Dominic Thorne’s words lingered, refusing to be forgotten as they swirled in Sean Murphy’s head like a tornado.
’He wants to kiss ?’ The thought made him extrely uncomfortable. He knew Ronan Jenkins liked him, but he never imagined Dominic would feel that way about him too—the sa way one would feel about a woman. ’Is this what happened to last night? Did I actually start to develop feelings for him?’
After breakfast, Sean Murphy drove Kenneth Yates and Dominic Thorne to the airport. They had been in Francelia for over ten days, and it was ti to go back. There were many matters to handle back ho—and besides, Kenneth had soone special on his mind.
Kenneth smiled out the window the entire ride, which unsettled Sean, who was driving, so much that he nearly crashed into the car in front of them.
Sumr Lancaster’s injury was almost completely healed. She just needed one last follow-up appointnt at the hospital today. After getting off work, she drove to the hospital.
She had a simple CT scan, and the doctor confird her injury was no longer a serious concern and had left no lasting complications. She could finally breathe a sigh of relief. Still, Kenneth had been gone for over ten days. It would be a lie to say she didn’t miss him, but she hesitated to call, worried about bothering him with work. And yet, he hadn’t called her even once.
’Just thinking about it made her angry!’
The two people up ahead looked familiar. Sumr quickened her pace, circling around to get in front of them.
"Audrey? Yvonne? What are you two doing here?"
The two people in front of her were indeed her stepmother, Audrey Adler, and her half-sister, Yvonne Lancaster.
"Ah..." Audrey hastily stuffed the report she was holding into her pocket. "Your father isn’t feeling well. We ca to pick up so dicine for him." As she spoke, she nudged Yvonne.
"Oh, right! Right!" Yvonne didn’t dare to look at Sumr, as if she had a guilty conscience.
"What’s wrong with Dad? If he’s sick, you should bring him to the hospital right away."
"It’s nothing, just one of his old problems..." Audrey gave an awkward laugh. "If there’s nothing else, we’ll head back now." Audrey grabbed Yvonne’s hand and hurriedly dragged her toward the elevator.
In the struggle, the report fluttered to the ground. Sumr bent down to pick it up. The contents made her go pale with shock. ’An abortion report? Patient: Yvonne Lancaster??’ She knew her father doted on Yvonne, but she never imagined her sister was this wild. ’She’s only eighteen!’ ’They must have co to the hospital today behind Gregory Lancaster’s back.’
Audrey didn’t realize the report was missing until she was in the elevator. She frantically searched her pockets but couldn’t find it.
"Mommy, do you think Sumr took it?" Fear filled Yvonne’s eyes. ’If Sumr finds out, she’ll definitely tell Daddy. He’ll kill !’
’Surely not... Did the report fall out just now?’ Audrey recalled the scene. As they were leaving, Sumr had definitely glanced toward the ground a few tis. At the ti, Audrey had thought she was just lost in thought, but now she realized Sumr’s gaze had likely fallen on the report.
"Yvonne, don’t worry. I’ll get that report back. Without proof, your daddy won’t believe a word she says."
"Okay!" Yvonne trembled. ’She must have been possessed to sleep with that man. Who would have thought he’d refuse to take any responsibility afterward, forcing her to get an abortion.’
A vicious expression crossed Audrey’s face. ’I’ve wanted to teach that brat Sumr a lesson for a long ti. It just so happens Kenneth isn’t in the country right now, so she has no one to protect her. How hard could it be to hire a few thugs to rough her up? As long as I pay them enough, no one will ever suspect us!’
