I genuinely expressed my gratitude: "Mr. Sinclair, thank you for this ti. And also for the last ti at the construction site, thank you and your assistant."
"Don’t ntion it."
He casually uttered the phrase and asked Ethan Xavier, "Going to your place?"
"Yes!"
"No!"
Ethan and I spoke simultaneously.
Ethan gritted his teeth and said, "Zoe, do you want to take you ho in the middle of the night? Your husband might think we slept together with you looking like this!"
"Can you stop talking nonsense?"
I interrupted Ethan coldly, saying, "I rented a place outside. I already... no longer live with him."
Mr. Sinclair’s keen eyes seed to be clouded with doubt upon hearing my conversation with Ethan.
I guess he didn’t expect Ethan to be so indiscriminate, even daring to think about a married woman.
I didn’t want to walk into the lion’s den with Ethan and go to his place.
Thankfully, Mr. Sinclair was respectful enough to ask for my ho’s address and had the driver turn the car towards my rented apartnt complex.
As we were getting out, Ethan insisted on escorting upstairs, which I refused.
He snorted angrily, "Always confrontational with ! If you have guts, be confrontational with that old lecher too!"
I ignored him, taking off the coat I was wearing, intending to return it to Mr. Sinclair.
But since I drank tonight, Mr. Sinclair’s coat had absorbed my booze sll.
I subconsciously wanted his business card or contact information to return the coat once I had it cleaned.
However, recalling his assistant’s words that many people had their eyes on Mr. Sinclair, I decided against asking for his contact to avoid being disliked.
"Mr. Sinclair, if you don’t mind, I will have this coat dry cleaned and ask Ethan to return it to you on my behalf."
After I spoke, Mr. Sinclair gave a slight nod and said, "No rush."
With that, I bid farewell to them and walked briskly toward the inside of the complex.
After returning, I contemplated reporting David Bowman’s harassnt to the police.
But considering that Ethan beat him up at the hotel today.
If I reported, would this guy Ethan get implicated too?
Overall, I suffered no loss today, and David Bowman gained nothing, so I gave up the idea of reporting.
...
The next day, I arrived at work and headed straight into Victoria Monroe’s office.
Before she could speak, I gave her a harsh slap across the face.
Victoria stared at in shock. Despite our usual confrontations, she refrained from retaliating or shouting, feeling guilty inside.
I glared coldly at her and said, "Well done! I pity you, helped you, and you pushed into the fire pit. Did David Bowman succeed? Did he record the mont of being violated so that Serena would accept you? So that the Sawyer Family would accept the child in your womb?"
After all, Victoria and I no longer have a competitive relationship, nor do we have any deep-seated hatred.
The only explanation is that she followed Serena Sawyer’s instructions and they had so kind of exchange deal.
Victoria’s face slightly changed color, avoiding my gaze nervously, and said, "I don’t know what you’re talking about?"
"Victoria Monroe, you know perfectly well what I’m saying,"
I stated word by word, "Rember, once you’re dragged down by the Sawyer Family, the first one to be thrown out when things fall apart is you!"
At that mont, the door to Victoria Monroe’s office was knocked.
A colleague entered cautiously and said, "Two police officers are here outside, looking for Zoe Ellison."
Never did I expect that I, the victim, wouldn’t report, but David Bowman would report first.
The police showed the investigation order, stating I was suspected of ’intentional injury’ and asked to go with them for questioning.
Victoria probably didn’t expect to get involved with the police either, visibly panicking, and whispered, "Zoe, I’m sorry, I...I didn’t expect..."
I scoffed coldly and asked, "What did you not expect? From the mont you beca Serena Sawyer’s tool, you should have known it would ruin ! Victoria Monroe, I misjudged you!"
With that, I was taken away by the police.
In the interrogation room, the daylight lamp was hot and bright, directly illuminating my face.
Even though I hadn’t done anything wrong, it was nonetheless my first ti being interrogated as a suspect, and saying I wasn’t afraid would be a lie.
The police asked nurous questions, all of which I answered truthfully.
But they said my responses didn’t match David Bowman’s accusations as the ’victim,’ and they needed to further investigate and gather evidence.
I suddenly felt nervous and asked, "How long will I have to stay here?"
The police, adhering to formalities, said, "We’ve notified your husband. If he cos to bail you out, you should be able to leave today."
"Timothy Xavier?"
This na, now buried in my mory, feels almost like it’s dead to .
Regardless, whenever he’s needed, he’s never around.
Notifying him would be more fruitless than notifying the Ellison Family or Jenna Sutton.
But the police said that the spouse is a direct relative, so they must notify the spouse first.
