Chapter 65: THE ISLA’S TRUE NATURE

The day dragged on as work piled up. The remote office and the franchise business had so many demands. We needed to be innovating as a new competitor in the tech industry was erging. I had requested Zeeb to find out how well we could partner with them.
A knock at the door and Anisha walked in to update
on the assets transfer process from Conri Dolf to
as the husband in joint custody.
"Lucian, the process of the asset transfer is almost done. Zeeb checked the land next to the Cinnabar mine and sothing fishy was going on. The Alaska land’s office refused to release the title deed as yet and they are now at loggerheads with our Zeeb. "
"So Conri’s deductions were right. It seems that Alpha Lobo is illegally mining in Conri’s land. "I stated
"We don’t have evidence that he is mining. We need to find the evidence first." Anisha asserted.
"Go to the city planning and licensing office and pretend to be clueless. Apply for the License to mine in Conri’s land. Let us see who objects first," I advised Anisha.
She nodded and left the office. Hours later, I felt Conri push his power into my mind and then the words ca through "How was your day?"
At first, I was startled and then I grinned happily, leaned back on the seat, and closed my eyes. I responded, " It’s good to hear my husband’s voice. "
"You sound tired," He responded.
"I missed your husband. I plan to pick you up later after work so that we can go to the KODA council"
"I miss you too," Conri responded, and the worry in his voice reached my ears.
"Spit it out. What is worrying you, my dear husband?" I pressed on.
"What do you know about Levi Isla?" His question made my eyes snap open.
"Isn’t that Elder Isla’s son who works at the Planning and Licensing Departnt? He is a splendid chap, straightforward and humble. Why do you ask? "
"He ca to see
two hours ago. He is an Everest mate," Conri responded.
"What the fuck?" I yelled out without responding through the mind link.
"What is your concern, husband?" I sent my response through the mind link.
"Everest has reservations about Ralph Isla," Conri stated.
I took my mobile phone and called Conri. He answered on the first ring. " As much as it’s exciting to hear your voice in my mind, there are matters that need a phone call discussion"
He laughed and then urged, "It’s because I am still in the office." From the statent, it ant that Everest, or soone else, was there and it was not a good ti to call.
"I am coming over. Sit tight." I disconnected the call.
"You are too irrational, "Conri’s voice ca through my mind.
"I know. Complint accepted. I am coming over," I arrogantly responded.
I packed my laptop to work later when I got ho since I had a lot of work that had piled up. A knock on my office door startled
and Zeeb walked right in and closed the door.
"You are leaving?" He seed surprised as he watched
close the zipper of my laptop and put away all the files on my desk.
"Yes. I am going to pick up Conri from the construction site. " I responded.
"Then I will talk to you later" He turned to leave and I could hear the resignation and sadness in his voice.
"Have a seat," I commanded him as he was about to touch the doorknob. He stood still and turned around. " It’s fine. This can wait"
"From the knitted brows on your face and the sound of your tired voice, I bet it can’t wait. ’’ I laughed and sat down.
Zeeb dragged his feet and walked over to the chairs across the desk. He sat down with a thud and then stated, "Lucian, your so-called "Little sister" is getting on my nerves. I found her today laughing and batting her eyes at the HR Totem Stone. When I re-approached her about it, she snapped at
and left. "
"You went on too strong, "I laughed.
"She is my mate. How would you feel if Conri flirted with soone else?" Zeeb seethed.
"Okay fine, I know. Did you ask Totem Stone what they were talking about or you just went batshit ntal on Anisha?"
Zeeb remained mute and never said a word.
"It would have been easier to ask Totem, " I advised.
He nodded and stood up to leave. "I acted like a child," He huffed.
"When are you going to mark her?" I pressed on.
"My sister lives with her. She is spending more ti with Tala and rarely glances at ," Zeeb confessed.
"You are her mate. Find ti. Get this over with," I suggested.
"Thank you, Lucian."A small smile played on his lips as he turned to leave.
"Wait, I have a question for you" I stopped him
"What do you know about Ralph Isla? Everest has concerns that he is not fully loyal to Conri"
Sothing flashed in Zeeb’s eyes and he looked away. "I am not sure you want to hear what I’m about to say."
I stood up and waited. Zeeb rubbed the back of his head and then said, "Word in the pack is that Ralph Isla took Conri to the KODA council room since he wanted to test his power and then have him mated to any of his sons. Levi and Keith Isla. But the exile happened, and they labeled Conri a rogue. "
The anger in my body rose, and I muttered through gritted teeth, " Continue"
"You ca into the picture, unfortunately, for him. Rumor is that his top priority is to have Alpha Lobo replaced, but none of the KODA council mbers trust him. Ma does not trust him either, and that says a lot. She feels that he is too conceited and hides behind his calm deanor"
"And where is Keith Isla? I have never t him since I ca back to Alaska "I inquired.
"He is the one in charge of the Ministry of Lands. He seems calm, but he is a powerful wolf and no one sses around with him." Zeeb confird.
"Shit, how much trouble must we keep facing?" I cursed out loud.
"You don’t seem worried about Levi Isla?" Zeeb raised his eyebrows.
"No. He already has a mate and is loyal to Conri," I stated firmly. After what happened in the Planning and Licensing office, Levi had co out as a loyal supporter of Levi.
Zeeb nodded and then gasped, "What is it?" I moved closer to him.
"I rember years back before they recalled you back to Alaska. Keith Isla boasted that he had co ho to the mountains to find Conri. He said that he t him and they had a friendly talk. "Zeeb stated.
"What the fuck? Are you sure?" I muttered as my eyes widened in shock.
"Yes. I rember it well. It was during one of the Annual pack dinners and they even had a standoff with Alpha Lobo about it," Zeeb asserted.
"Say what?" I yelled. What the fuck was going on with the wolves of the golden pack shifter all wanting my mate?
