damage control and negotiate with them in thirty minutes," Eve said. "Maybe I can minimize the amount you have to pay."
"No need to distress yourself, Eve. It’s my responsibility, after all," Alex’s voice softened for a second before he ended the call.
Beep.
—
Eve took a deep breath after she called Alex.
She didn’t expect calling him would be so reassuring. Now that Alex was already in motion, she felt a lot calr and ready to face whatever storm was in front of her.
’This takes back...’ Eve thought as she rembered how she’d always cried in front of Alex when they dated. It would make her feel at ease after a good cry in his embrace, and all the problems she had magically got lighter.
Eve scoffed, "Of course, he must’ve dealt with my problems behind my back."
Eve got up from her chair and said, "So, the least I could do is not to burden him too much. I’ll find a way to sort this problem out without having to pay for the damage."
With that, Evelyn walked out of her office, all proud and mighty, and walked to the eting room, knowing that she would have to face the representative.
Andrea walked into the eting room with her client, the representative of Honor, a popular electronic company whose line of products consisted mostly of electronic devices such as phones and laptops.
He was a middle-aged man whose face was already red with anger. She knew it would be a difficult battle, but she rembered how Alex quickly worked to fix this problem, so the least she could do was not to be a burden.
She got up and offered a handshake, "Good afternoon, Mr. Trust. I’m Evelyn Carpenter, the CEO of Red Lass Agency."
William Trust, the representative of Honor, looked down at her. He shook her hand firmly, but imdiately asked the head-splitting question, "What are you going to do to compensate us, Miss Carpenter? I assu that you can pay for ALL the damage that you’ve caused by leaking our upcoming product line-up."
Eve’s lips twitched. It hadn’t been a minute ever since they t, and this man already asked for compensation. She knew it was a trick to pressure her, so she replied calmly;
"I’ll explain the problem, Sir. Please take a seat."
William Trust sat facing Evelyn. He crossed his arms as he waited for her explanation while throwing her a deathly glare.
He had t with this woman a few tis regarding the incoming ads for the product. Evelyn was truly gorgeous, so he didn’t mind coming back and forth to discuss the ad.
But not today.
Not even her beauty could get her out of this ss, and he had steeled his resolve to demand financial compensation.
"There has been a mistake on our part, Sir. An employee stole our docunts and leaked them online. I know it’s my oversight, so I am ready to compensate," Eve started.
"Glad to hear that you’re sensible, Miss Carpenter. I’ve talked with the higher-ups about this, and they all want financial compensation unless you can sohow erase everyone’s mory about the leaked information," William said.
"I obviously have no way to do that, Sir. It has been leaked all over the internet. But I know of a way to compensate for the damage."
"By paying the right amount we demand," William stated firmly.
"Rather than that, I prefer to offer my honest work, Sir. I am willing to not be paid for this advertisent project we are working on, and I am willing to work for the advertisent the following year without getting paid as well. I’m sure that you wouldn’t mind free labor, right?"
