The wolf paused when he heard those words. He let out a low growl, contemplating his best steps.
"Co with , I’ll take you to the alpha, but be warned, he is not an easy wolf to please. He will protect the pack with his life," the wolf said and began leading the way.
They followed closely behind and made it to the large entrance of the cave. As soon as they walked in, they could see glowing eyes staring at them from the darkness of the cave, piercing into their souls.
"Don’t stare back. The wolves can determine if you are a threat from looking at you and decide to attack for the sake of the pack," the wolf leading said calmly.
"But shouldn’t they receive so sort of punishnt for that?" Aric asked.
"They will. Doesn’t an you will not get wounded, does it?" the wolf asked.
He led them deeper into the cave, where so crystals in the walls of the cave gave a dim light, giving the cave its own unique characteristics.
The deeper they got, the more fierce the eyes that looked at them were. They were no longer hiding their hostility and bloodlust. It was out for all to feel, as if it was a warning for them to be careful.
Suddenly, a wolf leaped out of nowhere. He was as large as the one that was leading them. He stood in front of them, blocking the path.
"Raza, why are those creatures following behind you, and why are you taking them toward the alpha?" the new wolf asked.
"They have business with the alpha, Raze," Raza responded.
Though their nas sounded different, Aric imdiately noticed that they were similar, and the only difference was the a and e.
’Could they be brothers?’ Aric wondered.
"Hmmm, now why would you allow that?" Raze asked, leaning in close on Raza.
"I’m the leader of the pack’s defense. I’ll not take questions from you. The only person I answer to is the alpha," Raza said and continued walking.
"As usual, using your authority to make things go your way," Raze said. He looked at Aric, let out a threatening growl, and walked away.
Aric felt like asking about that wolf, but from the looks of Raza, he wouldn’t want to speak about it.
Raza led them into a final cave—massive, with so crystals casting a diffused light all around. At the center of this cave was a wolf bigger than anything Aric had ever seen.
The wolf was lying down on the ground sleeping, but even then, Aric could tell that he was about two ters tall at least.
Raza imdiately bowed his head to the ground when he got there.
"Raza, who are these that you have brought here and why?" Suddenly a calm female voice sounded inside the cave.
The wolf had not moved or opened its mouth, yet it was able to talk.
"Alpha, they bring so news about the terror. They say they have a way to fight the terror and ensure victory, but they need our help to do that," Raza explained.
"Hmmm? Fight the terror? That’s a bold claim to make. Terrors are not called terrors for the fun of it. They have shown that they possess enough strength to be called terrors.
Do you really think you can win in a battle against a creature like that? Do you think my pack will willingly go with you and throw away their lives?" she asked. She hadn’t moved till now, neither did she open her mouth at all.
"I understand the terrifying nature of the terror, but I also understand that there is a reason that the terror is yet to attack your pack or to attack the Lizardn.
Before, he was also scared to attack the ogres because of their ruler, but after the death of their ruler, he imdiately attacked them," Aric said.
"Hmm? The terror attacked the ogres? I had no idea about this. Raza, why was I not inford about this?" she asked.
"Alpha, I found the situation unimportant to report to you," Raza said, looking down at the ground.
"Not important to ? Do you know what happens if that terror gets his hands on the strength of the ogres? We will not be able to survive much longer," she said. Her voice sounded calm, but the rage inside could be felt by all.
Raza imdiately went straight down, bowing to the ground, apologizing.
"Alpha of the Silver Horned Wolves. I am Razalem, the son of the forr chief of the ogre village. The terror had aid to take out most of the males in the village, take the children and the won.
It was a disastrous situation that we fell into, and so we had to leave. We managed to take away most of our people, and the warriors stayed behind to fight against the terror and hold him back. It was during our fleeing that we t with Master Aric," Razalem explained.
"Master Aric? Are you speaking of the human-elf chira that stands here? Fascinating that a creature like you can even exist and have the resources to house an entire village.
But even then, I can’t risk the lives of my children for the sake of a failed conquest," she said, her voice sounding resolute.
Aric took a deep breath. He thought of multiple ways to make her budge, multiple ways to coerce her into agreeing to co, but he couldn’t co up with sothing—until an idea clicked.
"Fine, I understand what you are saying, but hear out only this once. Let prove to you that I have the ability to carry this battle and ensure that we are victorious against the tyrant that is the terror," he said.
"And how do you plan to do that exactly?" she asked.
Aric drew another deep breath. He understood the risk of what he was about to say, and he might die if he was careless, but he had to do it.
"Duel . Battle as the leader of the pack, and if you lose, you’ll give a chance." As he said those words, her eyes shot open.