After the interrogation concluded, the police escorted to a single room.
The small room, only a few square ters big, was dark and damp, with the fear of confinent pressing in.
I crouched in the corner, without a phone or internet, as if cut off into a separate world from the outside.
As ti slowly crept by, I felt each second was incredibly long.
I don’t know how much ti had passed when footsteps were finally heard from outside.
The officer opened the door and said, "Zoe Ellison, your family is here to bail you out."
My eyes finally brightened with hope, as I supported my numb knees and stood up.
Timothy Xavier was standing right in the visitation room.
Upon seeing co out, he furrowed his brows and looked up and down, saying, "Let’s go!"
The police showed him considerable respect, saying, "Mr. Xavier, please sign here. Our chief has said that if there are further updates, we will notify you. As for David Bowman, we will certainly punish him severely!"
"Okay."
He picked up a pen, signed his na, and then seized my wrist to lead out.
On the way, Timothy Xavier remained silent, tightly pressing his lips together as though restraining sothing.
I simply couldn’t understand, I am the one wronged, I was the one nearly threatened, what’s there for him to be angry about?
Did he feel that coming to bail out thwarted his ti spent with Serena Sawyer?
It wasn’t until he stuffed into the car and drove off without a word that I anxiously asked, "Where are you taking ?"
"Hospital."
His eyes fixed on the road, his tone was very unfriendly.
I asked in disbelief, "Why are we going to the hospital?"
"David Bowman admitted to violating you, I’m taking you to the hospital to check."
Although his tone was cold and calm, as if speaking about soone else easily.
However, I wasn’t violated, why is David Bowman shouldering the bla?
Could it be under Serena Sawyer’s direction?
Though I don’t know how Serena Sawyer got David Bowman to say these words.
But only making Timothy Xavier believe I’ve been violated and I’m tainted, would make him despise more.
In this outco, the only beneficiary would be Serena Sawyer.
Moreover, what Timothy Xavier cares about is not how much harm and grievance I suffered?
He cares more if Mrs. Xavier remains pure?
I shouted furiously, "Timothy Xavier, stop the car!"
Timothy Xavier showed no reaction, continuing to drive.
I was so furious that I was trembling, and I directly reached for his steering wheel.
Timothy Xavier’s expression changed, and he quickly stopped the car by the roadside.
"Zoe Ellison, have you gone mad?"
He looked at gloomily and said, "Do you know how dangerous that was just now?"
I didn’t want to say anything to him, and there was no need to clarify my innocence with this soon-to-be ex-husband.
I opened the car door to leave.
But he grabbed my wrist and pulled back.
"Why don’t you want to go to the hospital?" His eyes were filled with more suspicion as he asked , "What if you caught so disease, then what?"
I scoffed and said, "What disease would I catch, and what does it have to do with you? Anyway, we are like this now. As if I could infect you!"
"Even now, you still won’t admit it!"
Timothy Xavier’s face was dark, and he said, "I’ve told you a long ti ago, don’t cause trouble, be a good Mrs. Xavier at ho. Now you see, leaving , leaving The Xavier Family, you’re just at on soone else’s chopping board!"
All my grievances seed to surge into my throat, eting his frosted gaze, I said, "But yesterday, you were clearly there. What’s the difference between you being there and not? I asked you to save , did you?"
Timothy Xavier paused, confused, "When did you ask to save you?"
I grew more upset and choked up, "Yes, your mind was on Serena Sawyer, her heart ached, you picked her up and left. Of course... you wouldn’t notice ."
"Yesterday, that was you?"
He seed to recall the cry for help he heard, looking like he just woke up from a dream.
I bent my lips bitterly, "So Timothy Xavier, you have no right to accuse . Even if I’m not clean, you’re one of the culprits!"
After saying that, I opened the door and got out.
This ti, he didn’t stop .
After getting out, I received a call from Katherine Sheldon.
It turned out that Ethan Xavier was also taken by the police, just like , for "intentional injury."
I imdiately hailed a taxi to go to the police station, hoping to testify for Ethan Xavier.
But I didn’t expect, Timothy Xavier’s car actually followed all the way.
When I got off at the police station entrance, he also got out.
"I worked so hard to bail you out, and now you’re back again?" Timothy Xavier said coldly, "To punish , make regret, by going in once more?"
I just found it laughable, "I’m risking myself to make you regret? Are you insane?"
"Then what do you an by this?"
Timothy Xavier blocked my path, not letting go in.
I could only explain to him, "Ethan Xavier hit David Bowman to help yesterday, I need to testify for him!"
Timothy Xavier’s dark eyes squinted, releasing a cold light, "Ethan Xavier?"
