"You're slower than your reputation," Nyssa taunted, her dagger grazing dangerously close to his throat.

"And you talk too much," Zephyr retorted sharply

They separated, circling each other like predators sizing up their prey. Cedric whimpered beneath the table, fear gripping him tightly.

Nyssa tilted her head, a smirk playing on her lips. "Why bother? Your master's already won this round."

Zephyr flicked blood off his dagger with a casual air. "Big brother doesn't send for business; he sends for ssages."

In an instant, her smile vanished.

With a swift motion, Zephyr tossed sothing onto the table, a severed finger adorned with a signet ring that made Cedric's heart race in recognition.

"T-that's Lord Hale's...!" he stamred, panic rising in his chest.

"Tell your Duke," Zephyr replied coolly, "that the next gift will be his spymaster's tongue, unless he wants to et Felix personally."

Nyssa's eyes glinted with an otherworldly light as she retorted, "You overreach, dog."

"No," Zephyr said firmly as he turned to leave. "We're just getting started."

As he lted into the swirling smoke, Nyssa finally noticed the rune carved into the wall behind her, a Morningstar sigil pulsing ominously with latent energy.

BOOOOOM!

The tavern erupted in chaos!

-----------

The Duke's study was a chilling masterpiece of calculated intimidation.

Moonlight poured through the stained glass windows, casting fractured colors across walls lined with forbidden tos and the mounted heads of creatures long thought extinct.

A massive obsidian desk lood in the center, its surface polished to a mirror sheen, reflecting only the faceless silhouette of the man who sat behind it, shrouded in shadow within his high-backed chair.

The only sound was the rhythmic tap-tap-tap of a silver quill against parchnt, echoing like a heartbeat in the oppressive silence.

Then.....

BAM!

The doors swung open with a force that shattered the stillness.

Nyssa staggered in, her hood torn and one arm hanging uselessly at her side.

Blood dripped from a gash above her eyebrow, mingling with sweat and soot on her unnaturally pale skin.

"My lord..." she rasped, collapsing to one knee.

The quill stilled abruptly.

A voice erged from the shadows, smooth as poisoned wine, cold as a grave's embrace. "You disappoint ."

With her head bowed low, Nyssa recounted her failures from the night: The botched restaurant sabotage and the exposed supply chain manipulations and finally Zephyr Morningstar's ssage (she placed Hale's severed finger on the desk)

The Duke's gloved hand reached out, turning over the grueso trophy with an unsettling curiosity. "And what of the rune?"

Nyssa's breath hitched as she replied, "A proximity trigger... The tavern is... gone."

Silence enveloped them like a suffocating shroud.

Then..a deafening

CRACK!

The desk split down the middle as an invisible force slamd into it. Nyssa didn't flinch; instead, her pupils dilated to slits in response to his fury.

"Three years," whispered the Duke, his voice slithering through the room like smoke. "Three years cultivating those petty lords as pawns, and this upstart Morningstar who just arrived in Astheria unravels it all in three weeks?"

A wine glass floated effortlessly from a side table, filling itself with dark liquid as he mused aloud. "Tell , Nyssa... what did you observe about Felix Morningstar's forces?"

Nyssa licked her lips nervously. "His intelligence network is... unprecedented for a businessman. Zephyr's operatives had already compromised Duskbane's household before we moved."

"And his combat assets?" he pressed further.

"The chef at Morningstar Restaurant in Silverpeak district is at least Tier 5," she continued hesitantly. "There's Nixie, she wields wind magic that shouldn't be possible without elven blood! And another nad Brixton has earth magic; Gwendolyn possesses ice magic."

She paused before adding cautiously, "And then there's Trinity, a High-Level Knight with exceptional combat skills. She and Brixton lead the Morningstar Adventurer Team."

The Duke paused mid-sip of his goblet, surprise flickering across his face. "It's astonishing for newcors to Astheria to possess such strength, especially a businessman!"

Suddenly, a parchnt unfurled itself before Nyssa, its ink glowing a faint red.

"Phase Two begins at dawn."

Her eyes widened as she read the ominous instructions:

Abandon the noble puppets (Let Morningstar have his hollow victory) Brought to you by MV6LEMPY6R.

Activate the "Black Sigil" operatives (Sleepers planted in Morningstar businesses months ago)

Secure the "Pale Maiden" (Just hearing that na made Nyssa's hands tremble).

"L-Lord, do you truly want to abandon those nobles?" Nyssa stamred as she regained her composure. Taking a deep breath, she added, "I believe they still hold so value!"

"Hmmm… You make a good point," he mused thoughtfully. "Very well, we'll keep them useful… for now."

The Duke rose from his seat, his figure stretching unnaturally tall as he moved toward the window.

"Felix plays chess," he declared with an enigmatic smile. "But I? I play with fates."

Behind him, the stained glass shifted to reveal a crest unseen in Avalonia for centuries.

Nyssa dropped to her knees, forehead pressed against the cold stone floor. "It will be done."

Inside the Secret Chamber: Midnight at Morningstar Family Estate

Beneath Felix's opulent office lay a hidden chamber that felt worlds apart.

The stone walls were adorned with intricate maps of Astheria, and a massive obsidian table, etched with glowing runes, dominated the space.

The air was thick with the scents of ink, steel, and a faint tang of ozone, evidence of magic recently spent.

At the head of this mysterious table stood Felix, his usual white overcoat replaced by a sleek black ensemble that made him appear more shadow than man.

Leaning against the table was his golden cane, its tip still faintly smoldering from recent spellwork.

Suddenly, the door clicked open.

"You're late," Felix remarked without turning around.

Zephyr slipped inside like a wraith, twin daggers sheathed at his sides.

Blood crusted his knuckles, and a fresh burn marred his left cheekbone as he collapsed into a chair with all the grace of a falling tree.

"Had to ensure my tail was clean. Your little fireworks show drew... attention."

Finally turning to face him, Felix's crimson eyes glead in the dim light. "The Duke's people?"

"Three watchers. Two are currently swimming with the dock district fishes." Zephyr grinned widely, sharp teeth glinting in the gloom. "The third might live... if he regrows his tongue."

Felix poured two glasses of amber liquor and slid one across the table. "Start from the top."

Zephyr downed his drink in one swift motion. "Lady Nyssa is exactly what we thought, a personal knife for the Duke. Not human, not beastkin... sothing much older."

He tapped at the burn on his face. "Her blood burns like acid."

Felix's grip tightened around his glass as he asked quietly, "And what about the Duke?"

"Still a ghost," Zephyr replied thoughtfully before leaning forward conspiratorially. "But she slipped up, called him 'Your Grace' in an ancient tongue. Not Avalonian... not even Imperial."

A heavy silence settled over them as runes on the table pulsed softly in response to their conversation.

Felix exhaled slowly through his nose, "That complicates things."

With deft fingers, Zephyr produced a small velvet pouch and spilled its contents onto the table, a severed finger rolled out, its signet ring gleaming ominously.

"Hale won't be troubling us again," he said coolly. "Made sure his last words were... instructive."

Felix didn't blink as he asked flatly, "And Nyssa?"

"Oh, she got the ssage." Zephyr's grin turned feral as he continued, "Right before I vaporized her favorite hiding hole with a rune trap."

Felix swirled his drink thoughtfully. "Did she survive?"

"Unfortunately."

"Good."
