Luo Ying and Zhao Jie stood stiffly in place, dumbfounded by the absurd scene unfolding before them.
anwhile, the Door Knocking Ghost on the other side of the wall was equally stunned.
“???”
What the hell?! Where’s my door???
The Knock-Knock Ghost began to panic. It reached out with its ghostly hand and patted the wall in disbelief.
After standing there in a daze, it slumped sadly against the cold surface, slowly sliding down to sit on the floor.
I’m the Knock-Knock Ghost, dammit!
No door ant… no knocking. And without knocking, what am I even supposed to do? Am I… laid off?
The humans had promised a stable job at HQ—full benefits, fixed hours, guaranteed Paranormal Coin wages…
But if the door was gone, how am I supposed to claim its paycheck?
The Knock-Knock Ghost fell into a sudden midlife crisis.
Back in the room, Luo Ying stood still with her notebook in hand, frozen for quite so ti.
This was… Bai Wan’s character skill?
He could delete a door? That’s so… ridiculously broken.
As the shock faded, Luo Ying's gaze on Bai Wan grew brighter and brighter.
What a convenient ability.
With soone like this on a paranormal assignnt, she imagined the entire squad would feel insanely safe.
She gave his ability extrely high marks…but then ca a headache of a problem.
This test was ant to evaluate a hunter’s observation and deduction skills. Bai Wan had bypassed the challenge with sheer ability. What were they supposed to do now?
After a mont of thought, Luo Ying cleared her throat and asked, “Can we… run the first test again? But this ti, without using your skills?”
Truthfully, HQ had never considered that anyone might solve the test by deleting the damn door.
“Huh? You an that last run doesn’t count?” Bai Wan asked.
Luo Ying quickly shook her head. “No no—that run is fully recorded, and we’ll award extra points for it. Your ability alone already scored high marks. The second run is just to see your baseline logic and observation skills. Think of it as a supplental assessnt.”
Bai Wan nodded. He didn’t mind repeating the test.
In fact, after reading the paper earlier, he’d already deduced the correct way to pass.
So, he reactivated his skill and restored the door.
…
As the second round began, Bai Wan walked over to the box, picked up the Knock-Knock Ghost’s severed arm, and prepared to hand it back.
Then, sothing unexpected happened.
The sunflower on his shoulder suddenly popped up—now with two cheerful heads, both swaying and grinning.
A system prompt rang in his mind:
[Hybridization material detected: Knock-Knock Ghost Arm. Beginning random hybridization…]
[Ding! Hybrid partner selected: Choy Man. Comncing hybridization: Knock-Knock Ghost Arm Choy Man…]
[Ding! Congratulations, you’ve obtained a new plant: Knock-Knock Ghost Choy Man!]
Whoosh!
The dual-headed sunflower bead happily, and then—a Chinese cabbage materialized out of thin air.
But this wasn’t just any cabbage. One of its arms had grown massive and pale green-purple, radiating an ominous chill.
Bai Wan was baffled.
Then, details about the new plant surfaced in his mind:
[Plant Na: Knock-Knock Ghost Choy Man
Description: A mutated Choy Man hybridized with the severed arm of the Knock-Knock Ghost.
Effect: Left arm (from Knock-Knock Ghost) delivers double damage and applies a curse effect. Can knock on doors, releasing cursing sonic waves.]
…What the hell. A Knock-Knock Choy Man?!
Even Luo Ying and Zhao Jie were stunned.
“????”
What… is this? I can’t even—
One mont there was a dancing sunflower…The next mont—Bam, a cabbage?
And that cabbage—why the hell did it have the Knock-Knock Ghost’s arm?!
Then, before they could process it, things escalated further.
The newly summoned Choy Man scanned the room… locked onto its target… and shot forward like a bullet.
It raised its bulky left arm and—
SMASHED the door with a mighty blow!
BOOM!!
A pulse of cursed sonic energy blasted through the door—straight into the Knock-Knock Ghost outside.
