Chapter 113: Conversation gone awry

"Daddy?"

Knoa’s voice pulled his father’s wandering mind back to the present.

Azrael dejectedly responded, "Then, what else do you want? Do you want toys? If I give you toys, will you let

kiss you too? I want to bite those chubby cheeks. I wonder if they are tasty."

Knoa gasped. He looked up at Knoa, horrified. His small mouth was half opened, displaying disbelief at what he heard. His cute expression was clear enough for Azrael and Knox to understand quickly.

The poor child was afraid that Azrael was a kid-eating monster just like one of the horror stories his Uncle Shun often tells him whenever he was misbehaving.

Witnessing the corner of Knoa’s eyes twitching and lips curving downward ready to break into tears, Knox imdiately erased the idea and ruffled his head, "Daddy is just joking," he showed his face on the screen and glared at Azrael.

He turned to Knoa again and softly spoke to him, "He just ant that he missed you so much he wanted to kiss you many tis as well. So...if you et him again, will you give him lots of hugs and kisses too, just like how you do to

and Uncle Shun?"

Knoa looked back at the phone. Azrael’s face was like a puppy who got scolded by his owner, he fluttered his eyes at Knoa, shalessly begging for his affection.

Seeing the older guy’s disheartened look, Knoa felt a bit guilty. He bobbed his head repeatedly and murmured, "Okay. I’ll kiss Daddy a lot. I’ll hug him too, Papa. I’ll also pinch his cheeks and pull his hair like I do with Uncle Athan!"

Azrael, "..."

Knox covered half of his face, but his shoulders shook from suppressing his laughter. He disappeared from the screen, which dismayed Azrael.

His lips protruded like a teapot as he asked Knoa again, "So, what else do you want? I told you I’m rich, right? I’m richer than your bas—than your Uncle Athan. I can buy you anything, so just tell ."

Knox appeared behind Knoa again, giving Azrael a warning look.

Knoa bead, "Yes! I want sothing like Loki!"

Azrael nodded, "Oh, you want a dog. Then, let’s buy one. My house is as big as that mansion. I can arrange one of the rooms as a doghouse, or maybe build a two-story for him. You can walk him on the entire neighborhood without bumping into soone since I owned most of it—

Knox rolled his eyes at Azrael and cut him off, "Stop bragging. He doesn’t understand that yet."

Azrael retorted, "He looks smart, so I know he could easily understand if we just explained it to him."

Azrael’s words have a deeper aning, which Knox was aware of. He sighed and slowly nodded. He caressed Knoa’s back and gave the alpha a reassuring look. He mouthed, "Let

explain it to him later."

Knoa turned to his father, wondering what he ant. Knox just smiled at him and pointed his lips at the screen, "Go and talk to him."

He moved to the bathroom and washed his face. It was already late in the morning. Knoa must have eaten breakfast already. And since no one ca up to deliver his al, it ant that he was allowed to walk around the house again.

His room confinent was lifted after he reassured his father that he won’t seek Azrael again. That thod made Knox think he was so noble lady who angered the lord with her misconduct and was then punished with solitary confinent.

He shrugged his shoulders and walked out.

Knoa was happily chatting with his alpha father. Knox would have ignored them if only the next sentence Azrael spoke of didn’t rile him up so much that his feet and hands moved before he knew it.

Azrael, "You can take care of it once you live with ."

Knoa was in awe, "I’m living with you?! When—ah!"

With trembling knees and a pounding chest, Knox slumped on the bed, the phone pressed on the bed blocking the cara. He frantically ordered, "I’m sorry, Knoa. Can you tell Uncle Shun to get

dicine? Papa’s head is throbbing."

Knoa expressed concern. He quickly touched his father’s forehead and worriedly asked, "Papa...are you sick?"

"Just a headache, baby," Knox answered, taking the child’s hand into his cheeks. "Can you go now?"

Knoa jumped from the bed and shouted, "I’ll be back!"

"Don’t run!" Knox even made sure to remind him, before he turned over the phone and saw Azrael’s confused face.

Azrael, "What was that? Are you sick? What happened?"

Knox huffed, "We have to talk—

Azrael hissed, "About what? You’re thinking of not living with , are you? How long do you plan to keep this hide-and-seek, Knox Arden? I’m warning you now. I won’t let you go. You and Knoa are mine. I’ll bring you ho—

"It’s too soon to live together!" Knox exclaid. "We both have issues to solve first. Let’s not talk about moving—

Azrael interrupted him, "What issues? Isn’t it settled already? I won’t feel safe if both of you aren’t with ! So, pack your things, I’ll pick you up."

Knox’s voice trembled as he spoke, "I-I can’t go. I won’t go."

He clenched the sheets hard his nails could rip them. He bit his lower lip to restrain himself from sobbing and shouting. However, Azrael did so with a voice laced with frustration, impatience, and anger.

"Knox Arden!"

There wasn’t any restraint on that shout. Knox cringed, knowing that he truly angered the man.

"Knoa will live with . And if you don’t want him to be separated from you, you must co with him," Azrael emphasized every word, drilling each to Knox’s head.

But instead of fear, Knox felt like he was being ordered and threatened. So, he couldn’t help but respond with an accusing voice, "How could you say that after what your father did?"

The silence that answered him had never been so deafening before. Knox gasped after realizing what he said. He tried to form words, but what ca out was the feelings he had buried at the back of his head that rainy day, "I...I’m scared...Azrael. I don’t—

From the other line, Azrael grabbed his face and bowed his head. His face darkened. Luis was alard seeing him in that state. He watched Azrael’s back, and for so reason, that image of his boss’ troubled look and slumped back looked vulnerable in his eyes.

’What’s happening?’ Luis anxiously pondered.

Azrael interjected Knox’s words again, "I’m sorry you have to experience that. I’m so sorry I was late. You must have been so terrified. I’m sorry that my father walked away free from this. I’ll do everything to drag him back to court. I’ll make sure he’ll pay what he did to you—

Knox could hear the fear in Azrael’s voice. Is he afraid that he will disappear on him again? Knox wondered. He needed to clear the misunderstanding.
