A parade of red Maserati Gran Turismos rolled into view, but Kenneth Yates’s car was undeniably the main attraction.
Sumr followed Kenneth into the event hall. A middle-aged man stood in the center of the room. Though he was middle-aged, his features were sharp and his posture ramrod straight, giving him a youthful air.
"Thorne, wishing you great fortune and a long life," Kenneth said with a smile.
"Haha, Kenneth, you’re here! Thank you. Dominic is over there. Go give him a hand. You know how he is—not great at schmoozing."
"Right. I’ll head over then." Kenneth took Sumr by the hand and they walked away.
"Kenneth, my dad’s over there. I’m going to go say hi," Sumr whispered in his ear.
"Go ahead." In truth, Sumr didn’t want to greet them, but it would have been rude not to.
"Dad. Auntie."
"Sumr, what are you doing here?" Mr. Lancaster was surprised. He had never seen Kenneth bring her to this sort of event. Beside him, Audrey Adler shot her a contemptuous look. "Did you tag along with so corporate executive? A married woman should have more self-respect."
"Unfortunately for you, it’s not what you think. I ca with Kenneth. Is there a problem with that?" Unable to out-argue her, Audrey Adler pinched her husband, silently demanding his support.
"Kenneth is here too? You should go find him," Gregory Lancaster said. Inside, however, he was already scheming. ’It seems Sumr’s relationship with Kenneth Yates has been good lately. I need to have them visit more often so I can convince Kenneth to invest in the Lancaster Group.’
"Okay. Well, Dad, I’ll be going then."
It took Sumr a while to find Kenneth. He had his back to her, chatting with soone. She walked over, her eyes fixed on him.
"Oh, there you are." Kenneth smiled, draping an arm around Sumr’s shoulders.
"Well now, Boss. Who’s this?" Dominic Thorne asked Kenneth, though his eyes were on Sumr. Sumr looked at the man who had spoken. ’Is that him? The upperclassman lody had a crush on back in college?’
"Sumr, this is Dominic," Kenneth said, making the introduction.
"Dominic? You’re Dominic Thorne?" Sumr asked in shock, pointing at him. She slapped her forehead. ’How could I not have realized? His surna is Thorne, and Kenneth calls him Dominic... I should have put it together sooner.’
"Oh? You know ?"
"Oh, no. Kenneth, can I talk to you for a second?" Sumr said, pulling Kenneth aside.
"Sumr, don’t tell you used to have a crush on him." ’How does she know Dominic Thorne’s full na?’ he wondered. ’I’m sure I’ve never ntioned it to her.’
"No. I need to ask you sothing. Did he graduate from Aurelian University?" Sumr asked, her brow furrowed.
"He did."
"Oh..." Sumr murmured, letting go of Kenneth, lost in thought.
"I’ll be right back." Sumr hurried away. ’lody will probably be at a party like this,’ she thought. ’I have to tell her. Even if nothing cos of it, I don’t want her to live with any regrets.’
Caleb Bell was chatting with a friend when he saw Sumr’s figure rush past. Setting down his wine glass, he excused himself with a quick "Pardon ," and chased after her. He didn’t catch up to her until she stopped at the entrance.
"Sumr, what are you doing here? Did you co with your father?"
"Caleb, have you seen lody?"
"No, but she’s probably coming. Maybe she’s still on her way. Why are you looking for her?"
"Good news!" Sumr grinned. Seeing her bright smile, Caleb Bell smiled too.
Sumr lost her footing, her high heel catching on a step, and she nearly tumbled down. With lightning-fast reflexes, Caleb caught her by the waist. Sumr let out a long sigh of relief.
"Oh, thank goodness you were here. That would have been a disaster."
"Could you please be more careful?" Caleb’s gaze was filled with a mixture of reproach and concern.
Sumr stuck her tongue out playfully. "Sorry. I’ll be more careful next ti, I promise."
"There won’t be a next ti!" Caleb said, his expression stern.
