Alex watched as his beloved walked towards her room. He had a kind smile when Eve turned around to look at him for the last ti. He said, "Go and rest, Eve. I’ll cook sothing for dinner, alright?"

"Mm, thanks," Eve nodded before she entered her room.

The mont the door was closed, all of those kind smiles and warmth disappeared in an instant. He looked at Josh—his childhood friend and also informant, with his cold, blue eyes like Josh was nothing but an insignificant insect.

"Never stare at my woman like that again," Alex threatened. "You are my good friend, but this will be my last warning."

He shook his head slightly and looked up to his best friend. He wanted to ask more about that woman just now but decided to refrain himself.

Josh was trying to recover from the whole situation. He had shivers down his spine when Alex stared at him like this because he knew how cruel Alex could be when he was angry.

Surely, Josh didn’t want to be the one suffering from Alex’s wrath, so he tried to ease the tension.

"Sorry, sorry, I was just surprised when I saw her just now," Josh said. "Is that Evelyn? The one?"

Alex nodded.

Josh knew that Alex was deeply in love with a woman nad Evelyn. But Alex never showed his best friend her picture, nor did Josh ever et Evelyn in person... until now.

"I didn’t know you could look so kind and gentle in front of her. Does she know that you’re an actual monster?" Josh asked. Their bickering sounded scary, but it was because their nature of friendship had changed. They weren’t two innocent kids playing with a sandcastle right now, and Alex had developed a twisted personality as he grew older.

"She doesn’t need to know," Alex replied coldly. He assud that Josh was staring at Evelyn with that longing gaze because he found her beautiful. After all, Alex had chased her for the whole university years and spent five years kicking other n from approaching her. "And you don’t need to see her. Stay in my office when you’re here to report anything."

Josh sighed. There was an entanglent in his heart about Evelyn. Sothing didn’t feel right when their eyes t. Deep down in his heart, Eve felt familiar to him in an unknown way, even if they had never t before.

And he was sure that Evelyn also felt the sa because their gaze was locked for a while.

Josh was very curious about Evelyn but dared not to inquire more in front of Alex. He too, wanted to keep his head and neck attached for the ti being.

Hence, he cleared his throat and said, "Got it, Boss. Damn, you’re so scary right now, I almost peed myself!"

Alex would usually entertain the bickering. He’d laugh, or at least chuckle at Josh’s banter.

But not now.

Not when Josh was looking at his beloved as if she was the long-lost treasure that he needed to hold close to his heart.

"Co with . We’ll talk in my study," Alex said as he turned around and walked to his study.

Josh followed him from behind, but he stole a glance at Eve’s bedroom door.

Still, even if it was just five seconds, he felt that he had seen the woman he yearned for a long ti.

’I have to find a way to talk to her later. I know Alex won’t let , but...’ Josh wasn’t soone who would want to go against his boss’ order, especially when you have a ruthless boss like Alex who looked generous, kind, and sweet in front of his beloved, but beca an absolute cold-blooded dictator to his subordinates. But seeing Evelyn made him feel sothing as if he finally found the treasure he lost long ago. ’I have a feeling that Eve and I are connected... sohow...’

Alex and Josh entered the study room.

Alex sat on his usual seat. He looked high and mighty, and he resembled his father so much when he didn’t smile at all.

This was the real Alex that Josh and all of his subordinates and family knew in real life. He might’ve been able to fool everyone in movies about his gentlemanly aura, but Josh had experienced how scary Alex could be to achieve his goals.

He wouldn’t be able to survive the Langford family if he didn’t know what to do since he was young.

Alex took a deep breath to calm down. He knew that he was being unreasonable since it was nothing but a five-second stare between Josh and Eve.

But Eve had never seen any man except for him for more than a second unless it was for work. He couldn’t help but feel wary.

After all, Alex was not the number one in her heart anymore, not after they broke up, at least. So he had to kick any possibility of Eve finding another man other than him.

Josh had been observing Alex’s expression for a while, and said straight to the point, "Boss, I brought the information you need. I’m not sure you’d like to hear it, though."

"Tell , then. Who told Roger and Pierre Dust that Eve and I were dating before?" Alex ordered.

"Obviously, I can’t just ask Roger or Pierre about this. So, I used the mole you planted in their company to gather information. She told that Mr. Roger Dust always has a mysterious woman co and visit him at least once a month, and Pierre would always be there whenever she cos for a visit," Josh disclosed. "Since Pierre is always involved, the information that mysterious woman shares must’ve been personal."

"It might be my uncle’s new girlfriend since my aunt passed away ten years ago," Alex comnted with no interest. "You’re giving useless information, Josh."

"Well, I just don’t like talking to you about the identity of this woman," Josh sighed. "But since you want to hear it, then..."