Knock-Knock Ghost: “???”
This was the first ti in its cursed existence that soone had knocked back. Shocked, and now thoroughly enraged, the ghost retaliated with a strong counter-knock:
BAM!
Get your damn leafy ass outta my job!
Cursed energy bursted back through the door. But Choy Man refused to back down.
BAM!
Another fierce strike from its massive left arm.
The opposing cursed waves clashed at the doorway, black mist sparking in the air.
HQ’s special-reinforced door sohow held firm… for now.
Then the battle escalated.
BANG!!
BAM!!
Both sides now fought not for survival—but for knocking supremacy.
The temperature in the room plumted. The knocks ca faster and harder:
BANG-BANG-BANG!
BANG-BANG-BANG!
Cursed soundwaves exploded on contact, sending shockwaves tearing through the room.
The Knock-Knock Ghost was dumbfounded.
Who the hell’s the ghost here?!
Why does the guy inside match in speed and power?!
It was like…watching its left hand fight its right hand!
Luo Ying could only gape.
Has sothing gone horribly wrong?
This was supposed to be a test of deduction against the ghost’s kill pattern…How did it turn into a competitive knock-off?
She and Zhao Jie were now speechless spectators to a legendary brawl: Choy Man vs. Knock-Knock Ghost.
Suddenly, the twin sunflowers on Bai Wan’s shoulder bead brilliantly. Two giant orbs of sunlight shot toward Choy Man.
Apparently, sunlight accumulated much faster in Hunt Mode.
Then—
WHOOSH!
Powered by solar blessings, Choy Man’s gaze sharpened.
Ultimate skill: activated.
WHAM-WHAM-WHAM-WHAM!
Its fists blurred into afterimages. A domain of flying punches hamred the door in a rapid-fire blitz.
ATA-TA-TA-TA—!!
Each strike pulsed with cursed energy.
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!!!
The Knock-Knock Ghost barely had ti to react before it was blasted clean off its feet, flung far into the corner.
THUMP!
And finally—the HQ’s reinforced door reached its limit.
CRACK! Shards of splintered wood scattered across the floor.
Choy Man pulled back its fist with a proud nod, mission complete, and vanished into the ether.
CLATTER.
Luo Ying’s testing pen dropped from her hand.
Zhao Jie rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
Had they just witnessed a Chinese cabbage with ghost powers break down HQ’s specially reinforced door?
Luo Ying stood in the wreckage, her gaze on Bai Wan filled with shock and conflicted awe.
Was that… another of his character skills? That’s way too powerful.
He didn’t just match the Knock-Knock Ghost—he bloody overwheld it.
So this was the legendary rookie who cleared the unsolvable dungeon.
As a veteran evaluator, Luo Ying didn’t even know how to score this anymore.
Worse—she and Zhao Jie now stared at the obliterated HQ door.
That thing wasn’t cheap…
It had been HQ’s official testing door for years.
And now?
Shattered. Gone. Reduced to splinters.
The Knock-Knock Ghost’s arm? Gone too—absorbed by a damn cabbage.
Bai Wan glanced at the two stunned evaluators and coughed lightly. “Uh… sorry. I didn’t an to. The skill triggered on its own. Should we… redo the test?”
Luo Ying forced a smile and said weakly, “…No, that won’t be necessary. Let’s just… move on to Phase Two.”
Redo the test? Are you kidding ?
Forget retesting—there’s no Phase One anymore.
Everything was gone. The door. The ghost. The arm. The entire test design.
“Alright… I was hoping to show off my deduction skills too,” Bai Wan said, a little disappointed.
Seeing him still so eager, Luo Ying was ntally exhausted. She forced herself to stay calm and explained.
“Phase Two evaluates your overall combat capability. You’ll need to solve a few simple math problems while evading pursuit from a Drowned Ghost. It’s… considerably harder than the first test.”
Bai Wan’s eyes widened.
“Wait… a Drowned Ghost? Aren’t those super scary?!”
