"He’s not protecting at all. He’s just keeping under surveillance at ho," Sumr said, her face flushed with anger. ’Isn’t he just restricting my freedom?’
"You just don’t get it. You’re the CEO’s wife now. It’s inevitable that jealous people will co looking for trouble. This is so much better. Now, no one dares to bother you!"
’Is that so? Ever since Reina West resigned, no one has gossiped about or co looking for trouble. Was he the one who stopped it all behind the scenes? He’s actually done so much for ... He really cares that much, so why has he never told anything?’
After the trade show ended, the company beca increasingly busy. On top of that, Sumr Lancaster had taken a few days off, so her work had piled into a mountain. All the new jewelry pieces needed to be packaged and sent to the market. Although they knew sales wouldn’t be too bad, they still felt a little anxious.
Sumr Lancaster spent the entire morning finishing the work that had accumulated during her days off. She didn’t rest for a single minute or even take a sip of water.
It was getting late. Sumr Lancaster straightened up and stretched, getting ready to go to lunch. The morning’s work had truly exhausted her.
Just as she was about to head out, she ca face-to-face with a legendary figure from within the company. The woman was tall, with crimson lips, exquisite makeup, and an immaculate business suit—everything about her spoke of her ticulous and exceptional nature.
She was Kenneth Yates’s chief executive secretary, Eleanor Grant. Known for her serious deanor, she was even more ticulous when it ca to her work, but she shouldn’t have been on this floor. Legend had it that she was one of Kenneth Yates’s classmates when he studied abroad in Aris. After graduation, she had followed him to the Yates Group to beco his chief secretary. So even said they were originally a couple, which was why Kenneth had brought her into the company. But all of that happened after Thea Shaw left. At that ti, Sumr Lancaster hadn’t married him, so it was perfectly normal for him to have a girlfriend. ’It’s not sothing I have any right to interfere with,’ she understood.
Sumr Lancaster smiled and stepped forward, positioning herself before the other woman with poise and grace.
"Secretary Grant, what brings you to this floor?"
Eleanor Grant smiled. They had only t a few tis and could hardly be called familiar, but her expression seed to widen the distance between them. In Sumr’s mind, Eleanor was being hostile and keeping a considerable distance from her on purpose.
"Director Lancaster, you are the CEO’s wife now, which ans I’m at your service as well. The CEO sent to fetch you. Alright, I’ve delivered the ssage. I’ll be going now. You don’t need to be so guarded around . We’re on the sa team." Eleanor Grant then turned and walked away on her high heels.
Sumr Lancaster stood frozen in place. ’What did she an, "we’re on the sa team"?’ She didn’t understand. ’That woman, Eleanor, obviously has feelings for Kenneth. So why would she say that?’
KNOCK KNOCK
"Co in!"
Sumr Lancaster pushed open the door and walked into the CEO’s office. Kenneth Yates was again wearing those glasses he used to "look cool," which added a touch of scholarly charm to his otherwise cold deanor.
"I wonder what our CEO needs for?"
Kenneth Yates looked up at her, then rose and walked to her side. He raised an eyebrow at her. "Lunch. Did you forget?"
"Oh." Sumr dodged him and went straight to the dining table.
"Hey, what’s with the cold reaction? I thought you’d be happy." Kenneth’s enthusiasm was instantly dashed by her flat "Oh." ’And to think I had all her favorite dishes specially prepared.’
"Oh, I’m thrilled," she said, her tone so flat it was impossible to detect any hint of joy or excitent. It was purely perfunctory. Sumr Lancaster picked up her utensils and began to eat her lunch by herself.
