I smiled and countered, "Is working on your own that disgraceful? Aren’t you working independently too?"

Victoria Monroe was briefly taken aback by my response, then said to , "Zoe Ellison, don’t forget, you’re still in your probationary period. I’m your supervisor and have the authority to decide whether you stay or go."

I nodded, saying, "I rember. I’ll work hard. Is there anything else you need to do, Director Monroe?"

Victoria probably only found out today that I’m working here, so she couldn’t think of a way to ss with imdiately, and just sent away for the ti being.

Sitting back at my desk, my heart was a bit uneasy.

After all, my direct supervisor is an old college rival with whom I’ve never gotten along well. This job doesn’t look easy at all.

Just then, I got a WeChat ssage from Jenna Sutton.

"Is Timothy Xavier’s daughter an idiot or sothing!" She sent a laughing-crying emoji and said, "I went to her class today on purpose, and the teacher says after using the restroom she can’t even pull up her pants."

I replied, "With Timothy Xavier’s intelligence, he shouldn’t have given birth to soone weak-minded."

Jenna Sutton said, "Maybe the mistress lowered the overall IQ? That girl is ridiculously dumb and has a terrible attitude. On her first day, she knocked down another child. Now, none of the kids want to play with her."

I know Jenna Sutton sends these ssages partly to vent and partly out of personal bias and prejudice.

Even though I don’t like Serena Sawyer and her daughter, I still replied, "Don’t make things difficult for her; I don’t want to take my anger out on a child."

I dared not keep chatting with Jenna Sutton, worried Victoria Monroe would see and punish .

I spent the whole day getting familiar with work tasks. Victoria Monroe deliberately chose after work hours for to complete a news article draft that needs to be sent out tomorrow.

With no choice, I had to work overti.

Until ten at night.

I finally finished the article and sent it to Victoria Monroe’s email.

When I got ho, the villa was brightly lit.

Doris was crying breathlessly, apparently because she wet her pants at kindergarten today and was being laughed at by her classmates.

The little girl cried, "I don’t want to go to kindergarten anymore! I never want to go again! No one wants to play with !"

Timothy Xavier had already found two maids to accompany Doris tomorrow, serving her closely.

It wasn’t really my concern, so I didn’t plan to stop as I passed the living room.

Until I heard Serena Sawyer say to Timothy Xavier, "Obviously the kindergarten teacher isn’t being responsible and is bullying our Doris. If this continues, won’t Doris develop psychological issues?"

Just as she finished speaking, Timothy Xavier called out to , "Zoe Ellison, co over here."

I knew that if I didn’t go over, he would start picking on Jenna Sutton next.

I turned back, coldly asking, "What do you want?"

Timothy Xavier’s long, narrow eyes carried a glint of scrutiny as he said, "Where have you been all day today?"

I was almost amused by anger; did he really think I spent the day hiding in a corner of the kindergarten, plotting with Jenna Sutton or instructing her how to treat his precious daughter?

I paused slightly, countering, "Where I went, does it have anything to do with your daughter wetting her pants today?"

"I’m warning you, don’t even think about doing anything to Doris. Otherwise, I’ll make your Ellison Family pay."

His deep-set eyes fixed tightly on , his words colder than ice.

Oh, The Ellison Family.

When he was young, he always ca to The Ellison Family to play with my brother, spending sumrs at our place.

Mrs. Ellison and Mr. Ellison treated him as an honored guest, offering him the best food, drink, and entertainnt first.

But now, because his daughter wet her pants and got laughed at, and because of her bad temper getting isolated, he wants our Ellison Family to pay!

He can actually say such things.

Clenching my fists, my voice still trembled with anger, and I said word by word, "If I were you, I’d reflect on whether I’ve spoiled my child into a fool. If you want her to be a princess, then don’t send her to kindergarten. No one in this society will indulge her!"

Working overti this late had already exhausted , after showering I just wanted to sleep early.

But at night, I was sleepless again.

In the early morning, I logged onto the novel site’s backend, continuing to update my book.

I initially only wrote it for myself, but unexpectedly, there were actually a few readers urging to update.

.....

The next day.

I arrived at work, and Victoria Monroe unexpectedly said sothing decent.

"I read the draft you sent to my email yesterday; it was good."

She had a semi-smile as she said, "Who knew you had so talent? Your professional skills haven’t been neglected over these years."

I smiled slightly, saying, "You flatter ."

I thought Victoria Monroe couldn’t find fault and should retreat, allowing to work more comfortably.

But as evening neared quitting ti, she suddenly walked over to my desk and said, "Can you do a favor and pick up a friend?"

I frowned and said, "Is this work-related? If not, then you should pick up your friend yourself."

After speaking, I picked up my bag, ready to leave.

She stopped , saying, "Actually, I could go pick her up myself, but we have a client to entertain at our news departnt tonight."

I still didn’t want to go, so I retorted, "Then why don’t you just call a car for your friend?"

Victoria Monroe said seriously, "Her identity is sensitive; she can’t be exposed to unfamiliar people. Zoe Ellison, I’m trusting you to go. If you don’t want to go, then you can substitute for at the client dinner, and I’ll go pick her up."

I’m not adept at socializing over dinner, besides, she has the power to decide whether I pass my probation.

In the end, I agreed to her request.

Before leaving, she gave a set of numbers and told to give her my license plate number, as she needed to send it to that friend.

Just like that, after work, I headed towards a scenic area in Veridia.

When I arrived at the entrance, it was crowded, and I wasn’t sure what important figures were inside.

Before I could react, the car door suddenly opened, and a few bodyguards ushered two people inside.

"Mr. Xavier, Miss Sawyer, it’s this car."

The bodyguard checked the license plate number, confirming I was the one to pick them up.

I couldn’t believe it; Victoria Monroe asked to pick up Serena Sawyer and Timothy Xavier.

I didn’t know which one of them was her friend?

As far as I know, Victoria Monroe ca from a modest background during university, so she shouldn’t have connections with this circle.

Serena Sawyer and Timothy Xavier got in the car and looked surprised to see .

Outside my car, there was a crowd of Serena Sawyer’s die-hard fans, incessantly knocking on the car door as if they wanted to consu us.

Timothy Xavier frowned and asked, "Why is it you?"

I said expressionlessly, "That’s what I wanted to ask too. If I’d known it was you, I wouldn’t have co. President Xavier, if you don’t want to ride in my car, you can take her and leave now."