"What, is there a problem?"
I retorted, "You won’t save , and won’t let others save ?"
Just then, the churning feeling in my stomach surged again.
I forced myself to endure the urge to dry heave, feeling more anxious.
This month’s cycle hasn’t co yet, could it be...?
Timothy Xavier hadn’t noticed my abnormality and was still confirming with , "Last night, was it Ethan Xavier who saved you?"
I tugged at the corner of my lips, "What, surprised? Your brother you always looked down on is actually more human than you!"
After saying this, I lifted my leg and prepared to enter the police station to ask about Ethan Xavier’s situation.
It’s ti to testify, ti to find a lawyer.
But Timothy Xavier still pulled back, coldly saying, "Co ho with ."
"If Ethan Xavier isn’t released, I won’t go back."
I looked into his cold eyes, my tone was exceptionally firm.
Timothy Xavier nodded, "Fine, co with first. He saved you, I’ll get him out, I promise."
"No way, I must see him released with my own eyes!"
I stood my ground, "You think of a way now!"
Timothy Xavier wasn’t one to be easily threatened, but for so reason today, he really started contacting Xavier Group’s legal departnt, asking them to send lawyers over imdiately.
And I, just stood at the police station entrance waiting.
Timothy Xavier didn’t leave either, returning to sit in the car.
Night quietly descended, the air was cold and moist everywhere.
At so point Timothy Xavier ca out of the car.
The ambergris-scented coat was draped over my shoulders.
I instinctively wanted to take it off and return it to him, but he held down my hand.
"Are you so worried about him?"
His slightly upward tone was tinged with displeasure.
I retorted angrily, "It’s just like your concern for Serena Sawyer. I am indeed very worried!"
He said nothing more, took out a cigarette box from his trouser pocket, and stood a bit further away from .
The lighter’s blue light flickered, his stern side profile shadowed in a piece of darkness, shifting light and shadow.
After waiting for about half an hour, Xavier Group’s lawyer team finally arrived.
Timothy Xavier then contacted people at the police station, and Ethan Xavier was successfully bailed out.
When he ca out, his hands were in his pants pockets, looking indifferent.
Seeing and Timothy Xavier together, he asked in shock, "Zoe Ellison, you silly woman, did you submit to him again just to save ?"
I rolled my eyes at him, "You’re overthinking it!"
Ethan Xavier’s brain, really should go write a romance novel with a love-obsessed plot! He really dares to imagine!
And Timothy Xavier heard his provocation, keeping up appearances, he didn’t engage in a confrontation outside, but held my hand instead, "I’ve done as you asked, now, co ho with ."
I shook off his hand, "Timothy Xavier, that’s your and Serena Sawyer’s ho. My things have already been moved out of that house."
Timothy Xavier lowered his voice, "Can you stop being unreasonable? The promise just now, so quickly forgotten? Who taught you to go back on your word?"
I chuckled, "Learned from you! When you proposed, you promised a grand wedding, did you do it? You said you’d love forever, did you do it? Didn’t you also go back on your word?"
Timothy Xavier was speechless, his adam’s apple seed to be restraining sothing.
I looked at his gloomy appearance and said, "Timothy Xavier, we’re both people who go back on our word. So, it’s even! Goodbye."
Saying this, I went to the roadside to hail a taxi, Ethan Xavier quickly followed.
He could have sat in the front seat, but he insisted on sitting beside , smiling like a goof.
"Zoe Ellison, not bad! I thought Timothy Xavier would beckon, and you’d go back again!"
Expressionless, I retorted, "Am I that cheap?"
Ethan Xavier tested, "Hired a lawyer for the divorce? Timothy Xavier isn’t easy to deal with, be careful! Don’t let him sche you into a clean exit without a penny, not even leaving your underpants."
"No need to worry, I’ve already hired a lawyer."
I glared at him, moved towards the car door, not wanting to be close to him.
But Ethan Xavier leaned closer again, asking, "Which lawyer did you find? Reliable? If not, I can help you. The one who saved you yesterday is a real powerhouse in the legal world! If I approach him, he’ll surely give so face."
I didn’t expect that he was a lawyer.
Just, back on the way from the construction site, didn’t he refuse to cooperate with Xavier Group?
Seems, he’s not just a lawyer.
Ethan Xavier nudged with his elbow, asking, "Really usable? If he handles your divorce case, Timothy Xavier won’t have any advantage!"
I sighed, "Forget it, I can’t afford to repay that favor."
Ethan Xavier chuckled, his tone turned slightly ambiguous, "No need for you to repay, I will! You just need to follow well, I promise to be better than Timothy Xavier."
