Julia returned to Pierre’s side with the news, and Pierre was looking at her with a slight fear since she could be the agent of death that his father sent to kill him.

"Good news, your father is in a better mood now," Julia reported.

"R-really? How did you do that? I thought he was going to cook !"

"It’s not difficult as long as you provide him with another plan," Julia smiled. "Though, I want to ask you sothing."

"What is it?"

Julia looked at her surroundings. Everyone was still busy with their discussion on how to get rid of Evelyn or her baby. Nobody paid attention to them, and nobody asked Pierre about Julia, despite them walking in together with such a huge age gap.

"I wonder why nobody is questioning you about my presence? They treat us like air," Julia asked.

"Uhm, well, because Alex ignored , so they ignored as well," Pierre replied. "Everyone in here is like his little minions. They will follow Alex and his opinion on anything since he is functionally the new patriarch."

"So, he is that powerful, huh?" Julia chuckled. "Well, it worked in our favor, since nobody questions my relationship with Eve, or else, they would hound instead."

Julia glanced at Pierre and said, "You should talk to your father after this event. Don’t worry, he won’t hurt you. But he wants to tell you sothing about our new plan."

"New plan?" Pierre tilted his head. "I-I thought there won’t be any plan after this. My father is powerful, but he is just like the rest of the family. We’re all afraid that Alex will turn against us and ruin our businesses."

"Oh, trust , there are thousands of ways to make sure that handso young man will listen," Julia said. "And there are thousands of ways to get rid of my daughter."

Eve maintained her thin smile and her strut as she tried to match Alex’s pace. They seed to be unable to find the right pace, because Alex’s legs were long, and so was his step. If he tried to slow down by taking small steps, it would only make him look funny.

Eve had no choice but to take two steps for every step he took.

She maintained this pace for a while until she thought they were far from the main hall. She looked over her shoulder and saw the door where they left was already far.

She took a deep breath as a relief and then smacked Alex’s arm as hard as she could. But for Alex, it felt like a tickle instead.

He glanced at Eve with a thin smile, "What is it, love?"

"What were you thinking?! Claiming that I’m already pregnant with your child, and you make it sound like we’re going to get married soon!"

"Hey, I don’t reject the idea," Alex teased. "It sounds good, no?"

"You—! Ugh, scoundrel! Jerk! Bad boy! Evil!!" Eve kept hitting Alex’s arm and chest as those were in her proximity, but Alex didn’t feel pain at all. Instead, he snickered as he found her to be very cute. So she ard up by hitting his chest with her clutch. "Evil! Evil!’

"Hahahaha! Okay, okay, calm down," Alex couldn’t hold back his laughter. It had been a long ti since he saw his beloved to be this cute. He almost couldn’t resist kissing her right now, but it would only make her angrier.

It took a while until Eve cald down, but she still glared at Alex with anger and grievance in her eyes. For Alex, the way she stared at him was like a small bunny trying her best to look intimidating. He pinched her cheek and said, "Don’t get so worked up, alright? All I did was within my grasp."

"What do you an within your grasp? What would happen once the deal between us ends, and I leave you with our child? Would you tell your family that I just exploded and died or sothing?" Eve asked.

The smile on Alex’s face diminished a bit, but he still maintained his composure, "Naturally, I will handle it when that ti cos. But it’ll take a while, won’t it? So, there is no point in worrying over it now."

"Ugh, I still don’t understand why you need to claim that I am already pregnant with your child. Why can’t you just tell them that I’m just a random girlfriend you find on Tinder, or coffee shop, or at the corner of the street!"

"Because you’re none of those," Alex replied. His smile vanished instantly the mont Eve said that he found her at the random corner of the street. He already knew Eve’s real background and all the information about her family once he set his eyes on her. So, he knew how insecure she could be about the street.

"You are Evelyn Carpenter, a woman I t when we were in university. You are a brilliant woman who beat in that chess competition to get extra cash and enjoy a full scholarship at Stanford. You aced all of your classes and beca a valedictorian with a perfect score. That is the Evelyn I know. You are not just so random girl I found at the corner of the street."

Eve was astonished by how serious he was. His eyes brimd with sincerity as if he was the one who got upset when Evelyn ntioned the street.

Eve felt uncomfortable in her heart, but not in a bad way.

On the contrary, she felt so happy when she heard those words coming out of his mouth, that she was at a loss on how to express her joy.

Not knowing how to react, she muttered, "You don’t need to lie, Alex..."

Alex got irritated when Eve didn’t want to listen. She might not realize it, but Alex knew how much her background affected her perspective.

Thus, he grabbed her arms to make sure she stayed in place and leaned forward to plant a kiss on her lips.
